The video continued playing.

Team Plasma’s Castelia City branch—the First Operations Team’s private office.

When Captain K pushed open the door, every Team Plasma member in the office was sprawled across their desk, fast asleep.

"Everyone, get up!"

Captain K strode to the center of the office and planted both hands on the conference table.

"We have an important mission briefing today!"

No one moved.

One member who had been awakened merely shifted into a more comfortable position and continued sleeping without even raising his head.

The corner of Captain K’s mouth twitched.

"I said... we have an important mission briefing today!"

Still, no one moved.

Captain K took a deep breath.

He was, after all, a man who had weathered his fair share of storms. Such a minor setback wasn’t enough to break through his psychological defenses.

Just as Captain K prepared to repeat himself for the third time, the office door opened.

Miori entered carrying a cup of coffee.

At the same moment, every member who had been sleeping at their desk immediately sprang to their feet.

"Good morning, Deputy Captain!"

Their voices were perfectly synchronized and brimming with energy.

Captain K stood with his mouth open, every word he had intended to say lodged in his throat.

Miori adjusted her sunglasses and nodded to the group.

"Thank you all for your hard work."

Then she looked toward Captain K and blinked.

"Oh, Captain. You’re here too."

Captain K’s face twitched for quite some time.

He took a deep breath and repeatedly reminded himself:

Shiny Shinyko was personally promoted by me.

This is a good thing. It proves I have an excellent eye for talent.

Even though it now appeared that he had... perhaps... possibly... been completely sidelined.

"Ahem."

Captain K cleared his throat and attempted to reclaim some of his authority.

"Since the deputy captain has arrived as well, we’ll begin today’s mission briefing. Everyone, take a seat."

The members remained standing.

Every pair of eyes turned toward Miori.

Miori had already sat down and was preparing to enjoy her coffee. However, when she noticed that everyone else was still standing, she spoke:

"Since Captain K told you to sit, then sit down."

Without the slightest hesitation, everyone sat simultaneously.

[VIP Chat Group]

[Skyla]: Hahaha! Captain K is genuinely miserable! His entire team ignored him inside his own office!

[Lorelei]: She became so successful as an undercover agent that she sidelined her own captain. I have to admit that Miori possesses exceptional talent for infiltration.

[Flint]: I’m seriously beginning to suspect that if Miori continues like this, by the time N realizes something is wrong, Team Plasma will already have been renamed Team Miori.

The video continued playing.

Captain K looked at the scene before him and no longer knew what to say.

Forget it.

He would go straight to the important matters.

"Today’s meeting concerns two things."

Captain K opened his folder.

"First, the Leader is extremely satisfied with the recent performance of our Castelia City branch."

"It’s all thanks to the deputy captain!"

"That’s right! Without the deputy captain, we never could have completed our assignments on time!"

"Ahem."

Miori put down her coffee and modestly waved one hand.

"I was merely fulfilling my responsibilities. All of you have worked hard, so everyone will receive double their usual bonus this month."

A deafening cheer immediately erupted throughout the office.

Captain K finally couldn’t restrain himself any longer.

"Wait! Deputy Captain, the organization’s funding is limited! Where are we supposed to find the money to double everyone’s bonuses?"

"Oh."

Miori pulled the black card from her pocket and placed it on the table.

"Just charge it to this card."

[VIP Chat Group]

[Valerie]: Hahaha! I was wondering how Miori managed to win everyone over. It turns out she did it through the power of money!

[Wallace]: And she’s using the card Steven gave her. Once Team Plasma is arrested and the League investigates the financial records, they’ll make a shocking discovery—the secret mastermind funding Team Plasma was Steven all along!

[Steven]: ?? Wait, you can use it like that?!

[Skyla]: @Elesa, hahahaha! Miori truly is your daughter. She really knows how to play people!

[Elesa]: In any case, I refuse to admit that she inherited this from me.

[Skyla]: Oh? You’ve already started accepting that Miori is your daughter?

[Elesa]: ???

[Diantha]: @Skyla, what do you think, sister? That technique works well, doesn’t it?

[Skyla]: Thank you for sharing your wisdom, sister!

[Cynthia]: ...

The video continued playing.

"...Fine."

Captain K took a deep breath.

"We’ll handle the bonuses as the deputy captain suggested. Now, onto the second matter."

"This mission involves intercepting a shipment of illegally captured Pokémon being transported from northern Unova."

Captain K slapped a stack of photographs onto the table.

"According to our intelligence, the shipment will pass through an abandoned checkpoint on Route 4. Your assignment is to establish an ambush there and intercept it."

"Deputy Captain, you’ll lead the operation. Any problems?"

"Captain."

Miori rose to her feet.

"I swear upon my sunglasses that these Pokémon will return to where they truly belong."

Captain K felt that something about her statement sounded slightly strange.

However, Miori’s voice was far too sincere.

"...Very well."

He nodded.

"The organization trusts you."

The scene changed.

Route 4—the abandoned checkpoint.

Miori stood at the front of the team with her hands clasped behind her back and began delivering her pre-operation speech.

"Today is the First Operations Team’s first large-scale transport mission since our expansion."

"I personally trained every one of you. I trust that during today’s operation, each of you will do an excellent job of—taking it easy."

The members were about to applaud, only for every hand to freeze in midair.

"Deputy Captain? Did you just tell us to ’take it easy’?"

"Oh."

Miori’s expression didn’t change.

"I said, ’take it, easy.’ It’s an ancient expression meaning to accept your duty with a calm heart while remaining true to your original convictions."

"I see!"

The bespectacled member immediately produced a small notebook and wrote it down.

"The deputy captain is truly learned!"

"Now, I’ll assign everyone’s positions."

Miori took out a hand-drawn map and unfolded it.

"Follow my commands once the operation begins."

After every member moved into position, Miori began waiting for the transport vehicles to arrive.

Before long, three trucks appeared on the road.

The instant the first truck crossed the checkpoint’s entrance, Miori sharply swung one hand downward.

"Move!"

The bald member charged out from behind cover and threw a smoke bomb.

The thin member and the bespectacled member circled around from the other side of the road and released several Liepard and Weavile to block the convoy’s retreat.

When the first truck’s driver saw the Pokémon suddenly appearing in his rearview mirror, he panicked and jerked the steering wheel aside.

The entire vehicle swerved before coming to a crooked stop beside the road.

In less than thirty seconds, the escorts from all three trucks had been subdued and were crouching beside the road with their hands clasped behind their heads.

Miori stepped out from behind a concrete wall and brushed the dust from her hands.

"Take an inventory of the Pokémon being transported."

"Yes, Deputy Captain!"

The five members answered in unison before splitting up and rushing into the three trucks.

A short while later, the bespectacled member poked his head out of the second truck.

"Deputy Captain! There’s a Zweilous in here, but it’s in terrible condition!"

Miori quickly walked over.

The interior of the truck was extremely dark.

A Zweilous lay curled up inside an iron cage in the corner.

Both of its heads hung close to the floor, and a wound on its body was still bleeding.

Most importantly, a deeply suppressed fury burned in its eyes—an anger that seemed ready to erupt at any moment.

"Don’t approach it."

Miori raised one hand to stop the bespectacled member.

"You and the others move the remaining cages. Leave this one to me."

The bespectacled member nodded and withdrew from the truck.

Miori crouched in front of the cage and removed her sunglasses, revealing her blue eyes.

She looked directly into Zweilous’s eyes and spoke slowly and clearly:

"I know you’re furious right now, but your wound needs treatment. If it’s left alone, the infection will spread."

"I’ll place the medicine outside the cage. You can decide for yourself whether you want me to help you."

She placed the medicine and bandages beside the cage door, then retreated three steps.

Both of Zweilous’s heads stared at the bottle of medicine.

The fury in its eyes remained, but an almost imperceptible trace of hesitation had appeared alongside it.

"Deputy Captain, we’re under attack!"

The bald member shouted from outside the truck.

"What?"

Miori immediately rushed out after hearing him.

There were no Trainers outside.

However, a blinding streak of lightning was rapidly moving through the bushes.

Miori was about to reach for a Poké Ball when the figure shot directly from the undergrowth and landed on top of the truck.

The moment she clearly saw the Pokémon, Miori’s pupils contracted slightly.

Zeraora.
