Chapter 458 - 456: Daughter, This Is Her Good Daughter
As he spoke, Javier Sinclair leaned down and placed a kiss on her forehead. When he lifted his head, he gently stroked her hair and said in a low voice, "You’ve been through so much, my wife."
Hearing this, Celeste Grant glanced at him. She smiled slightly and squeezed his hand in return, saying softly, "I’m fine. But you... I know you were in a lot of pain all night." Her gaze fell to his forehead, where his hair was still damp. She reached out and gently brushed it aside.
"It must have been hard on you."
Her voice was light, but her tone was gentle.
Javier Sinclair froze for a moment, slightly embarrassed. He gently took her wrist and said in a hushed voice, "How could it have been hard on me? You were giving birth to our child. As your husband, it was the least I could do."
’There was a saying, crude but true: if you don’t cherish your own wife, someone else will. A man has to dote on his own woman.’
At that thought, he took her hand and pressed it to his cheek, the corners of his lips curving up slightly. "It didn’t hurt."
She rolled her eyes at him.
"As if I wouldn’t know whether it hurt or not."
He chuckled softly.
"It only hurt a little."
Seeing her concern, his heart softened. He said in a low voice, "Don’t worry. Your husband is the Demon God—immortal and indestructible. A little pain like that is just a scratch. Compared to the injuries I sustained during the God-Demon War in the Ancient Times, this was truly nothing."
’He regretted it as soon as the words left his mouth. His wife had just given birth to their daughter. Why was he bringing up the past at such a happy time, talking about dreadful things like the God-Demon War?’
Celeste Grant raised an eyebrow and stared at him.
’Ancient Times? The God-Demon War?’
’Just from those few words, she could hear the weight of bygone ages. So, just how long had her child’s father been alive?’
Her fingers gently caressed his face, her fingertips tracing through his hair and lightly hooking a loose strand. Celeste Grant looked up at him, her curiosity getting the better of her. "My husband, exactly how long have you lived?"
Hearing this, Javier Sinclair raised an eyebrow.
He flicked a finger and gently tapped her forehead, leaning in close. "How long have I lived? Are you asking because you think I’m old? Or do you find your husband’s age off-putting?"
’Find his age off-putting?’ Celeste Grant’s gaze fell on the stunningly handsome face before her. ’With a face this young and beautiful, she was definitely the lucky one.’
She poked his cheek, unable to stop herself from laughing. "Flaunting a face like this, no one could possibly find you off-putting."
Javier Sinclair blushed! He was delighted to hear her undisguised affection.
She urged him.
"Come on, tell me. How long have you lived?"
He glanced at her and said in a low voice, "If you must know... I’ve existed since the dawn of chaos. Back then, I spent most of my time asleep. Every time I woke, thousands, or even tens of thousands, of years would have passed. After that came the Ancient Times. So, I have lived for a very, very long time—so long that I’ve forgotten the exact duration. If I had to give you a number, it’s been over a hundred thousand years from then until now."
When he finished speaking, Celeste Grant fell silent.
She was stunned for a moment, murmuring, "Over a hundred thousand years..." The sheer scale of that number made her gasp. "That really is a very long time," she whispered.
’Back when she still believed in science, if Javier Sinclair had told her he’d lived for over a hundred thousand years, she would have thought he was insane. She’d probably have suggested he make an appointment at a psychiatric hospital to get his head checked.’
’As for now, though!’
’Celeste Grant felt her capacity for acceptance was excellent. Forget over a hundred thousand years—if Javier Sinclair told her he was nothing but a wisp of smoke, she’d believe him.’
Javier Sinclair nodded slightly. "It is indeed a long time to be alive." At this, his gaze shifted from her face to the child. Looking at his daughter’s soft little face in her bundle, he smiled, his eyes filled with adoration. "Now that I have you both," he said softly, "I suddenly feel as if all my previous years were lived in vain." He would protect this hard-won warmth.
Celeste Grant smiled.
"Then what were you like before? What were the Ancient Times and the God-Demon War like?" ’Even though now wasn’t the best time to discuss it, she couldn’t help her curiosity now that he’d brought it up.’
Javier Sinclair said in a low voice, "The past... there isn’t much to tell." He glanced at her before continuing, "The Ancient Times were a primordial world. There was no Immortal Realm or Demon Realm back then, only all kinds of Innate Great Demons and Innate Spirits. It was a chaotic era of Gods and Demons."
His voice was soft, but in his brief description, Celeste Grant could glimpse the glory of that era. The very fact that Javier Sinclair had survived from then until now was a testament to his formidable power.
Seeing her curiosity, he added a few more words. "War is always cruel, no matter the era. Countless Ancient Gods fell after the God-Demon War. A new order was then established, one that has lasted until today."
Celeste Grant considered that Javier Sinclair was the supreme Demon God of the Demon Realm, which meant he must have been present at its founding. Realizing this, she asked, "Does that mean you had a hand in the establishment of the Demon Realm?"
"Yes."
He nodded slightly.
"Those who wouldn’t submit, I fought. I fought my way through until I had unified the Demon Realm." In short, when he finally looked back, everyone behind him was on their knees.
She gave him a thumbs-up.
"One word: ’Powerful.’"
"Let’s not talk about that anymore. Look at our daughter." She gazed at the baby in her arms and said softly, "Isn’t she adorable?"
"Mhm." He agreed, his gaze fixed on the baby in her arms. Javier Sinclair stared at his newborn daughter, his heart melting at the sight of the tiny infant. ’This is my daughter. She seems so quiet... so very small.’ She was so tiny he didn’t dare try to hold her.
"My husband, would you like to hold her?"
At her words, Javier Sinclair’s eyes lit up. He started to reach out but stopped himself. "She seems... a bit awkward to hold," he said in a low voice. "I’ll wait until she’s a little bigger."
"Haha, you’re being so cautious."
Celeste Grant laughed.
Her gaze shifted to their daughter. She reached out to gently stroke the baby’s hand, then her fingers brushed through her hair. The child had a full head of beautiful, jet-black hair, despite being a newborn. Her face was fair and clear, and with her tiny features—a tiny face, a tiny mouth, a tiny nose—she was as adorable as a little snowball.
While in the womb, the baby had been nourished by Celeste’s own Spiritual Power. That was why she was born so fair and beautiful, not red and wrinkled. But the child wasn’t just beautiful; she had been born with Divine Power protecting her from the very start.
’She was so adorable; just looking at her was enough to melt one’s heart.’
Celeste Grant smiled and gently touched her baby’s tiny hand.
"Sweetheart, I’m your mommy."
"My daughter is so adorable."
