Chapter 471 - 469: Truly Never-Ending
A ghost that won’t go away?
Yeah, a ghost that won’t go away. That pretty much sums it up.
Hearing this, Celeste Grant threw up her hands in exasperation.
She spoke up, "Yeah, I’d like to know why she refuses to stay dead, too." At that, Celeste Grant couldn’t resist complaining, "I just have to rant about this. If this were a novel, this plot twist would be ridiculous. We’re almost at the finale, and she pops up again just to tick off the readers. I actually feel bad for them."
Javier Sinclair nodded slightly, agreeing with her.
’She was thoroughly dead, and now she’s suddenly back. It’s definitely unsettling.’ With that in mind, he said, "This Jocelyn Grant woman is surprisingly hard to kill. I killed her time and again in the beginning, but she never stayed dead. Later, her Divine Soul clearly scattered to the winds, yet she can still just pop up like this. She’s like a fly buzzing around us—utterly annoying."
Celeste Grant nodded slightly.
"Yeah, she’s getting a little obnoxious."
"Any self-respecting arch-nemesis would know to play dead even if they’re alive, and not just wander around. But the moment she’s back, she’s already itching to make trouble. That damn mutt. Pah. Now, just mentioning her name or even thinking about her is starting to give me trauma."
As she spoke, a couple of curses escaped Celeste Grant’s lips.
Hearing her curse, Javier Sinclair spoke up.
He walked to Celeste’s side as he said, "My love, it’s not worth getting angry over something so trivial."
He wrapped an arm around Celeste’s shoulders, pulling her closer and whispering, "So her coffin lid wasn’t shut tight. Since she’s alive again, we just have to put her back where she belongs. Don’t worry about one Jocelyn Grant. Even eight or ten of them wouldn’t be a big deal."
’One is already more than annoying enough.’
’Eight or ten more?’ A chill shot straight up her spine.
Celeste Grant quickly clamped a hand over his mouth. "Hey! Don’t you jinx us! Don’t say such things! Bad predictions have a way of coming true, you know! One Jocelyn Grant is already more than enough trouble. If eight or ten of them appeared, the sight alone would make me go blind. No, absolutely not! I’m afraid I’d lose my appetite for good!"
At her words, an image of Jocelyn Grant’s face flashed through Javier Sinclair’s mind. He frowned slightly, a genuine sense of unease rising within him.
His gaze shifted to Celeste’s face. ’As expected, looking at my wife is the only way to cleanse my eyes.’
’One Jocelyn Grant was already deeply unsettling. Even I would have to draw the line at eight or ten. The sight truly would be blinding.’
He couldn’t help but nod at the thought.
"You’re right, my love. That would indeed be terrifying." It wasn’t that she was formidable, just purely and utterly repulsive.
His gaze shifted back to Celeste’s face, and he couldn’t resist asking, "You mentioned that Jocelyn Grant is a Princess of the Golden Crow Clan. What’s that all about?" He paused after asking.
Then it hit him.
’It was a month ago, on the night of our daughter’s full-month celebration. That was the night I sensed the aura of a Golden Crow.’
’So it was her?’
Their eyes met, and Celeste Grant knew he’d figured it out.
Celeste Grant nodded slightly.
"That’s right, it was her."
Javier Sinclair fell silent.
’He knew of the Golden Crows, and he knew they had to be from Empyria. He just never imagined the one that had descended to the Lower Realm was actually Jocelyn Grant.’ He couldn’t help but remark, "It’s true, then. She really is everywhere."
"And she’s got a new identity this time."
She was one of the Celestria now.
"Mhm," Celeste Grant nodded lightly. "She does. Now she’s a Princess of the Golden Crow Clan, a bona fide daughter of a Divine Monarch. Say what you will, but she’s got a powerful father to rely on. It almost makes me a little envious."
’To be honest, she wouldn’t have minded having a powerful parent to rely on either. It’s just that her biological parents were from her old home, Earth, and they were just ordinary people. They had disappeared without a trace when she was very young.’
’They were said to be missing, but they were most likely dead.’
’It wasn’t that she was hoping they were dead. It was just an educated guess. Her family had been quite wealthy back then, so it was possible her parents had met with foul play when they went out. If they were dead, who knew where they might have been reincarnated by now.’
’Best to just let fate take its course. If she and her parents were truly fated to be family, perhaps that bond could be renewed someday. Maybe one day in the future, they would meet again.’
Just as she was thinking about her biological parents, she heard Javier Sinclair’s voice.
He said, "That Golden Crow’s bloodline is so impure. How can she be a Princess of the Golden Crow Clan with a bloodline that weak? The Celestria in Empyria truly are declining with each generation. Since when did the Golden Crows of the Ancient Times stoop to consorting with common Morvanes?"
"Haha, what are you talking about!" Celeste Grant laughed. She glanced up at Javier Sinclair and said softly, "What do you care if her bloodline is pure or not?"
Javier Sinclair nodded.
"You’re right. It has nothing to do with me." As he finished speaking, he seemed to recall something and lifted his head. "However..." he trailed off for a moment, then added, "I did just think of a possibility."
"Oh?" Celeste Grant raised an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued. "Well, out with it. What did you think of? You’ve got me curious now."
"It’s nothing important."
The moment he said that, Celeste Grant shot him a look. "If it’s not important, why bring it up? Just spit it out already."
Javier Sinclair said, "I just had a thought about Jocelyn Grant’s identity."
’Jocelyn Grant’s identity?’
’She’s already one of the Celestria. What other identity could she possibly have?’
Just as her curiosity was piqued,
she heard Javier Sinclair say in a soft voice, "Well, I’ve heard that the Divine Monarch of the Golden Crow Clan in Empyria has a harem full of wives and concubines—all sorts of flowers and birds, you might say."
Celeste Grant: "..."
’Is that the important part?’
"Why are you telling me all this gossip? Get to the point."
"Think about it." He glanced at Celeste and continued, "Jocelyn Grant has a very weak Golden Crow Bloodline, but a very strong Morvane aura. This means her birth mother was probably not a Golden Crow, but a Morvane. Logically, after she was born, she should have taken the true form of a Morvane, just like her mother. For her to have inherited the Golden Crow Bloodline at all is quite something. To use a saying from Terrus, it’s like a sparrow transforming into a phoenix on a branch—a meteoric rise to power."
"Huh? Now that you put it that way, I get it." After hearing Javier’s explanation, Celeste Grant couldn’t help but click her tongue.
"If that’s the case, she’s got some ridiculously good luck."
"A Celestria clan like the Golden Crows must put a great deal of importance on their bloodline. So for someone like Jocelyn Grant, who was originally just a Morvane but became a Golden Crow... even with a diluted bloodline, her ascension is a case of ’when one person rises, their whole clan rises with them’ for the Morvanes. The status of a Princess of the Golden Crow Clan versus a princess of the Morvane clan is like heaven and earth."
