Chapter 77: Who Can Rein In This Little Devil?
The scene changed once again.
Sinnoh League headquarters.
Cynthia sat in the main conference room with a report on the future development of the Sinnoh region placed before her.
Tiana had been seated in the chair beside her. She held a picture book in her arms and appeared perfectly quiet and well-behaved.
Lucian entered carrying several documents and adjusted his glasses.
"Cynthia, did you bring your daughter to work today?"
"Mm."
Cynthia didn’t raise her head.
"She shouldn’t cause any trouble. I brought a picture book for her."
Lucian glanced at Tiana, who was quietly reading, and nodded.
"She seems like a very well-behaved child."
"Thank you."
Lucian walked to his seat, sat down, and began reviewing the documents in his hands.
Ten minutes later, Cynthia received a phone call. There was a document she needed to verify in person, so before leaving, she reminded Tiana:
"Mommy needs to step outside to deal with something. I’ll be back in five minutes. Stay here, read your book, and don’t run around. Do you understand?"
"I understand!"
Tiana nodded, her obedient expression utterly flawless.
Cynthia left the conference room.
The instant the door closed, Tiana jumped down from her chair, closed her picture book, set it aside, and surveyed the entire room.
Lucian raised his head and adjusted his glasses.
"Tiana, is something wrong?"
Tiana walked over and looked up at him.
"Mister, what’s your name?"
"My name is Lucian. I’m a member of the Sinnoh Elite Four."
Lucian set down his documents and offered her a kindly smile.
"Is there something you need help with?"
"Uncle Lucian."
Tiana tilted her head.
"Do you have a Garchomp?"
"No. I’m a Psychic-type Trainer."
"Oh."
Tiana nodded, then asked:
"Are your Pokémon strong?"
"Well..."
Lucian adjusted his glasses, a barely perceptible trace of pride entering his voice.
"My Bronzong is one of the strongest Psychic-type Pokémon in the Sinnoh region. When it comes to Psychic-type abilities, you could say that it—"
"Can it lift the statue outside?"
"What?"
Tiana grabbed Lucian’s sleeve and pulled him toward the window. She pointed at the statue of Dialga outside the League headquarters.
The statue stood approximately three meters tall and weighed several tons at the very least.
Lucian’s smile froze.
He looked at the statue outside, then lowered his gaze to the three-year-old child standing in front of him.
"...Tiana, that statue can’t be moved."
"Why not?"
"It’s a landmark of the Sinnoh League headquarters and an important piece of historical and cultural heritage."
"But standing there all day must be boring."
Tiana tilted her head.
"Look at it. It stands there every day without moving at all. It must be tired, so I want to help it change positions."
"Statues don’t get tired."
"How do you know?"
Tiana moved closer, staring directly at him with her golden and purple eyes.
"You’re not a statue."
Lucian opened his mouth, only to discover that he was somehow unable to refute the logic of a three-year-old child.
"How about this?"
Lucian crouched down and tried to make his voice sound as sincere as possible. He removed a mint candy from his pocket.
"You can have this candy first, and we’ll discuss the statue after your mother returns. All right?"
[VIP Chat Group]
[Flint]: Hahahahaha! Look at Lucian’s expression! I’m dying!
[Aaron]: Tiana already knows how to make life difficult for adults at three years old. What will happen when she grows up?
[Bertha]: This child has great potential.
[Volkner]: The rest of you get to do all the talking, while Lucian is the one who has to suffer.
[Lucian]: ...
The video continued.
When Cynthia finally finished her meeting and entered the room, she found Tiana sitting beside Lucian’s desk and eating cookies.
"Tiana, did you cause Uncle Lucian any trouble?"
Lucian looked up.
"It wasn’t too bad. She merely asked me a few questions."
"What kind of questions?"
Tiana raised her hand.
"I asked Uncle Lucian whether his Pokémon could move the statue of Dialga."
Cynthia fell silent for a moment.
"...Lucian, thank you for your trouble."
"It’s fine. Things have been rather busy lately, so this was actually a chance for me to relax."
"Thank you."
Cynthia’s voice carried genuine gratitude.
But the matter wasn’t over yet.
Cynthia had originally planned to leave Tiana at home during the meeting the following day. Unfortunately, Asher suddenly said that he needed to go out as well. This time, it was a mission assigned by the League, and he truly couldn’t refuse it.
Cynthia ended the call and looked at Tiana, who was lying across Garchomp’s belly and drawing pictures.
She sighed.
There was no other choice. She would have to bring Tiana to the League again.
This time, they encountered Flint.
Flint greeted Tiana enthusiastically when he saw her.
"Hey! The little princess is here again! Do you want to challenge Uncle Flint’s Infernape today?"
Tiana placed her hands on her hips.
"Hmph! Don’t get too proud, Uncle Flint. Next time, I’ll bring Daddy’s Dragonite, and then you’ll see how strong I am!"
Flint laughed.
"Oh? Does that mean you don’t dare accept the challenge without your father’s Dragonite?"
"Who said that? I still have Mommy’s Garchomp!"
"Tiana, stop causing trouble!"
Cynthia glared at her.
Tiana immediately wilted.
"Hmph. Mommy is so stingy. She won’t even let me borrow Garchomp."
"Don’t you know why I won’t let you take Garchomp?"
Cynthia crossed her arms and began listing Tiana’s numerous offenses.
"Weren’t you the one who insisted that Garchomp use Draco Meteor here last time? Fortunately, it didn’t listen to you. Otherwise, the entire League headquarters would have needed to be rebuilt!"
Flint’s heart softened when he saw how dejected Tiana looked.
"Tiana, it isn’t a serious problem if your mother won’t lend you Garchomp. There are other solutions."
Tiana’s eyes immediately brightened, her mismatched golden and purple irises sparkling.
"Really? Uncle Flint, are you going to lend me Infernape for a day?"
The corner of Flint’s mouth twitched.
"Well... no."
Tiana’s little face instantly fell, and her lips pushed forward in an enormous pout.
Flint found her expression amusing. He crouched down and rubbed her head.
"I can’t lend you Infernape, but I can give you an idea. Why don’t you ask your mother to give you a Pokémon of your own?"
Tiana secretly glanced at Cynthia and blinked her mismatched eyes.
"Will Mommy give me one? I’ve asked her lots of times before, but she always said no..."
"That’s because you weren’t well-behaved enough before."
Flint lowered his voice.
"Think about it. If you can take good care of a Pokémon, won’t your mother believe that you’ve grown up?"
Tiana’s eyes lit up once again. Even the way her golden and purple eyes darted around appeared particularly unusual.
"Mommy!"
Tiana ran over and wrapped both arms around Cynthia’s leg.
"I promise I’ll listen to you from now on! Please give me a Pokémon!"
Cynthia lowered her gaze toward the daughter clinging to her leg and raised an eyebrow.
"You said the same thing last time."
"I really mean it this time!"
"Then tell me first. What do you want a Pokémon for?"
Tiana released her leg and took a step back.
She planted her hands on her hips, puffed out her chest, and adopted an exceptionally serious expression.
"I want it to become stronger with me! Then, if anyone ever bullies Mommy, I’ll have my Pokémon beat them up!"
Cynthia paused.
Then the corners of her lips rose slightly.
Although Tiana was rather mischievous, she still cared deeply about her mother.
In truth, Cynthia had prepared Tiana’s first Pokémon long ago.
Her own Garchomp had produced a Pokémon Egg, which Cynthia had been keeping inside a temperature-controlled incubator at the research institute. She had originally intended to wait until it hatched before giving the Pokémon to Tiana.
However, as she looked at her daughter’s earnest expression, she suddenly felt that allowing Tiana to care for the Egg herself might also be a good choice.
After all, Tiana was far too talented at causing trouble. Even Lucian couldn’t endure it and had repeatedly begged Cynthia to take Tiana home, go on leave, and stop bringing her to work.
Having Tiana care for a Pokémon Egg might at least place some restraints on this little devil.
