Chapter 183
"All right, that’s enough gaming for today. I’m exhausted. I don’t want to play anymore."
He shook his head wearily.
[Vex_Uncharted: Already? I’m not done watching.]
[jasss22: That comeback was ridiculous.]
[ballooon: RAIN TEAM! INVINCIBLE!]
[Rayan_Alzahrani_4430: I’ve decided. I’m building one too.]
"Rain teams are good. Everyone should play rain."
Mike leisurely stroked Glameow in his arms while reading the messages.
"Especially if you have access to the true ruler of rain, His Majesty Swampert. If you can use Mega Evolution and your Mega Pokémon happens to be our mighty Lord Swampert, then you can absolutely try the advanced version of the rain team."
Then Mike added with complete seriousness, "And if your Mega Pokémon is Mega Charizard Y, you can also try playing rain."
The chat immediately revolted.
[Yopleasee: ???]
[Arche0n: I think I’ll stick to the normal version. As if Mega Evolution is something I can casually use. Key Stones and Mega Stones are already ridiculously rare, and getting that level of bond with your Pokémon is hard enough...]
[Gilgamesh_Of_Uruk: What are you even talking about?]
[Ivan_C_4233: CHARIZARD Y HAS DROUGHT. WHAT KIND OF RAIN TEAM ARE YOU BUILDING WITH THAT?!]
Mike raised one hand.
"Relax. I’m talking about the advanced version of the advanced version. Mixing sun and rain can work pretty well in doubles. Charizard, Venusaur, Pelipper, Archaludon—there are plenty of interesting possibilities."
He showed his teeth in a shameless grin.
"Of course, this is only a suggestion. As everyone knows, I am merely an ordinary, completely unremarkable photographer."
...
Sitting on Wyrdeer’s back in the Mount Coronet range, Cynthia heard that declaration and shook her head.
She put her phone away and dismounted.
Her heels sank into the snow as she approached Wyrdeer and gently stroked one of its antlers.
"Are you still able to handle the climate here?"
Wyrdeer answered with a soft call.
Cynthia smiled.
"Good. Then go ahead."
Wyrdeer nodded and turned toward its herd.
Cynthia watched it leave.
Beside one of the female Wyrdeer was a young Stantler, and Cynthia smiled as she lifted one hand in greeting.
The young Stantler immediately hid behind its mother.
Cynthia withdrew her hand, slipped it into her coat pocket, and climbed onto Garchomp’s back.
"Let’s go, Garchomp. Back to work."
Garchomp launched into the sky and disappeared almost instantly, leaving only a white streak behind.
...
In Galar, Raihan glanced toward Leon.
"Well? What do you think?"
Leon considered the question.
"He has very strong battle sense. The real question is how well that translates into an actual battle."
Sonia spoke quietly from nearby.
"If he’s that good in the game, shouldn’t he be pretty good in real battles too?"
Leon and Raihan exchanged a look before both of them laughed.
Actual Pokémon battles were far more complicated than a turn-based game, and they moved much faster.
A single exposed weakness could be seized upon immediately, especially by powerful Trainers who excelled at recognizing tiny openings and turning them into relentless pressure.
At the highest level, most Trainers already knew the same broad categories of tactics.
What usually decided the battle was the Trainer’s ability to react in real time, recognize opportunities, and seize them before the opponent did.
On screen, Mike continued explaining different rain-team structures to his viewers, though most of his advice remained aimed at beginner and intermediate Trainers.
For people at that level, the immediate goal wasn’t becoming Champion. It was successfully challenging eight Gyms, collecting the required Badges, and earning a place at the regional League Conference.
After discussing several more options, Mike finally checked the time.
"All right, it’s almost lunchtime, so that’s where we’ll end today’s stream."
He clapped his hands together and smiled toward the camera.
[nightblade_0236: Nooo...]
[Daisy_Peralta_1218: At least let us see Gengar and the others for a while. Who knows how long it’ll be before we see them again...]
"What do you mean, ’how long’? I upload videos of Gengar and the others all the time."
Mike sounded genuinely offended.
[Threener: Your last video focused on them was the one in the flower fields. That was two weeks ago.]
Mike froze.
"What?! Seriously? It feels like I uploaded that a few days ago."
He picked up his phone and checked.
It really had been two weeks.
Mike scratched his head.
"Damn. When you don’t have school and don’t have a job, you really lose all sense of time."
[Students: ...]
[Office Workers: ...]
Mike coughed.
"All right, fine. To make up for my terrible behavior, I’ll bring Gengar and the others over so everyone can chat with them for a while."
The moment Gengar heard that he was allowed to interact with the viewers, he hurried over and sat beside Mike with a huge grin.
Then he looked directly into the camera and gave it a wink.
[Dini_Jimenez: Oh no... Have I seriously been single for so long that Gengar winking at me suddenly looks kind of charming?]
Mike read the message.
His expression turned to horror.
Slowly, he looked toward Gengar.
Gengar couldn’t read the chat, so he merely stared at all the scrolling messages, scratched his backside, and looked confused.
"Gar?"
[What are they saying?]
Mike hesitated.
Then he leaned close and whispered a few words into Gengar’s ear.
Gengar’s eyes widened in terror.
He immediately scrambled backward on his short legs and surrendered his position beside Mike to Snivy.
Then he stood behind Mike with both hands firmly covering his backside, trembling.
Mike looked directly into the camera.
"A person should have standards. Thank you."
[AshlesSmiley: HAHAHAHA, YOU TERRIFIED GENGAR.]
[Mat_tokki {Verified Gardevoir Enjoyer}: Of all Pokémon, you chose Gengar?!]
[Genie_Unshackled: BIG SIS SNIVY IS SO CUTE~]
"Thank you. I also think Snivy is adorable."
Mike gently rubbed Snivy’s head.
"And she isn’t just cute. She’s incredibly gentle too, aren’t you, Big Sis Snivy?"
"Sni~"
[Troll3r: AAAAAAH! BASTARD! TAKE YOUR HANDS OFF MY BIG SIS SNIVY!]
"Your Big Sis Snivy?"
Mike looked down at Snivy with amusement.
"Someone in chat says they want to steal you away. What do you think?"
Snivy didn’t answer verbally.
She simply extended a Vine Whip and wrapped it gently around Mike’s wrist.
"Sni~"
Mike looked back at the camera and shrugged.
"What a shame. Apparently she doesn’t want to go with any of you."
[...]
Mike’s grin widened as he moved on.
"And then there’s our Princess Glameow. Look at her now. Isn’t she much fluffier than when we first met?"
He lifted Glameow and brought her closer to the camera so everyone could get a better look.
Glameow stared curiously at the lens, reached out with one paw to tap it, then leaned forward and tried biting it.
[NihilNeko: TOO CUTE. I’M DEAD.]
[Akabara: Are you sure she’s only ’a little fluffier’?]
Mike immediately pulled Glameow back into his arms.
"Glameow, remember this. This Akabara guy is a terrible person. If you ever meet him, don’t acknowledge him."
[Akabara: ???]
Glameow hissed threateningly at the camera.
Another comment soon caught Mike’s attention.
[Mimikyu_DCX: Beedrill looks incredible. I saw his Pokémon Contest performance too. I’m seriously thinking about raising a Beedrill now.]
Mike read the comment aloud for Beedrill.
Beedrill lowered himself toward the camera and lightly raised one of his stingers in acknowledgment.
Mike had to admit that Beedrill really did look cool.
Then Juice Bro suddenly asked something else.
[Juice Bro: By the way, I don’t think I’ve seen that little soup dumpling before. Did you catch a new Pokémon?]
Mike blinked.
"Soup dumpling? Who? What soup dumpling?"
He looked around in complete confusion.
When had he caught a soup dumpling?
[Juice Bro: That one. The little pale one.]
Mike slowly turned toward Hatenna, who was lying on the blanket.
He pointed at her.
"You mean... Hatenna?"
Then he looked back at the chat in disbelief.
"How did you look at Hatenna and somehow arrive at ’soup dumpling’?"
[Professor Purple: ...]
[IDontWantOvertime: ...]
[Mad Silence: ...]
[Everyone Else: ...]
"Haten?"
Hatenna looked toward Mike with innocent curiosity.
[What are they saying? What’s a soup dumpling?]
"It’s nothing."
Mike immediately translated the situation into something safer.
"They said you’re soft, sweet, and adorable, kind of like a little bun."
"Haten~"
Hatenna happily called toward the camera to thank them.
[Professor Purple: AKABARA, COME OUT AND FIGHT ME! HOW COULD YOU CALL SOMETHING THIS CUTE A SOUP DUMPLING?!]
[Akabara: ???]
[Akabara: IT WASN’T ME! IT WAS JUICE—]
[Juice Bro: Ahem...]
[HatennaRoyalGuard: JUICE BRO, COME OUT AND FIGHT ME!]
Mike laughed as he watched the entire chat turn on Juice Bro for insulting Hatenna.
His fans actually seemed pretty friendly when he thought about it.
Then again, many of his videos were educational and relatively slow-paced.
Someone who genuinely disliked calm Pokémon content probably wouldn’t stick around long enough to become part of the regular audience in the first place.
Still...
Mike looked at Hatenna.
Did she really resemble a soup dumpling?
Damn Juice Bro!
Mike reached over and gently pinched Hatenna’s little tail.
"Hatenna, remember this. If you ever meet someone called Juice Bro, stay away from him. He’s a bad guy."
"Haten?"
"Just trust me."
"Haten~"
[Juice Bro: ...]
Another message appeared.
[Gholdengo Is Number One: So is Hatenna your newly caught Pokémon?]
"No. She’s a friend of two Pokémon I know. I’m staying with those friends at the moment."
Mike called Nidoking and Nidoran♀ over.
"See? These are my friends, Nidoking and Nidoran♀, and this is their child."
He carefully showed the Pokémon Egg to the camera.
[Sir_Yabas_III: Your friends are Pokémon?]
"Of course. I came to Eterna Forest specifically because I wanted to see how they were doing."
Mike stayed with the audience for a while longer, chatting casually and letting them watch the Pokémon.
Eventually, he checked the time again.
"All right, it really is getting late now. I have to make lunch for everyone."
He smiled and raised a hand toward the camera.
"That’s it for today. I’ll see you all next time."
Before anyone could protest again, Mike decisively ended the livestream.
He immediately collapsed backward onto the blanket and let out a long breath.
"God, that was exhausting..."
Elsewhere, the moment Mike’s livestream ended, the beaches that had only just begun calming down were once again flooded with Trainers.
