Chapter 1997: Whose Child Is It? (Part 3)
"Really, there’s no need." Zhuang Xuejun ultimately refused.
Xia Weibao was extremely uneasy and kept her until nine in the evening, yet still couldn’t convince her.
Zhuang Xuejun has a good temperament, seeming agreeable, but she’s actually more stubborn than anyone.
Once she decides on something, she’ll never change.
Her personality is calm, with a kind of wisdom that sees through worldly affairs. Because of this, she has great insight and never changes due to external matters.
In the end, with no other choice, she could only have the driver take her back home.
Lu Hualiang had already come home from work. He was very displeased that his wife had a friend and left her husband aside.
Sitting on the couch in the room with a stern face, he watched time tick by, angrily swearing to ignore her for a few days and not let her get away with this.
However, when he saw Xia Weibao slowly coming up holding her belly, after two hours of anger and swearing, Director Lu immediately stood up and quickly went to meet her.
"Why are you coming up by yourself? Why not have someone help you? You’re pregnant; you should be more careful."
With that worried look, he’d completely forgotten about being angry just a moment ago.
Xia Weibao rolled her eyes, "I’m only five months along, why so fragile?"
Lu Hualiang helped her sit on the couch and then knelt down to massage her legs.
"Just because it’s five months doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be careful. You’re going to be a mother soon; can’t you be a bit more mindful?"
Xia Weibao said nothing, blankly staring at the man kneeling before her, so thoughtful.
She thought of Zhuang Xuejun again — she was pregnant and had a husband and so many people taking care of her, while Zhuang Xuejun was all alone.
Just thinking about it made her heart ache.
Noticing her low spirits, Lu Hualiang became anxious, "What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
"No, I just suddenly feel very emotional and realize how happy I am."
Lu Hualiang chuckled, "Isn’t happiness a good thing?"
"But Xuejun isn’t happy." Xia Weibao recounted the situation.
It’s too pitiful; she felt Zhuang Xuejun was the best woman in the world, naturally serene, intelligent, and wise.
If she were born in ancient times, she would definitely be the virtuous wife that many prestigious families would fight over.
Such a good person, how could she end up with a jerk?
She should marry a man who treasures her, then have a son and a daughter, living blissfully.
After hearing this, Lu Hualiang asked, "Should I look into who that man is?"
He didn’t have much sympathy for Zhuang Xuejun, as they weren’t familiar, her well-being didn’t affect him.
But it wasn’t right for his wife to worry.
Xia Weibao almost nodded.
But then she remembered Xuejun’s words that if she investigated, they’d break off their friendship, so she hesitated.
"Forget it, don’t look into it for now, she’s not even three months along, I don’t want her to get upset."
We’ll think about it after some time.
"Oh, and husband, could you have Housekeeper Fu send a portion of what I’m eating every day to Xuejun? I’m afraid she won’t take care of herself and might eat something she shouldn’t."
Lu Hualiang finished massaging one leg, stood to the other side, knelt down with one knee, and supported one foot.
Then lifted Xia Weibao’s foot onto his thigh and gently pressed it, repeating the same actions daily without any hint of impatience.
Even though she wasn’t swollen yet, the massage felt comfortable and was a good practice in advance.
"If you’re that worried, why not have Housekeeper Fu arrange for someone to take care of her?"
To spare her the worry.
"I would like to, but Xuejun’s temperament doesn’t like strangers in her home at all."
