Chapter 363 - 361: Donating the Family Fortune, Returning to the Cultivation World (Part 4)
"Mom."
Her voice caught in a sob as she spoke.
She took a step forward.
And then another, until she stood right before her.
The woman froze. "You... what did you call me?"
"Mom."
Once she’d said it, she suddenly realized that saying the word "Mom" wasn’t as hard as she’d imagined. It just came out naturally.
The blind woman stared blankly, as if she’d forgotten how to react. Her hand instinctively reached out, fumbling until it grasped Nana Warren’s arm. "Who are you? Why... why are you calling me Mom?"
"Mom... it’s me, Mom..."
As she spoke, Nana Warren wrapped her arms around her.
"I’m your real daughter."
Suddenly being hugged and called "Mom," the blind woman’s guide cane CLATTERED to the ground. Her mind went completely blank.
’What is she saying?’
’What is this girl talking about?’
’This girl says she’s my real daughter. How is that possible?’
"Mom, I’m your daughter. I didn’t die." The woman in her arms looked dazed. She murmured, "Didn’t... didn’t die... Really?" Perhaps she knew her daughter was already dead, but now someone was telling her she wasn’t. For a moment, she desperately wanted to deceive herself, to believe her daughter truly hadn’t died.
’No... she isn’t my daughter.’
’But why does hearing this child cry make my heart ache so much? It feels just like she really is my daughter, like my daughter has come home.’
"No... you’re not my daughter."
"Why are you pretending to be my daughter? What are you after?"
Nana Warren held her.
She gently wiped away a tear, then let go and said, "Mom, let’s find somewhere else to talk. This isn’t the right place. But please, believe me. I really am your daughter."
Hearing this, the blind woman looked lost and confused.
’She must be a liar.’
’But a voice in her heart told her, what could anyone possibly get from scamming a blind woman who has nothing? Could she be telling the truth?’
As if guided by an unseen hand, she found herself nodding. "Alright. My place is just up ahead. If you don’t mind, you can come sit for a bit."
As she spoke, she crouched down, fumbling on the ground for her guide cane.
The woman’s eyes looked like they had been blind for many years.
Nana Warren had always thought her own life was hard, but looking at this woman, she couldn’t help but wonder how she had survived all these years in such darkness.
She quickly bent down to help her up, picking up the guide cane for her.
"Let me help you."
"Thank you."
Celeste Grant glanced at them and said, "Let’s go to her home first."
Aaron Sinclair and his father walked over.
"We’re coming too."
Aaron Sinclair was already by Celeste Grant’s side. His gaze shifted to the blind woman, and he held out his hand, a vibrant green Elixir Pill resting in his palm. Before anyone could react, he grabbed the woman’s chin and shoved the Elixir Pill into her mouth.
Simple and crude—the classic style of a Demon Cultivator.
The woman, terrified and unaware of what was happening, tried to spit out the Elixir Pill she had swallowed. But it dissolved the moment it touched her tongue, transforming into a stream of energy that flowed into her body.
"Who... what did you make me eat?"
Aaron Sinclair took a step back and dusted off his hands. "Definitely something good. Your eyes will get better after eating it. You’re lucky to get an Elixir Pill this Young Master refined back in the day. Most people could never hope to have one."
Given the woman’s frail condition, she wouldn’t have been able to withstand an ordinary Elixir Pill. Only this gentle Clarity-Restoring Pill he had refined was suitable for her.
Celeste Grant and Leo, who was supporting the blind woman, both turned their gazes to the woman who had taken the pill.
"Son, what kind of strange Elixir Pill was that? Are you sure it’s okay?" What she really wanted to ask was whether it would kill someone.
It wasn’t that she doubted him, but her son had a track record. The Elixir Pills he refined only led to two outcomes for those who took them: ascending to heaven, or ascending to the Immortal Realm.
"How could it not be?" Aaron Sinclair said with a smug look. "Mom, this is a new Elixir Pill I researched and developed in the Cultivation World. I named it the Clarity-Restoring Pill. The quality is absolutely guaranteed! You can question my character, but you can’t question my Alchemy skills, hehe."
Celeste Grant smiled and patted him on the head. "Look at you, getting so cocky. You have to remember, there’s always someone better out there. We need to be more low-key when the situation calls for it."
Aaron Sinclair rubbed his head and grabbed her wrist. "I know, Mom. From now on, your son will be the king of laying low."
’Good heavens! He even knows a term like "king of laying low,"’ Celeste thought. ’It seems my son has learned quite a bit in this world. Or rather, he’s probably watched a lot of anime about it.’
She stroked his head.
"Such a good son."
"Does that even need to be said? I’ve always been Mom’s good little boy," he said, leaning his head against Celeste Grant’s shoulder like a spoiled child.
His own father, standing to the side, couldn’t watch anymore. He reached out, grabbed his son by the shoulder, and pulled him back. "How old are you, still clinging to your mother like that? You should be ashamed."
As he spoke, he wrapped an arm around Celeste Grant’s shoulders. "Celeste, you can’t spoil him like this."
Watching the father and son battle wits, Celeste Grant couldn’t help but chuckle. "You’re one to talk. You two are exactly the same, a pair of overgrown children."
"I am not," Javier Sinclair said, holding her close. "Do I look like that kind of person to you?"
The son, who had been pulled behind them, put a hand on his hip and rolled his eyes. "Dad, you’re a grown man competing with a kid like me for Mom’s affection."
He raised his hand and used the Silence Technique.
And then, young Aaron Sinclair discovered he couldn’t speak. He pointed at himself, a speechless expression on his face. ’My own father lost his memory, but he sure didn’t forget this trick.’
’What a troll. A total troll move.’
Just then, Javier Sinclair reached a hand behind his back and flashed a peace sign at his son.
Aaron Sinclair let out a dry laugh.
’Look at him, so proud of himself.’
Life for their family of three was always this interesting.
Of course, it would be even better if his parents would give him a little sister. He’d been hoping for one since he was little, and now he was sixteen. Still no sign of a sister. When it came down to it, his dad just wasn’t trying hard enough.
’My little sister, my dear, chubby little baby sister... when will I finally have you?’
Thinking this, he shot his father a look of bitter disappointment.
Javier Sinclair glanced back at him, a questioning look on his face. ?? ’Why is this kid being so dramatic?’
In front of them,
The blind woman covered her eyes, letting out a small sound.
She felt a faint ache in her eyes, as if a warm current was circulating through her entire body before rushing straight to her head.
Before, her body had been plagued by illness, but now she felt a power repairing it from within. The sensation was incredibly comfortable. Her eyes, especially, had begun to feel dry and sore, but after the pain subsided, she saw a glimmer of light.
