Chapter 394: Freedom of the Fallen
Lilith frowned, wiping the blood from his blade, as Cain stood limping in front of him. "What are you doing..."
The Fallen smiled, tilting its head. "What do you mean? Isn’t it obvious we’re fighting?"
Lilith gripped his blade, screaming. "You know damn well what I’m saying. You’re just running into my attacks... why? If you wanted to get captured, you would have said so, so then what are you doing?"
Cain chuckled, raising his blade and pointing it towards Lilith. A terrifying blade, filled with eyes, and made out of pure flesh, yet sharp enough to compete with his Bearer blade. It was eerie how the eyes moved, staring into your eyes.
"I’m not doing anything," Cain said, more under his breath, before dashing forward, swinging his blade like a madman.
Any master that would see his style would be able to end their life from how terrible it was. There was no rhythm to it, no dance, no flow. He was just moving his arms around, and yet, it was harder to predict than anything he had seen.
Maybe because Cain himself didn’t know what his next move was going to be, he couldn’t describe his style; it was like a Demon that had betrayed any principle of the blade. Using it in ways that it was never designed to be used.
The blade ripped a part of Lilith’s face before the boy could get away. But once he did, he quickly tried kicking Lilith straight into his liver, but the Fallen was faster, catching his foot and cutting it with its claws.
Lilith screamed in pain as both prepared their next attack, their blades facing each other in the process.
Staring into each other’s eyes, Lilith managed to smile. "Did you get stronger, or is it just me?"
The Fallen pushed. "It’s just you."
Backing away, both quickly dashed forward, their blades meeting once more. And again.
’I’m getting matched in swordsmanship... how is that even possible for someone who hasn’t even held a blade for around two years now...’
Lilith pulled away, letting go of his blade with one hand, and prepared to punch, but before he could pull his hand back, Cain noticed and pushed in through the gap and delivered a huge slash with his claws to his chest, before backing away and twisting his blade to slash his torso in two.
Lilith groaned as he barely dodged the attack. Backing away instantly.
’Something isn’t right... I was dominating the beginning of this battle; he’s in a condition beyond rough, I’ve cut and punched him so many times, and yet he’s still standing... how? I don’t get it!’
Cain glanced towards him with the corner of his eye, before turning to face him with a wicked smile. "I have to say, I don’t like your style of fighting at all; you keep running away."
Lilith dismissed his blade, letting it back into his Core. "You’re one to talk; your style of fighting is nothing else but disgusting." He said, smirking.
Cain opened his mouth and put his hand over it, trying to act offended. "Yeah, no, I don’t really care."
...
"Have you fought with Aether?" Lilith’s eyes widened as he heard his comment. "I have... why?... and what’s your obsession with Aether, like seriously?"
Cain didn’t respond; he just let his blade back into his Core and waited for Lilith to respond. Seeing this, Freedom sighed. "I have, and I beat him up good, and yet he somehow survived. Interesting, right? Though his pride is quite crushed, since it’s almost like he has completely forgotten about his past; he’s a student now, like a high noble from the Blue Rose, and soon will just be another pawn for the King, just like you."
The Fallen didn’t speak again, which was annoying Lilith. He just slowly walked towards him, with no intention behind any of his steps, so he waited until he was in range and prepared to punch his gut.
...
But the moment his marks first lit up, Cain dashed and caught him by his neck, and raised him up in the air. "You’re pretty strong," Lilith said, not trying to escape, even with Cain’s claws slowly digging in his neck. "But this won’t work, and you know it. So what reason do you have?" He smirked, as his marks started to glow, his foot ready.
"You’re going to come back, right?" Cain asked, and then waited. There was nothing else, just a question, one Lilith had no idea why he had asked.
"Of course, it’s not like I hid the fact that I won’t stop until winter comes-"
"And if you don’t manage to do it until winter?" Lilith’s eyes widened, before smirking once more. "I will, I know I will. But to cure your curiosity... they will probably send someone else to do it in my place, since I will have better things to do. Why do you ask? Will you miss me?"
Cain let go of him before backing away into the shadows.
"Wrong... if you don’t manage to do it until winter, then that will be the reason the Blue Rose loses the Withered, and my home will finally get its freedom."
Lilith scoffed at Cain’s absurd claim. "You’re saying that you will challenge the whole of the Blue Rose alone. There have already been two Rebellions; both failed. What is it with you guys? The Third will never work."
A chuckle was heard from the shadows. "Who says I will be alone?"
...
"And who says I was done with our battle?" Lilith said before dashing into the shadow, swinging his blade around, but there was nothing. The darkness was completely empty. The Fallen was nowhere to be seen.
Lilith sighed. "And I’m the one who runs away..."
...
He put his hand on his chin. "Not alone..." He chuckled. "Aether, huh... that’s who you’re trying to get to help you... I doubt it, Cain... Aether doesn’t even know who you are... so good luck."
