Chapter 415 - 413: The Archfiend, You’re a Father Again (2)
In the Mortal Realm, the common person couldn’t afford to read, primarily because books and paper were simply too expensive. They had no concept of printing; books were painstakingly copied by hand by scholars. Consequently, most people remained illiterate.
The Cultivation World, however, had magic for papermaking, making book reproduction a trivial matter. But in the Mortal Realm, creating paper with magic was the stuff of fantasy. This was where movable type printing came in, along with a papermaking method that mortals could actually use.
As it happened, she had just the book for it. All she needed to do was transcribe it into a language they could understand and compile it into a new volume. She was idle anyway, so she figured she might as well do a good deed for the world.
「The next few days.」
Celeste Grant was busy with this project. She not only transcribed the method for papermaking but also wrote down the process for movable type printing, compiling both into a set of books. Afterward, she had the Bloodfiend Den disciples take a trip to the Mortal Realm to capture... no... to *bring back* a group of old scholars.
She would have these men learn the arts of papermaking and printing from her. Once they mastered the skills, she would send them back with instructions to promote the techniques, ensuring that one day, everyone would be able to read and write.
When the old scholars from the Mortal Realm were first brought back, they were all terrified. The cultivators who had escorted them looked like vicious thugs who were not to be trifled with. They feared that one wrong move would be the end of them.
One of them mustered his courage and asked.
"Excuse me, Immortals, where are you taking us? I have a helpless infant grandson at home to care for."
Hearing this, a Demon Cultivator shot him a look.
"Don’t you have a son and daughter-in-law? Does your grandson really need *you* to look after him?"
The Demon Cultivator sneered and said, "Just follow us, old man. Stop asking so many questions. And a friendly reminder: we’re not Immortals. I’m a Demon Cultivator. You know what a Demon Cultivator is? *Hee hee hee...* The kind of bad guy who enjoys capturing people for Soul Refining. CHOMP."
His words scared the scholars half to death.
Someone nearby stepped forward and kicked the Demon Cultivator to the ground. "You again, Sam Warren! Stop scaring people for fun!"
The one who did the kicking was a female cultivator. Instead of getting angry, the man she kicked just grinned. "Heh heh, I was just messing around. I’m not interested in mortal souls anyway. The old coot was just being a pain in the ass."
The Demon Cultivators didn’t care what their captives thought. So, during the entire journey, several of the old scholars believed they would never return, that they would never be reunited with their families again. One by one, they fell into despair.
Only when they were herded before Celeste Grant to begin their lessons did they finally understand the reason for their abduction. They knew that mastering these skills and bringing them back to their world would be a great boon to all of humanity, so they studied and memorized with desperate fervor until they had truly learned everything.
By the time Celeste Grant had them sent back, a month had passed. After that, she no longer concerned herself with the affairs of the Mortal Realm.
In all that time, Javier Sinclair had not returned.
「That night.」
While Celeste Grant was meditating, she found she couldn’t quiet her mind. An inexplicable restlessness plagued her, the kind that made her feel short-tempered for no reason. This irritable mood had persisted for several days, and she blamed it on the fact that Javier Sinclair still hadn’t returned.
As Celeste Grant meditated on the bed, her thoughts drifted to Javier Sinclair, who still hadn’t come back. She couldn’t help but grit her teeth. ’He promised he’d be back soon, but it’s been a whole month and not a peep from him.’
’So frustrating.’
She trailed off, her brows furrowing slightly as she mumbled to herself, "Strange... why have I been so irritable lately?"
She touched her forehead when, suddenly, a thought struck her like a flash of lightning. ’It couldn’t be... could it? If it is what I think it is, that would be a wonderful surprise. After all, I’ve wanted a daughter for so long and never conceived.’
At that thought, Celeste Grant’s gaze drifted downward, eventually settling on her stomach. She placed a hand on her lower abdomen and closed her eyes. And there it was—she could sense an aura, one connected to her very own bloodline.
’It’s my child’s.’
"This is..."
She snapped her head up, her eyes filled with uncontrollable delight. Celeste Grant couldn’t believe she was actually carrying a child. The pregnancy was likely still in its early stages, making the bloodline resonance very faint, but she was certain. She was truly pregnant.
"This... Hah... haha... I’m really pregnant!"
"I couldn’t have imagined that, could I? Let me check again."
Celeste Grant murmured, checking one more time. The unique bloodline resonance she shared with the child in her womb was still there. In that moment, she finally believed it: she was truly with child. ’No wonder I’ve been so irritable lately, feeling like I could snap at anyone. It was because I’m pregnant. I suppose it’s true that some pregnant women have mood swings and get easily agitated.’
Stroking her lower abdomen, Celeste Grant whispered softly.
"Baby."
"My sweet child."
The corners of her lips curved upward, unable to contain the joy on her face. ’So this must be what it feels like to be a mother.’
A faint, gentle smile touched Celeste Grant’s lips as she murmured, "I wonder if it’s a boy or a girl... No, no, it has to be a girl, my sweet little girl. That way, I’ll have one of each." After all, she already had her son, Aaron Sinclair; now she longed for a daughter.
Her heart filled with joy.
Celeste Grant couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
"Welcome, my child."
’If this baby is a girl, she and Javier Sinclair will have a daughter who’s sure to be beautiful. I wonder what she’ll be like? No matter how she looks, she’ll be my precious treasure.’
She recalled how Javier Sinclair had always wanted a daughter, a wish that had never come true. ’If he knew I was pregnant now, he’d probably be so happy he’d act like a complete fool.’
Thinking of him, Celeste Grant whispered.
"Archfiend, you’re going to be a father again."
Lowering her head slightly.
Celeste Grant broke into a joyous smile.
"You have to grow up big and strong, my sweet one."
"Sigh."
"It’s a shame he doesn’t know."
At that moment.
Celeste Grant desperately wanted to share this joyous news with Javier Sinclair.
Suddenly, she remembered the Ancient Mirror she possessed. It was a Divine Artifact.
"That’s right, I have Miro!"
’Javier Sinclair is in the Upper Realm right now. I wonder if I can use the Ancient Mirror to contact him. It would be wonderful if I could.’
With that thought, Celeste Grant stretched out her hand, and the round Ancient Mirror materialized in her palm. She gently brushed her fingers across its surface and said, "Miro, can you let me see your master? He’s in the Demonic Domain right now."
As soon as she finished speaking, a voice emanated from the Ancient Mirror. "That is possible, Mistress. Please wait a moment. As long as the Master does not use the Divine Artifact’s power to perceive the past or future, it will not cause you any harm."
The voice faded.
The Ancient Mirror in her hand lit up with a soft chime, expanding in size.
"Mistress, please close your eyes and try calling for the Master."
"Miro is the Master’s Companion Divine Artifact, so it is indeed possible for you to see him, Mistress."
