Chapter 45
Sinnoh, which had been longing for rain, finally welcomed its first summer storm.
The sudden downpour caught the Pokémon in the forest completely off guard, sending them scattering in every direction as they desperately searched for shelter.
Dustox hid behind thick bushes, while Bidoof and Bibarel hurried into the den they had only recently finished building.
The Seedot climbed down from the trees and obediently took cover among the undergrowth.
One Aipom tried to squeeze into Mike’s tent to escape the rain, only for Gengar to smack it back outside with his thin bamboo staff.
Mike shook his head at the sight.
He glanced at Glameow, who was lying beside him and watching the rain with complete focus, then casually remarked, "It’s getting kind of cold with all this rain."
Gengar, Kakuna, and Glameow all turned to look at him.
Gengar immediately pulled out several coats and offered them to Mike.
Mike looked at the concern on his face before shaking his head. "Those are too thick. I’ll start sweating the second I put one on."
"Gar?"
[Then what are we supposed to do?]
Mike sighed dramatically.
"If only there were a small, fluffy Pokémon who could curl up in my arms and keep me warm."
Gengar blinked, looked down at his enormous body, and fell into deep thought.
[Me... I probably won’t fit, right?]
"Hey, stop right there! If you come over here, I’ll only get colder!" Mike stared at the eager Gengar.
"You haven’t forgotten that you’re a Ghost type, have you?"
"Gar."
[Oh. Right.]
Gengar scratched his stomach.
There was no point wondering why he didn’t scratch his head instead.
His arms couldn’t reach it!
Suddenly getting another idea, Gengar picked up Kakuna and held him out to Mike.
Mike and Kakuna stared at each other for several seconds.
Then Mike tossed Kakuna aside.
Kakuna: "???"
’Are you even human?!’
’What did Kakuna ever do to you?’
’Kakuna can keep people warm too! This is outrageous!’
Mike ignored Kakuna’s silent accusations and looked expectantly at Glameow.
Glameow yawned, then gracefully walked over and jumped into his arms.
Mike relaxed immediately, his eyes half-closing as her soft fur warmed his arms.
He sat inside the tent with Glameow nestled against him, quietly watching the raindrops strike the river and splash across its surface.
Gengar and Kakuna sat beside him while the steady patter of rain against the tent filled the air.
For a moment, Mike felt that traveling wasn’t nearly as exhausting as he had expected.
After holding Glameow and watching the rain for a while, Mike finally released her and stretched.
"All right. It’s getting late, so it’s time for our first proper livestream!"
He turned toward Gengar.
"Gengar, come help me."
"Gar—"
[Coming.]
Under Mike’s guidance, Gengar had already learned how to adjust the streaming equipment and find a decent camera angle.
"Gar—"
[It’s too dark over there. Sit here instead.]
Gengar pointed toward the entrance of the tent.
Mike nodded obediently.
"I’ll follow your advice, Master Gengar."
The moment Gengar heard Mike call him "Master," his expression became deadly serious.
Mike sat in the spot Gengar had chosen while Gengar carefully inspected the camera one final time before nodding in satisfaction.
"Gar—"
[Everything’s ready. I’m starting the stream.]
"Okay."
Mike lowered his head and continued fiddling with the gaming equipment Gholdengo Is Number One had sent him.
It had been a long time since he had last played anything, and since the rain had trapped them inside the tent anyway, this was the perfect opportunity.
The livestream started, and the first viewers quickly entered.
[Route201Camper: First! First! I’m the first one here!]
[PiplupSupremacy: He’s finally live. What are we doing today?]
[BerryJuiceAddict: Why isn’t the streamer saying anything?]
[Call Me a Ghost-Type Expert: That’s even better. Let Gengar host the stream.]
[MetatronXII: Put some respect on Master Gengar. Bro set up the whole stream by himself.]
[Magus_Of_Flower: Gengar already has better camera work than half the creators on this app.]
Gengar stood in front of the screen and stared at the scrolling comments for a long time.
(.・ˇ_ˇ・.:)
"Garrrr."
[I can’t read any of this! Damn it!]
[Mimikyu_DCX: Never mind. He can’t even read the chat!]
[RyZiinG: And? He has charisma. That’s more important!]
[VesperNebula: You can’t host a livestream without reading the chat!]
[Choco_Monster: Man, just watch him.]
[VesperNebula: I am watching him. He’s just standing there!]
...
"Meow?"
Glameow’s cry finally pulled Mike’s attention back.
He looked over and found her staring curiously at the streaming equipment.
Mike smiled. "That’s the livestream equipment."
Then he suddenly froze and raised his head.
"Oh, right! The livestream!"
The number of viewers had already passed one thousand.
[Blabla_Gros: BRO FORGOT HE WAS STREAMING 😭]
[CSideBRZ: Gengar did all that work just for Mike to wander off mentally.]
[NoFaceNoFollow: Did you seriously forget you were livestreaming?]
[Definitely Not a Fairy-Type Fan: You bastard! You kept us waiting for half an hour!]
Mike immediately noticed that comment.
"Half an hour? Were you sleepwalking? I only started the stream a few minutes ago."
He paused before giving the camera an apologetic smile.
"Still... sorry about that. I was trying to figure out the gaming equipment Gholdengo Is Number One sponsored, and I forgot to greet everyone."
[SinnohNetizen: Didn’t he sponsor your livestream equipment too?]
Mike nodded.
"That’s right. Gholdengo Is Number One sponsored all of it, so I really need to thank him properly!"
[Gholdengo Is Number One: It was nothing.]
The message floated across the screen.
[Route201Camper: Gholdengo Is Number One is so generous!]
[BerryJuiceAddict: All praise Gholdengo Is Number One!]
[Dao_Of_The_Turtle: Wealth is temporary. A good sponsor is eternal.]
[Gholdengo Is Number One: Are you inside a tent in the wilderness? I can hear rain hitting the fabric.]
"That’s right. We’re currently in the forest. It started raining just after we finished eating, so I decided to use the time to rest, livestream, and play some games."
[PiplupSupremacy: You’re still traveling through the wilderness?]
"Yes. We’ll probably stay here for a while because I want to record something none of you will ever forget."
[Route201Camper: Thanks for working so hard. I’ll send you a donation!]
[MurkrowAfterDark: Why does it look like you’re deep inside the forest?]
"We are deep inside the forest."
[SafetyFirstTrainer: Be careful out there. If you die, where are we supposed to get more videos?]
Mike stared silently at the comment.
"...Thank you for your concern, but I think I’ll be alive for quite a long time."
[Mimikyu_DCX: "If you die, who uploads?" is CRAZY 💀]
[Blabla_Gros: They’re right though.]
[Genie_Unshackled: No, they are not right! Maybe ask whether he’s safe first?]
[Rayan_Alzahrani_4430: Content first. Feelings later!]
[VesperNebula: You people are insane.]
Mike could only shake his head at the argument unfolding in the chat.
[DreamingOfATeam: Can we see your Pokémon? I really want a Pokémon of my own too.]
That comment caught Mike’s attention.
He smiled and nodded. "No problem."
"Gengar, come say hello to everyone."
Gengar moved in front of the camera and greeted the viewers with a mischievous grin.
"This is Kakuna. He evolved from Weedle."
Mike then picked up Glameow and gently held her in front of the camera.
"And this is our little princess, Miss Glameow. Isn’t she adorable?"
He looked down at her.
"Glameow, say hello to everyone."
Glameow decided to cooperate and gave the camera a soft, adorable cry.
"Meow~"
[Hello~]
Mike felt his heart melt.
[GlameowFanatic: Aaaaaah! Glameow! How can she be this cute?!]
[Definitely Not a Fairy-Type Fan: Dude, just leave. Glameow can host the stream.]
[SilentWatcher: ...So cute.]
[CSideBRZ: Mike, move. You’re blocking Glameow.]
[Blabla_Gros: Nah, let the man stay. He’s the one who brought her here.]
[Mimikyu_DCX: Wrong. This is Glameow’s channel now!]
[Dao_Of_The_Turtle: Every kingdom needs a princess and her loyal servants.]
[ZenZen00: Why do you always talk like that?]
The comments were instantly flooded with messages praising Glameow.
"You all like Glameow that much?" Mike asked with a laugh. "Should I let her stay and host the stream with me?"
The viewers unanimously agreed.
Mike lowered his head and quietly discussed the idea with Glameow.
The audience couldn’t hear their conversation clearly because he spoke so softly, but the sight of him patiently negotiating with her felt unexpectedly warm.
[VesperNebula: Why is he talking to her like they’re discussing a business contract?]
[Blabla_Gros: She knows her value.]
[FOR_FUN_SERVANT: Glameow is demanding seventy percent of the donations!]
[tankbusternbiscuit: Honestly? She deserves it.]
Before long, Mike raised his head and smiled.
"Glameow says she agrees."
"Gengar, Kakuna, do you two want to join us too?"
"Gar!"
[Yes!]
Kakuna: [Jiiii~]
"Then come sit beside me."
Mike patted the empty space next to him.
Gengar grinned, carried Kakuna over, and sat down.
[Call Me a Ghost-Type Expert: Gengar is so cute~]
[GlameowFanatic: Glameow is adorable too~]
[BugTypesAreTheCoolest: And Kakuna too~]
[VesperNebula: Finally, someone remembered Kakuna.]
[Dextroller3x: Bro got offered as a hand warmer, thrown away, and now he’s expected to smile for the camera 😭]
[Keyos: Kakuna has no arms and still catches more disrespect than anyone here.]
[Dao_Of_The_Turtle: The cocoon must suffer before the butterfly can rise.]
[Stormonix: Kakuna evolves into Beedrill, philosopher boy!]
[Dao_Of_The_Turtle: My point still stands.]
A huge number of viewers immediately began repeating the same comments.
Mike picked up the gaming equipment and turned it over in his hands.
"Strange. How do I use this thing? I’ve never tried it before."
He held it toward the camera and asked the viewers for help.
With the viewers’ instructions, Mike finally managed to connect the game to the livestream.
"Okay. Let’s play!"
Looking at the holographic screen projected by the drone, Mike clenched his fist and shouted enthusiastically.
