Looking at Groudon and Kyogre’s ferocious appearances, Cynthia wasn’t convinced Rayquaza could handle both at once. Beside her, Rio smiled.
One against two? Rayquaza’s gone berserk before and taken on seven at once—and all of them were regional guardian-level legendaries, including the three Sinnoh gods. This is nothing for my bro.
Just as Rio was amused by Cynthia’s doubts, Mega Rayquaza began showcasing its god-tier movement. It weaved through the air with ease, dodging Groudon’s Hyper Beam, then twisted like a dragon through Kyogre’s Origin Pulse—neither attack even grazed it.
After evading successfully, Rayquaza let out a triumphant roar. A golden sphere formed in its mouth, and it launched a dazzling Draco Meteor into the sky. The attack exploded in a brilliant burst, raining down golden meteors—like Arceus’s Judgment—onto Groudon and Kyogre.
Groudon stood on the dry seabed, covering its face and trying to dodge, like it was thinking, Move, damn legs! Kyogre swayed and weaved on the ocean surface, frantically trying to avoid the meteors, its eyes wide with terror.
In short—they were a mess.
Cynthia was dumbfounded. Seconds ago, she’d been worried about Rayquaza—and now she was proven wrong. Not only had she witnessed Rayquaza’s flawless evasive maneuvers, but it had also made Groudon and Kyogre look pathetic with just one move.
But two seconds later, her concern returned. Groudon, still covering its face, suddenly pulled a sneaky move—it lowered its arm and fired a Mud Shot wreathed in flame at the roaring, triumphant Rayquaza. The attack struck—and Rayquaza was knocked out of the sky.
"Groudon~" — Nice one, old buddy—my turn! Kyogre, seizing the opportunity, fired another Origin Pulse without hesitation.
But for some reason—whether luck, power, or Rayquaza just humoring Groudon—the moment Kyogre’s Origin Pulse was about to hit, Rayquaza snapped back to its senses and executed another perfect dodge, weaving through the attack. Then it fired a concentrated Hyper Beam—blazing and incredibly fast. Kyogre hadn’t even ducked back into the sea before the beam struck.
Kyogre let out a pained cry as it was dragged across the water, closing a distance of hundreds of meters and slamming straight into Groudon’s arms. Groudon looked at Kyogre in its arms with a look of disappointment, then turned its gaze toward Rayquaza.
The next moment, several booming crashes echoed—pillars of searing rock erupted beneath Rayquaza, trapping it in a cage of stone. Cynthia held her breath for Rayquaza—but again, she’d underestimated it. The stone pillars shattered. Rayquaza shot across the sea like a missile, wreathed in green light as it used its signature move—Dragon Ascent—charging straight at the still-embracing Groudon and Kyogre.
Their eyes went wide with terror. They tried to push each other away, but compared to Rayquaza’s speed, they were too slow. A thunderous explosion erupted where they collided—a golden blast that covered a hundred-meter radius. The screen went white.
When the light faded, Groudon and Kyogre had noticeably shrunk in size. They looked up at Rayquaza with none of their earlier ferocity. After exchanging a glance, they silently trudged back toward their lairs.
Rayquaza let out a triumphant roar, flashed out of its Mega form, and vanished through the clouds.
All was calm again.
"Is... is it over?" Cynthia murmured in awe.
"Yes—it’s over. Rayquaza stopped them," Professor Yanase nodded.
"Powerful—incredibly powerful." Cynthia stared at Rayquaza’s retreating figure on the screen. She now understood why Groudon and Kyogre had teamed up the moment they saw it. She’d thought Groudon and Kyogre were terrifying enough—but Rayquaza was even more fearsome. It had taken on two of them and defeated the Incarnate of Land and Sea in just three moves.
"Yes—truly powerful," Rio agreed. Watching Rayquaza’s overwhelming strength, he resolved not to challenge it anytime soon—even with Mewtwo now under his command. Regional guardians had their own pecking order.
"Incredibly powerful," Professor Yanase added. "Such a powerful Pokémon shouldn’t be controlled by humans. It was the right decision to throw away the remaining Orb core."
Her words caught the attention of Rio, Cynthia, and Professor Cattleya.
"Orb core?" Cynthia asked.
"It’s a device that could control Rayquaza—similar to Groudon’s Red Orb and Kyogre’s Blue Orb. But Rayquaza’s Orb was man-made," Professor Yanase explained openly—this was no secret to many. "It was destroyed during the Rayquaza capture plan. I used to regret it, but now I’m glad it’s gone."
"Indeed—such a powerful Pokémon shouldn’t be under human control," Cynthia agreed.
What they didn’t notice was the gleam in Rio’s eyes. Orb core? Where did she throw it?
