Chapter 85
The next day, Mike arrived at the school with heavy bags beneath his eyes.
Natsuko jumped when she saw how exhausted he looked.
"Teacher Mike, are you all right?" she asked worriedly.
Mike shook his head. "I’m fine. Come on. It’s time for the outdoor lesson."
Natsuko nodded, then left Jubilife City with Mike and the students as they headed into the wilderness.
...
Meanwhile, in the fan group—
[Crazy Silence: Mike uploaded a video?]
[Purple Scholar: It looks like a movie. I haven’t watched it yet.]
[ZenZen00: Bro came back as a film director?]
[Inksorcerer: The thumbnail has Gengar wearing a cape. I’m already interested!]
[Gholdengo Is Number One: Apparently it’s an action movie. Has Mike ever mentioned making movies before?]
[Mister_M: No idea. Why did you suddenly decide to make an action movie?! @Mike]
[Genie_Unshackled: Don’t question it. Just accept Director Gengar and move on!]
[Daisy_Peralta_1218: I’m only five seconds in, and the dramatic music is already killing me.]
[I Really Don’t Want Overtime: I’m watching it now. It’s actually pretty interesting.]
After sending that message, Lucian switched off his phone and continued watching the projection on the wall with Flint and Aaron.
Mike’s narration began.
"Mew is a Mythical Pokémon believed to possess the genetic traits of every known Pokémon. Not only can it transform into almost any species, but it can also master nearly every recorded move."
"Because of this, a legend has circulated throughout the criminal underworld for years. Before disappearing, Mew supposedly left behind a single strand of fur."
"Anyone who obtained it would supposedly gain part of Mew’s power, allowing them to change their appearance, imitate other Pokémon, and instantly master countless combat techniques."
"The rumor drew the attention of intelligence agencies, mercenary groups, criminal syndicates, and powerful organizations across the world."
"Every one of them wanted Mew’s fur."
"That introduction is actually pretty good," Aaron admitted as he sat cross-legged on the couch.
Lucian said nothing and continued watching the projection.
"One report claimed that Mew’s fur had been hidden inside the Gengar family estate."
"The information eventually reached Severance, a covert organization that publicly claimed to preserve world peace while secretly carrying out assassinations, theft, blackmail, and countless other illegal operations."
The scene changed.
Outside a large estate, Glameow nimbly leaped onto the surrounding wall, sat down, and calmly licked her paw.
Snivy wrapped Vine Whip around a tree in the courtyard and swung herself over the wall, landing steadily on one of its branches.
Quilladin stood before the iron gate, pulled back one fist, and smashed it open before swaggering inside.
Beedrill followed behind them, flying silently into the courtyard with a cold expression.
An elderly Gengar appeared and pointed at the intruders.
"Who are you? What do you want?"
Lucian’s eyebrow twitched when he heard the aged voice.
’Voice acting?’
Another Gengar floated beside the elderly one. Holding a thin bamboo staff, he watched Beedrill and the others warily.
"Two Gengar?" Aaron asked in surprise. "I thought Mike only had one. Where did the other one come from?"
Lucian remained silent.
He seemed to have realized something, and his brows furrowed slightly.
Beedrill swept his gaze over the two Gengar before speaking coldly.
"Where is Mew’s fur? Hand it over, and I may let you live."
His voice was chilling, and his crimson eyes regarded the two Gengar as though they were already dead.
"You’ll never have it," the elderly Gengar replied without hesitation.
Beedrill’s entire presence changed.
"Fine. I’ll kill both of you and search the estate myself."
The moment he finished speaking, Glameow attacked.
Dark energy gathered around her claws as she lunged at Gengar with Shadow Claw.
Gengar pulled his father backward, formed a Shadow Ball in one hand, and slammed it against the incoming claw.
An explosion rang out.
Glameow was knocked backward.
She flipped several times in midair before landing steadily on a tree branch, then tilted her head and studied Gengar curiously.
"My, you’re stronger than you look."
A smooth, seductive female voice came from the screen.
Flint’s mouth fell open as he scratched his enormous afro.
"Did Mike voice her too? Can a man really sound like that?"
"A skilled voice actor can imitate many different voices," Lucian explained. "Unless someone else helped him, Mike may be surprisingly talented at voice acting."
Aaron played with the strand of hair sticking up from his head.
"I have to admit, I’m enjoying this."
Lucian told them to be quiet and continued watching.
Gengar wielded his thin bamboo staff while fighting Glameow and Quilladin at the same time.
His unusual close-quarters combat style forced both of them steadily backward.
Meanwhile, Snivy attacked the elderly Gengar directly.
The older Gengar was clearly experienced, but age had taken its toll.
After fending off Snivy’s unpredictable Vine Whip attacks for a while, he finally exposed an opening.
The vines wrapped tightly around his body.
Beedrill darted forward, and one of his long stingers pierced straight through him.
"Father!"
Gengar turned and saw his father hanging helplessly from the tree.
He roared in fury, swung his bamboo staff wildly, and knocked Glameow and Quilladin away before rushing toward him.
Beedrill intercepted him halfway.
His stingers struck again and again, forcing Gengar to defend with the bamboo staff.
Beedrill’s attacks were sharp and unbelievably fast. Before long, Gengar’s body was covered in wounds.
At last, Beedrill found an opening.
One stinger knocked the bamboo staff from Gengar’s hand, while the other drove into his chest.
Gengar bit down on the packet of ketchup hidden inside his mouth.
Thick "blood" spilled between his lips. His bamboo staff fell from his hand, and he dropped from the air before crashing heavily onto the ground.
The scene changed.
Snivy climbed the stairs and carefully searched every room inside the estate.
Using Vine Whip, she swung herself onto the roof and discovered a small bottle hidden beneath a loose tile.
She wrapped a vine around it and brought it closer.
Inside was a single strand of fine pink fur.
Snivy prepared to bring it to Beedrill, but then hesitated.
Her eyes remained fixed on the bottle before she finally concealed it against her body and returned to the courtyard.
"Did you find it?" Beedrill asked while wiping his stingers.
"No."
Snivy’s voice was calm and cold.
Beedrill stared at her without speaking.
Snivy didn’t retreat, she met his suspicious gaze directly.
"Another false lead."
Beedrill finally turned and began flying out of the courtyard.
"You... Stop right there!"
Gengar lifted his head and hurled his bamboo staff at Beedrill.
The surprise attack struck him and knocked him unsteadily to the ground.
Snivy immediately lashed out with Vine Whip and sent Gengar flying.
She withdrew her vines, moved to Beedrill’s side, and helped him back up.
Beedrill spat out the packet of ketchup in his mouth and issued an order.
"From now on, monitor every intelligence channel and underground rumor. We must recover that fur."
Glameow, Quilladin, and the others answered together.
"Understood."
Beedrill dragged his wounded body out of the courtyard.
Glameow exchanged a glance with Quilladin before speaking.
Still sitting on the tree and licking one paw, she said, "As expected of the boss’s favorite operative. You claimed you found nothing, and he didn’t even search you."
Snivy looked at her.
"Would you like to search me yourself?"
Her eyes narrowed.
"You’re welcome to try."
Glameow clicked her tongue, turned around, and leaped out of the courtyard.
Quilladin followed her.
Snivy swung away with Vine Whip and continued alone down the road.
As she passed an arched bridge, she saw Gengar standing ahead, covered in wounds and tightly clutching his bamboo staff.
"Here for revenge?" Snivy asked coldly.
Gengar stared at her with deep hatred.
Without answering, he raised his staff and charged.
The bamboo staff and vines collided repeatedly in midair.
Already badly wounded, Gengar was knocked through the air again and again by Snivy’s vines before one of them pierced straight through his chest.
Gengar grabbed the vine with one hand and glared at her.
Snivy coldly withdrew it, sending him tumbling from the bridge.
He crashed heavily below and lay motionless.
Snivy stood at the edge of the bridge, silently looking down at him.
"Why not surrender Mew’s fur to me?"
An unfamiliar voice came from behind her.
"I can secure it somewhere neutral, beyond the reach of Severance and the other organizations hunting it."
A vine shot from beside Snivy’s neck and whipped toward the speaker.
Clang!
Snivy turned and saw an Oshawott blocking the attack with Razor Shell.
"Who are you?" she asked coldly.
"Someone trying to leave this world behind."
Oshawott lowered the scalchop in his hand and looked at her.
"I’m planning to disappear, cut all ties with the underground, and live somewhere no organization will ever find me."
"Then why involve yourself in this?"
"I want to prevent more people from dying over that fur. Nothing more."
"And how do you know I have it?"
"I have my sources."
"You want it?"
Snivy’s vines rose around her.
"Then defeat me."
The moment she finished speaking, she attacked.
Oshawott fought back, and their conflict continued for nearly seven weeks.
They pursued each other through forests, abandoned buildings, ruined facilities, and remote mountain roads.
Every encounter ended without a decisive winner.
After yet another fierce duel, Oshawott lowered his Razor Shell and looked at Snivy.
"There are four major flaws in your Vine Whip technique. Whoever trained you never taught you how to cover them."
"So what?" Snivy replied from beside the campfire.
Oshawott sat with his back toward her.
"I’m worried that if you encounter an elite operative who notices those openings, they’ll exploit them and kill you."
Neither Pokémon spoke for a long time.
Eventually, Oshawott broke the silence.
"I’m leaving tomorrow."
"Where are you going?"
"Somewhere far away. I’m done with fighting, agencies, revenge, and everything else connected to this world."
Snivy’s eyes widened.
A vine rose and pointed at him.
"Wherever you go, I’ll follow you. Anyone who helps you hide will regret it."
Oshawott sighed, picked up his scalchop, and attacked her.
This time, he deliberately targeted the four weaknesses in Snivy’s combat style.
Every exchange left another wound across her body.
When Snivy was barely able to remain standing, Oshawott leaped high and brought Razor Shell down toward her.
He saw the vine coming directly at him.
At the final moment, he changed his movement in midair and deliberately spread his arms.
Vine Whip struck him.
Oshawott fell to the ground, ketchup spilling from his mouth as Snivy caught him.
"Give... Give up this life..."
His voice grew weaker.
"Go somewhere quiet... and live normally..."
After forcing out those words, Oshawott closed his eyes.
Snivy stared silently at his motionless body.
She initially hung him from a tree, concealed Mew’s fur, and began walking away.
A moment later, she stopped.
Snivy returned, lowered Oshawott carefully, wrapped him in a blanket, and buried him properly before finally leaving.
"Waaah! That heartless bastard Mike!" Aaron sobbed uncontrollably. "Why couldn’t he let Oshawott and Snivy be together?"
None of them had expected a tragic romance, much less a character willingly sacrificing his life for someone who had once been his enemy.
Aaron was completely overwhelmed.
"You can cry all you want, but could you stop wiping your nose on my clothes?" Flint asked, staring at him in disgust.
"Shh."
Lucian had become completely absorbed in the movie and told them both to be quiet.
Snivy eventually used Mew’s fur.
Pink light surrounded her body as her appearance changed completely, transforming her into Marill.
From that point onward, Marill played Snivy’s new identity!
The scene changed again.
Marill was now selling mushrooms from a small roadside stall.
Gengar walked past carrying a basket.
The moment he saw her, he froze.
He deliberately passed the stall several times, pretending to inspect the mushrooms while repeatedly glancing in her direction.
Just then, rain began to fall.
Gengar hurried over and helped Marill gather the mushrooms before they were soaked.
From then on, whenever rain clouds began forming, Gengar would visit her stall and help pack everything away.
The days passed one after another.
Eventually, Gengar sought out Mike and asked him to act as a matchmaker between him and Marill.
While eating with Marill, Mike quietly asked what she thought of Gengar.
"Honestly, neither you nor Gengar is getting any younger. You might as well settle down."
Mike leaned closer.
"Gengar is practical, dependable, and surprisingly responsible when it matters. You could do far worse."
Hearing Mike speak like an overbearing relative arranging a marriage, Aaron and Flint burst out laughing.
"Mike really does sound like an aunt trying to marry off her niece," Aaron said. "The last time I visited home, I heard someone say almost exactly the same thing to my neighbor."
Even Lucian couldn’t help but laugh.
Marill admitted that she had feelings for Gengar as well.
However, before agreeing to marry him, she wanted to know whether he could protect himself or whether he was still involved in the dangerous world she had abandoned.
Then she saw several Meowth surrounding him on the road and attacking him.
Gengar merely crouched there and allowed their blows to land without fighting back.
Marill’s eyes visibly widened.
She looked toward the camera as though silently asking why this was happening when it hadn’t been in the script.
Then she appeared to make a decision.
Marill charged forward, defeated the Meowth, and rescued Gengar.
Bruised and swollen, Gengar looked at Marill standing protectively in front of him and gave her a wide grin.
The movie’s pace accelerated from there.
After that incident, Marill and Gengar married and began living together.
"Unless I’m remembering this wrong, weren’t Gengar and Snivy enemies?" Aaron asked while eating chips.
"Snivy changed her appearance and became Marill," Flint reminded him, holding a bag of chips of his own. "Were you crying so hard you missed that part?"
"Oh."
Their peaceful life didn’t last long.
The Meowth who had attacked Gengar returned to Severance headquarters and reported everything they had discovered.
"You’re saying Marill is actually Snivy?" Beedrill asked, staring coldly at the agents below him.
One of the Meowth nodded.
"She’s been living under a new identity."
Beedrill turned toward Quilladin.
"You did well uncovering this."
Quilladin straightened and saluted.
"Thank you, Boss."
"Take Glameow and investigate her. Bring Mew’s fur back to me."
"Understood."
Quilladin left the building.
He used Vine Whip to climb rapidly into a tree, removed a signal flare, and launched it into the sky.
Boom!
The flare exploded overhead.
Glameow quickly arrived.
After Quilladin explained the situation, the two Pokémon departed.
Elsewhere, Marill was tending her mushroom stall when she sensed something.
She raised her head and saw Glameow standing in a tree, staring at her.
Quilladin waited beside her.
Marill quickly packed away the stall and returned home.
She poured a packet of sleeping powder into Gengar’s water.
The moment he drank it, he collapsed unconscious.
Marill carried him to bed and tucked him beneath the blanket.
Before long, Glameow and Quilladin entered the house.
Glameow walked gracefully toward the bed and examined the sleeping Gengar.
"Big Sister, this fat, ugly Pokémon is really the one you chose to spend your life with?"
"Why are you here?" Marill asked from her chair. "Say what you came to say."
"That isn’t for me to decide."
Glameow reached out to touch Gengar.
Before her paw could reach him, one of Marill’s Water-type attacks struck the floor in front of her, forcing her backward.
Quilladin immediately extended Vine Whip.
Marill darted aside as the vines tore through the room.
She caught one of them, pulled Quilladin forward, and struck him hard enough to send him flying out of the house.
Glameow prepared to attack.
"Stand down."
Both Pokémon stopped and looked toward the doorway.
Beedrill slowly floated inside.
He looked at Marill, then moved to the bed and poked Gengar’s chubby cheek with one stinger.
"This is what you chose?"
Marill didn’t answer.
Beedrill didn’t care.
"Hand over Mew’s fur, and I’ll grant you one request."
"I only want to live peacefully with him."
Marill looked at Beedrill.
"Never disturb us again."
Beedrill sneered.
"Give me the fur, and I’ll agree."
Marill looked back at the sleeping Gengar, then rose and left the house.
Beedrill, Glameow, and Quilladin followed her.
The moment they were gone, Gengar opened his eyes.
He threw off the blanket, sat up, and reached beneath the bed.
After pulling out his thin bamboo staff, he took a cloth and carefully polished it.
Elsewhere, Marill led Beedrill and the others to the place where she had hidden Mew’s fur.
She dug up the bottle and handed it to Glameow.
The instant Glameow received it, her eyes flickered.
She leaped into a tree and prepared to flee.
A long stinger suddenly appeared and knocked her back to the ground.
"You’re a traitor too?" Beedrill asked coldly, staring at the bottle wrapped in Glameow’s tail.
Glameow hissed softly.
"Why should Mew’s fur belong to you?"
She looked toward the others.
"Quilladin, I know you joined Severance for money. Help me defeat him, and everything he owns will be yours."
Then she turned toward Marill.
"And you want a peaceful life, don’t you? Help me remove him, and no one will ever come after you or Gengar again."
Quilladin hesitated.
Marill remained silent.
Beedrill scoffed and raised both stingers.
Under the sunlight, they gleamed with a chilling light.
He slowly scraped them together, producing a sharp metallic sound that made every Pokémon present tense.
The next second, Quilladin attacked Glameow.
Beedrill turned toward Marill.
Marill gave no response and simply turned to leave.
Beedrill thrust one stinger toward her.
Marill spun around and blocked, and the two began fighting.
Beedrill had personally trained Snivy during her years with Severance.
He knew every weakness in her combat style and quickly used that knowledge to wound her badly.
Marill eventually found an opportunity to create some distance, then fled and returned home.
Beedrill didn’t pursue her.
He ordered Quilladin to follow while he approached Glameow and attacked repeatedly with his stingers.
Glameow used all her strength to defend herself but was ultimately defeated.
Looking down at the motionless Glameow, Beedrill lightly flicked the fake blood from his weapon.
"I warned you. If you’re going to attack with your claws, commit to your claws. If you’re going to use your tail, commit to your tail."
His expression remained cold.
"You always tried to do both and mastered neither."
Beedrill picked up Mew’s fur and unhurriedly flew toward Marill’s home.
Marill returned and found Gengar sitting beside the bed.
She revealed her true identity and everything she had done while working for Severance.
Then she took out all the money she had saved and handed it to him.
"You need to leave."
"Shh."
Gengar raised one finger, lifted Marill into his arms, and used Hypnosis.
He placed her on the bed, pulled the blanket over her, and allowed her to sleep peacefully.
Then he sat beside the bed with his bamboo staff resting in his arms and waited.
By this point, the story had completely departed from Mike’s original script.
When Quilladin arrived, he found Gengar sitting calmly beside the bed.
"You aren’t running?" Quilladin asked with a smile.
"Why would I run?" Gengar replied with a grin of his own.
"Don’t worry. I’ll go easy on you."
Quilladin slowly extended his vines toward him.
Gengar suddenly charged.
He raised the bamboo staff, spun it rapidly, and struck Quilladin hard enough to send him flying.
Gengar landed in a dramatic three-point pose and looked toward the doorway.
"You’re... Gengar?!"
Quilladin recognized the bamboo staff in his hand.
Gengar grinned.
"Correct."
He raised the staff.
"As your reward, you can have a few more hits."
Quilladin hurriedly extended his vines and fought back.
Beedrill had only just entered the courtyard when Quilladin came flying out of the house and crashed onto the ground.
He looked toward the doorway.
Gengar floated outside with the bamboo staff held in one hand.
When Gengar pointed it toward him, Beedrill let out a sound of realization.
"Oh. I remember you now."
His eyes narrowed.
"You survived?"
Gengar sneered and attacked.
Beedrill calmly defended against Gengar’s fierce strikes.
The two fought from the ground into the sky and then back down again.
At last, Beedrill stabbed Gengar and sent him crashing heavily across the courtyard.
"You really thought you could defeat me?"
Beedrill slowly approached him.
"I’ve ruled the underground for years. If I couldn’t handle someone like you, everything I built would be a joke."
He raised one stinger, preparing to finish Gengar.
A blast of water shot from inside the house.
Beedrill raised his weapon and blocked it, then watched the badly wounded Marill walk outside.
Marill helped Gengar to his feet and looked at Beedrill.
"Together."
Gengar and Marill attacked at the same time.
Beedrill blocked and countered wildly in midair.
There were no flashy special attacks, only raw physical combat between Beedrill’s stingers, Gengar’s bamboo staff, and Marill’s quick close-range strikes.
The fight flowed so smoothly that even Mike had been stunned while filming it.
"I trained you!" Beedrill roared at Marill. "Do you really think the two of you can defeat me with techniques I already understand?"
Beedrill launched a furious assault.
Marill continuously retreated.
Then she saw Gengar appear behind Beedrill and smiled.
"Is that so?"
Before Beedrill’s shocked eyes, Marill’s movements suddenly became far more unpredictable.
She no longer fought like the Snivy he had trained.
Oshawott had already shown her how to correct the four weaknesses in her technique.
Marill found an opening and trapped Beedrill tightly.
Weakly, she said, "Do you know something?"
"Someone else already taught me how to fix the weaknesses you left behind."
Beedrill struggled violently, but Marill refused to release him.
"Go," she said quietly.
Beedrill raised his head in terror.
Gengar was above him, gripping the bamboo staff and spinning rapidly as he charged downward.
"NOOOOO!"
...
In the final scene, Gengar walked beneath the setting sun.
He wore a straw hat, held a piece of foxtail grass between his lips, and carried his bamboo staff in his arms.
A small cape fluttered behind him.
Suddenly, he stopped.
A pink figure descended from the sky and hovered before him, covering its mouth as it giggled.
Gengar took out the glass bottle and offered it to Mew.
"Take it. Don’t let it fall into anyone else’s hands again."
Mew accepted the bottle and nodded from behind its paws.
Then it kissed Gengar on the forehead and flew away.
Gengar remained beneath the sunset with his back to the camera, holding his bamboo staff.
A gust of wind swept past, making his cape and the foxtail grass between his lips flutter dramatically.
Then his straw hat flew away.
Gengar immediately abandoned his dramatic pose and hurried after it.
"Marill~"
Gengar stopped.
Marill stood before him, holding out the straw hat.
Gengar stared at her for a moment before breaking into a wide grin.
The film ended there.
...
"That was wonderful... Waaah! They finally got together!"
"Get away from me! You’re disgusting!"
Flint shoved Aaron away with a look of revulsion.
Lucian smiled at Mew’s appearance at the end of the film.
"So the special guest was Mew. No wonder there were so many Pokémon in the cast."
Lucian shook his head and stretched.
"This was perfect! A movie is a good way to relax between overtime shifts."
He picked up his coffee and took a sip.
"Lucian, look at Flint. He’s treating me like I’m a disgusting creep."
"Come on. You’re making it very difficult not to."
Lucian smiled, took out his phone, and sent a message to the fan group.
[I Really Don’t Want Overtime: This is bad! It looks like he really does know how to make movies...]
[Jordan D’souza: ??? No way! He actually made a good action movie?!]
[Titan: I expected ten minutes of Gengar hitting people with a stick. Why did this have an actual plot?]
[VladimirGluten: Oshawott deserved better, and I will not be taking questions!]
[Kyle Kalka: Gengar losing his dramatic hat at the end was perfect lmao!]
