Chapter 461 - 459: Do You Like Being Good?
JINGLE-JINGLE, JINGLE-JANGLE~
The sound of a pellet drum rang out clearly.
The daughter in Celeste Grant’s arms followed the pellet drum in her hands with her eyes, cooing every so often.
Celeste Grant spoke to her in a low voice.
"Do you like it, sweetie?"
"Heh heh, Mommy has this too. Look." As she spoke, Celeste Grant put away the pellet drum, and another small toy appeared in her hand.
It was a hand rattle for a child to grab and play with. The bells hanging from it were shaped like five ancient Banebeasts.
A gentle shake produced a jingling sound. The carving and craftsmanship alone made it look like a priceless work of art.
She picked it up and gave it a shake, and the rattle chimed.
Looking at the rattle in her hand, she smiled and said, "Your father’s woodworking skills are truly incredible. To think he can make these little trinkets so exquisitely beautiful."
If you thought what Javier Sinclair made were just ordinary toys, you’d be mistaken. They were forged from the highest quality refining materials and embedded with an Array. Not only could they be used as toys for his daughter, but they also served as Defense Treasures.
Speaking of which, her two children might have really taken after their father. Both her son, Aaron Sinclair, and her daughter, Elise Sinclair, had a natural affinity for these strange and wonderful things right from birth. ’Then again,’ she mused, ’it’s not so strange when you consider they have the blood of the Demon God in them.’
The courtyard where Celeste Grant was located had a superb view, with small bridges over flowing water, pavilions, and terraces—an elegant sight to behold.
Tables and chairs were set up in the courtyard, along with various Spirit Fruits.
She sat at a table, playing with her daughter.
"Haha, my little bun."
"Over here, over here."
This was the heartwarming scene that greeted Javier Sinclair when he arrived.
When Celeste Grant looked up, her gaze met his gentle one. Holding the baby with one arm, she waved to him with her free hand. "Come quickly! Our daughter loves the little toys you made for her."
"Really?"
Javier Sinclair’s eyes lit up, and he walked over to Celeste Grant’s side. Stopping beside her, he lowered his head slightly to look at the daughter cradled in her arms.
"Daddy’s here, my sweet little girl."
As he spoke, Javier Sinclair bent down and took the toy from Celeste Grant’s hand. He dangled it in front of their daughter. The one-month-old baby didn’t understand much, but her eyes followed the toy before her. The child was a bit wary of strangers. She wouldn’t cry when Celeste Grant or Javier Sinclair held her, nor would she cry when held by the Third Elder or Celeste Grant’s two maids. But if anyone else tried, she would cry incessantly.
She was always well-behaved when Javier Sinclair held her, often falling asleep right in his arms. Perhaps she was fond of the Power of Malakor emanating from her father. It must have made her feel comfortable and safe.
Looking at his daughter, Javier Sinclair reached out and gently stroked her hand.
Then he lightly ran his fingers through her hair.
"She’s so good."
He was overjoyed.
It was no wonder he had longed for a daughter; she was just too beautiful. ’If I carry her around like this,’ he thought, ’all those guys without daughters of their own will be green with envy.’
"Let me hold her."
Celeste Grant hummed in agreement.
"Alright."
She lifted the baby and handed her to him.
Javier Sinclair reached out and carefully took her. He then paced back and forth in front of Celeste, muttering and cooing to the baby.
Seeing this, Celeste Grant simply smiled.
Javier Sinclair looked up at Celeste Grant and said, "My dear, for the banquet tonight, let’s wear matching outfits when we enter."
Celeste Grant raised an eyebrow. "Oh? A family set?"
He blushed, a little embarrassed, and said, "Something like that. Ahem, don’t overthink it. It wasn’t my idea—the First Elder said that since it’s our daughter’s one-month celebration, red would be a suitable color to wear."
Celeste Grant didn’t expose his little scheme. ’So the Archfiend gets embarrassed too,’ she thought.
From what she knew of him, the father of her children rarely wore any color besides black or white unless he considered the occasion truly important. His usual attire was either white embroidered with gold or black embroidered with gold. He occasionally wore navy blue, but as for red... the last time he’d worn red was for their wedding ceremony, when they became Taoist Companions.
She had never seen him wear red as part of his daily clothes. The thought made her feel a little excited. With this in mind, Celeste Grant said, "Red, you say? Now that you mention it, my love, I’m quite looking forward to it."
Javier Sinclair felt a bit uncomfortable under her gaze. He raised an eyebrow. "Where exactly are your eyes looking?"
"Where do you think?" Celeste Grant propped her cheek on her hand. Before he could respond, she stated matter-of-factly, "My eyes are looking right through your clothes, at your abs."
Javier Sinclair: "..."
He blushed and averted his gaze.
"You really have no filter! The baby is still here!"
Celeste Grant chuckled.
"It’s fine. She can’t understand us anyway."
Javier Sinclair’s heart began to race, his face flushing from her flirtatious gaze. He looked at Celeste Grant sitting there, then glanced at his daughter, before telling a maid to take the baby away.
"Take the child for now."
"Yes, The Exalted One."
After taking the baby from Javier Sinclair’s arms, the maid bowed slightly and withdrew.
"Hey? Why are they taking her away?"
Celeste Grant stood up.
"I wanted to play with the baby a little longer."
"Don’t be hasty. Your husband has something to say to you."
As he spoke, a large hand wrapped around her waist, and Celeste Grant found herself pulled into a firm embrace. Javier Sinclair had hugged her from behind. He bent down slightly, resting his chin on her shoulder and speaking close to her ear.
"What did you want to say?"
The moment she finished speaking, she heard Javier Sinclair say, "You keep looking at me with those flirtatious eyes. I believe that means *you* have something you want to say to *me*, my dear."
’This is definitely him turning the tables on me, isn’t it?’
Celeste Grant’s eyes widened in disbelief. She turned around in his arms to face him directly. Leaning in close, she whispered, "*I* was looking at *you* flirtatiously?"
He hummed in affirmation.
"Mhm."
"That’s a baseless accusation. Who was looking at you flirtatiously? Do I seem like that kind of person?"
The next moment, he casually pulled open his lapels, revealing his firm chest. He took her hand and placed it over his strong heart. He lowered his head, his face now very close to hers.
"How about now?"
The hand resting on his chest moved subconsciously.
’At this moment, my hand seems to have a mind of its own.’
"Well, now... a little flirtation might not be out of the question."
He leaned closer to her.
He whispered her name.
"Celeste Grant."
"Mhm."
He wrapped his arms around her waist and called to her again.
"My dear."
Celeste Grant tilted her head up, wrapped her arms around Javier Sinclair’s neck, and rose onto her tiptoes to give him a light peck on the lips. But just as she tried to pull away, he chased her lips with his, and the two embraced, kissing once more.
He gently lifted her by the waist, carried her into the bedchamber, and pressed her against the door, still kissing her.
His kiss was dominant, fierce.
But that fierceness was laced with the utmost tenderness.
