Chapter 453: Close Combat
’’My proudest accomplishment will be having meet her and make her part of my life, she is my rock, my queen, without her support I’ll be lost.’’ ~Nero Adams...

The morning light filtered through the curtains, soft and golden, casting a warm glow across the room. Nero stirred, his arm still wrapped around Khione, her head resting on his chest. The day had been eventful, the exhaustion of their intense sex washed away by deep, dreamless sleep.
He opened his eyes and found her already awake, her ice-blue gaze fixed on him with a look that was equal parts contentment and mischief. Her hand was tracing lazy patterns on his chest, her touch light, almost teasing.
"Good morning," she said, her voice low and soft.
"Good morning," he replied, his own voice rough with sleep.
She smiled—a rare, genuine smile that softened her features and made her look younger, more vulnerable. "I have a surprise for you."
He raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"
She leaned in and kissed him, slow and deep, her fingers threading through his hair. The kiss said everything words could not—gratitude, affection, the quiet joy of waking up beside someone you loved. When she pulled back, her cheeks were flushed, and her eyes were bright.
"That was the surprise?" he asked, a smile tugging at his lips.
"The first part," she said. "The rest is for later."
He laughed, a low, warm sound, and pulled her close. They lay together for a while longer, not speaking, just enjoying the quiet intimacy of the morning. The sun climbed higher, the light growing brighter, and finally, reluctantly, they rose.
Nero prepared breakfast—simple fare, eggs and bread and fresh fruit—and brought it to the bed on a small tray. They ate in comfortable silence, their hands occasionally brushing, their eyes meeting over the rim of their cups. The food was warm, the tea fragrant, the company perfect.
After breakfast, they took a bath together, the water hot and soothing. They washed away the last remnants of the previous day’s battle, their movements slow and unhurried. He washed her hair, his fingers gentle, and she returned the favor, her hands firm and sure. There were no words, only the quiet intimacy of shared space, shared warmth.
An hour later, they stood in the back mountain, dressed in training gear. The sun was high, the sky clear, the air cool. The rocky terrain stretched before them, dotted with sparse pines and scattered boulders. It was a good place for training—isolated, challenging, free from distraction.
Khione held her wand loosely at her side, but she had set it aside for this session. Today, she would learn something different. Nero stood across from her, his hands empty, his stance relaxed.
"Close-quarter combat," he said. "You’re a mage. Your strength is in your spells, your distance, your control. But there will be times when you can’t keep your distance. Times when an enemy gets too close, when your wand is knocked away, when you need to defend yourself without magic."
Khione nodded. "I understand."
"Good. Let’s start with the basics."
He stepped forward and began to teach. Stance first—feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, weight balanced. She copied him, her movements careful, precise. Then movement—how to step, how to pivot, how to shift her weight to generate power. She was a fast learner, her body responding to his instructions with fluid grace.
"Defense next," he said. "Blocking, parrying, redirecting. You’re smaller than most opponents. You can’t match strength. You have to use their momentum against them."
He demonstrated, his movements slow and deliberate. She watched, then tried to copy him. He corrected her stance, adjusted her arms, guided her through the motions. Her brow was furrowed with concentration, her lips pressed together in a thin line.
"Good," he said. "Now, offense. Striking."
He taught her how to throw a punch, how to generate power from her hips, how to keep her wrist straight. She practiced on a training dummy, her blows growing stronger, more confident.
"Now, combine them," he said. "Defense into offense. Block, then strike. Parry, then counter."
They sparred, slowly at first, then faster. She was a natural, her body adapting to the movements with surprising speed. She blocked his strikes, parried his attacks, and found openings to counter. He pushed her, forced her to react, to think, to adapt.
By midday, she was holding her own. She was not a master—not yet—but she could defend herself against a low-level knight. Her movements were fluid, her reactions swift. She was no longer just a mage. She was a fighter.
He decided to add another element. "Conjure a small ice dagger," he said. "Use it as a weapon."
She raised her hand, and a blade of ice formed in her palm, its edge sharp and gleaming. She tested its weight, its balance. Then she attacked.
The training continued, her dagger flashing in the sun. She struck, parried, countered, her movements growing more confident. She was learning not just to fight, but to fight with her law integrated into her movements.
Finally, late in the afternoon, they stopped. They were both tired, their bodies slick with sweat, but satisfied. Khione dismissed her ice dagger and leaned against a boulder, her chest heaving.
"Not bad," he said.
She gave him a look. "Not bad? I was magnificent."
He laughed. "You were."
They built a small fire and cooked a simple barbecue—skewers of meat and vegetables, seasoned with herbs they had brought from the hotel. The food was warm, the company warm, the evening cool and peaceful. They ate in comfortable silence, watching the stars begin to appear.
When they finished, they packed up and walked back to the city. The night was dark, the streets quiet. Her hand found his, their fingers interlacing.
"Thank you," she said. "For today. For teaching me."
"Thank you for learning," he said.
They walked on, their steps steady, their hearts full. The mission was complete. The training was done. And they had grown stronger together.
’’Hehehe! You should give me more reward like the one last night. It was a wonderful surprise I admit it.’’ Nero decided to tease her, the Ice Queen’s ears reddened despite her expression remaining cold, she rolled her eyes at him finally and muttered a single word.
’’Pervert!"
Nero laughed in response before princess carry her as he ran into the distance, she nuzzled into his embrace while listening to his heartbeat as she mumbled.
’’You are my everything and I’ll be your everything. I’ll stand together with you until death do part us.’’ a solem vow he appreciated and would reciprocated.
