Chapter 412 - 410: My Husband Says I’m Twisting Logic, and He’s Right
Her eyes crinkled in a smile as she spoke, her gaze fixed on him. Her voice was filled with a mix of novelty and curiosity.
As his gaze swept over her face, he found himself thinking that her eyes... were quite beautiful.
He remained silent, his expression calm, but his fingers, resting on his lap, began to tap unconsciously. Javier Sinclair could feel that in that fleeting moment, an unfamiliar emotion had stirred within him.
The woman propped her chin on her hand, looking ready for a casual chat.
She smiled faintly and called out to him softly,
"Husband."
Javier Sinclair’s fingers froze. A fleeting stiffness crossed his calm face. He lifted his gaze slightly and said, "I am not your husband right now. Do not address me incorrectly." His voice grew heavy on the last sentence as if for emphasis. "I am the Demon God."
"I know you’re the Demon God; you don’t have to stress it. If you weren’t, I wouldn’t dare call you my husband," Celeste Grant said, twirling a lock of her hair around her finger with a slight smile. "Besides, who says you aren’t? In the future—my present—you are my husband. That’s an unchangeable fact. In other words, we’re fated to be together."
He seemed at a loss for words, finally forcing out, "You... you’re just twisting logic."
Celeste Grant shook her head slightly. "Not at all. I’m just telling the truth. Are you not you right now? The time might be different, but you’re still you. So, as I see it, the you of my time is my husband, which means the you from fifteen thousand years ago must also be my husband. There’s no flaw in that logic. I treat both of you equally."
Javier Sinclair: "..."
The corner of his mouth twitched as he couldn’t stop himself from retorting, "Heh. In that case, I suppose I have you to thank."
Celeste Grant chuckled. "Haha, no need for that. There’s no need for ’thank yous’ between us."
Javier Sinclair shot her a look.
He frowned slightly, truly unable to comprehend the situation.
’He was the Demon God. In his original destiny, something like a fated marriage was impossible. Even the righteous gods who managed such things had no jurisdiction over him. Yet, somehow, in the future, a woman had truly appeared and become entangled with him.’
He held up his hand and saw a red thread tied around his wrist. The other end of this thread led directly to the woman inside the Ancient Mirror.
This marriage line on his hand felt like it had materialized out of thin air.
From within the Ancient Mirror, he could hear the woman at the other end of the red thread still talking.
"Dearest hubby, let me ask you something."
"What’s the Demon Realm like? Oh, right, do the Demon Clan grow horns on their heads?"
"What’s the difference between Demon Clan cultivators and those of Humanity?"
"And as the Demon God, do you live alone? Where do you live? Is the sky in the Demon Realm always dark and gloomy?"
In Celeste Grant’s mind, shaped by the dramas she’d watched, the Immortal Realm was a place of swirling clouds and ethereal mists, with Divine Birds soaring through the air. In contrast, she imagined a place like the Demon Realm to be perpetually sunless and steeped in dense Demonic Qi.
Javier Sinclair: "..."
In that moment, even the Demon God felt this woman, Celeste Grant, asked far too many questions. He lifted his gaze slightly, glanced at her, and said flatly, "Shut up."
Celeste Grant feigned a gasp, then said with a laugh, "My, my, husband, you’re so fierce. One moment you’re holding me and calling me your sweet girl, the next you’re telling me to shut up. It breaks my little heart."
Javier Sinclair: "..."
’This woman has no shame.’
Javier Sinclair averted his gaze and, with a wave of his hand over the Ancient Mirror, severed the connection.
He lifted his hand again, looking at his wrist. The red thread was still there, wrapped around his hand. It hadn’t vanished.
"Heh... Now this is interesting."
"Celeste Grant."
He lowered his gaze.
Lost in thought.
「Meanwhile, on the other side of the Ancient Mirror.」
"Huh? Why’d it change back?"
"Why’d he hang up? Hey! Let’s talk some more!"
The light from the Mysterious Ancient Mirror in her hand slowly faded until it returned to its normal state. The mirror shrank to the size of her palm, resting quietly in her grasp.
"Hello? Are you still there?"
"Husband."
"The Archfiend."
"Sweetheart? Baby daddy?"
Oh, well.
The Mysterious Ancient Mirror had activated and deactivated in her hands so suddenly. She figured it was probably because she didn’t know how to use this Divine Artifact yet. But, knowing Javier Sinclair, she was 99.9% sure he had been the one to cut the connection.
’He’s ignoring me.’
But Celeste Grant could understand. After all, to him, she was a total stranger.
’His true body is always in the Demon Realm, so how did his avatar end up in the Cultivation World?’ Celeste Grant felt that their every encounter seemed preordained.
Her Demon God husband from fifteen thousand years ago felt too far removed from her. Seeing him was a matter of fate, so she was calm about it even if she couldn’t.
Thinking of Javier Sinclair, she glanced down at the Mysterious Ancient Mirror in her hand. "He was holding me just last night, and then gone when I woke up. I wonder how he’s doing in the Demonic Domain."
She gently rubbed the Mysterious Ancient Mirror. Suddenly, her fingers grew warm, and then the pattern of a flower appeared on the back of her hand.
The flower glowed with a faint golden light as it manifested, then slowly faded from the back of her hand.
The instant the flower vanished, she felt a distinct connection form between herself and the Ancient Mirror.
Celeste Grant stared intently at the Ancient Mirror in her hand.
"This is a Divine Artifact acknowledging its master."
As soon as the words left her mouth, a small, translucent figure appeared above the Mysterious Ancient Mirror. The figure had wings and was as beautiful as a tiny pixie. It flapped its wings, circled her wrist and the Ancient Mirror twice, and finally came to rest on her finger.
Celeste Grant glanced at it.
’This must be the Artifact Spirit of the Ancient Mirror.’
"Greetings, Mistress."
"You’re the Artifact Spirit from the Mysterious Ancient Mirror?"
The little pixie nodded.
"Yes, Mistress. I am the Artifact Spirit of the Mysterious Ancient Mirror. My name is Miro. Since the Master isn’t here, please allow me to protect you from now on."
"Miro is a nice name. You can stick with me from now on, then."
’So this Divine Artifact wasn’t something Javier Sinclair just happened to find, as he’d claimed. It was his from the very beginning. He just doesn’t remember.’
"You’re Javier Sinclair’s Divine Artifact."
"Yes, Mistress. I am the Demon God’s Companion Divine Artifact. I was always with the Master before."
"Whoa, so you’re a Companion Divine Artifact. What’s your main purpose?"
"Miro can connect to the past and the future, survey events that have happened and will happen, and know all of a person’s past and future lives."
In short, it was a priceless treasure.
Hearing the pixie’s words, Celeste Grant’s eyes lit up. "This is amazing! The novels didn’t lie; any divine artifact that’s an ancient mirror is bound to be something special."
But before she could get too excited, the little pixie quickly added a warning.
"Mistress, your cultivation is low, and you don’t possess Divine Power like the Master. Miro advises you not to use the Mysterious Ancient Mirror’s power to survey the past and future, as it will consume your life force. With the slightest misstep, millions upon millions of lives could be erased from the river of time because of you, ceasing to exist forever."
