Pei Shaosen also did remarkably well, living up to his father’s expectations and efforts. He was diligent in his studies and had talent, earning the affection of all his teachers from childhood.

Pei Shaosen passed the child student exam at ten, became a Scholar at thirteen, placed in the provincial exam at sixteen, married his mentor’s daughter at seventeen, and at twenty, he came first in the imperial examinations, entering the Hanlin Academy.

After coming first in the imperial examinations, he was granted a period of leave to visit his parents back home and build a Champion Scholar Temple and Champion Scholar Arch in his hometown. It can be said that Pei Shaosen’s future was very promising.

Just after Pei Shaosen returned home, his friend from the imperial examinations, Qian Jing, suddenly visited him.

Qian Jing, who had a decent appearance and earned a Second Class, was warmly received by Pei Shaosen. However, that very night, robbers broke into the Pei residence, and the entire family was slaughtered.

Pei Shaosen was the first to die and became a ghost. While powerless to stop the robbers, he witnessed them and learned that his friend Qian Jing had brought these robbers and opened the door for them.

After looting the Pei family’s property, the robbers and Qian Jing split the spoils and fled.

The Pei family perished in an instant. It was the local government and those villagers who had benefited from the Pei family who helped collect the bodies, place the tablets, and take turns sweeping the graves and offering incense.

Thanks to those who didn’t forget the Pei family’s kindness, Pei Shaosen, turned into an Evil Spirit due to the brutal death of his family, wasn’t overwhelmed by hatred and didn’t start a killing spree indiscriminately.

However, the Pei’s old residence became deserted due to the tragic deaths within, and no one dared to move in, leaving it to become an abandoned house where Pei Shaosen was trapped.

Pei Shaosen’s obsession was simple: to avenge his family, and his enemy was Qian Jing and those bandits who murdered the Pei family.

The lead man knew who Qian Jing was, the National Academy Sacrificial Officer, a prestigious position with students all over, seemingly noble but in fact well-connected.

However, the lead man wasn’t afraid. He directly told Pei Shaosen, "Sir, this matter can be easily handled. When I return to the Capital City, I will immediately help you deal with it.

Rest assured, I promise to handle this thoroughly, ensuring none of your enemies escapes, making them all pay for your family’s lives."

The man dared to say this because of his special identity; although his official position appeared low, he was part of the Dragon Wei Guard.

Within this dynasty, the Dragon Wei Guard was an organization that every court official feared but dared not offend, established by the Grand Ancestor, only taking orders from the Emperor as his trusted aides.

The greatest responsibility of the Dragon Wei Guard was to secretly monitor officials, arrest and interrogate corrupt officers, and even assassinate those whom the Emperor couldn’t openly deal with.

The lead man held a significant position within the Dragon Wei Guard; dealing with a National Academy Sacrificial Officer was easy, not to mention their exceptional skill at uncovering secrets.

Since Qian Jing had such a criminal background, investigating along this line wouldn’t fail to find his little braid. Once discovered, it could be reported to the Emperor, leading to Qian Jing’s arrest and interrogation.

Arresting Qian Jing and relying on the torture skills of the Dragon Wei Guard would uncover the identities of those bandits from the past, catching them all at once, resolving Pei Shaosen’s vendetta.

Although Pei Shaosen’s case had happened long ago, fifteen years earlier, for the Dragon Wei Guard, uncovering the truth was merely a troublesome matter.

Pei Shaosen couldn’t have imagined that his long-standing grudge could be resolved so easily. He was a bit skeptical, fearing it was merely an excuse for the others to escape.

Qi Shuangshuang said to Pei Shaosen, "If you’re not assured, I can establish a contract between you two. If breached, there will be a punishment, and upon completion, the contract will automatically dissolve. How about it?"

Compared to a verbal agreement, a contract would ease Pei Shaosen’s concerns. He immediately bowed in gratitude towards Qi Shuangshuang, "I would trouble you, Master, to arrange this."

Qi Shuangshuang lifted her hand, and with her index finger, drew talismans in the air. Under her finger, a complex set of talismans appeared out of thin air. Unlike simple talismans, these were often used to curse foes or establish contracts.

Once the talisman formed under Qi Shuangshuang’s hand, it immediately split into two, with one half entering the lead man’s body and the other half entering Pei Shaosen’s body.

After the talismans disappeared into both, the contract was automatically established, and both parties felt its power and became aware of the consequences of breaching it.

Upon signing the contract, the cost of breaching it was different for each individual, but it was undoubtedly the price that each least desired to pay.

Feeling the contract complete, Pei Shaosen immediately thanked Qi Shuangshuang with a deep bow, "I, Beixie, am deeply grateful to the Master for your assistance.

However, I am now alone with nothing at all and cannot even become a servant for you, Master. I can only wish that in the next life, I can repay your kindness properly."

Qi Shuangshuang chuckled softly, "If you truly wish to repay me, you don’t need to wait for a next life. I’ve come looking for an accountant. Once your grievance is settled, come work for me as an accountant."

After Qi Shuangshuang finished speaking, she extended her hand, and a finely crafted wooden token appeared out of nowhere in her palm. She tossed the token, and it fell before Pei Shaosen, who instinctively caught it.

Lowering his head to examine the wooden token, Pei Shaosen couldn’t discern its material; it was cold to the touch and felt more like fine Jade than wood.

The wooden token’s design was exquisite, with hollowed patterns along its edges. Yet the top design was peculiar, depicting blood-red skulls guarding a sinister-looking door.

At the center of the token were the characters ’Yin Yang Inn,’ and below these four characters were five smaller ones, ’Accountant, Pei Shaosen,’ suggesting it was an Identity Token.

Just as Pei Shaosen was about to inquire about the nature of Yin Yang Inn, he found that at some point, Qi Shuangshuang’s silhouette had disappeared.

In a sudden panic, Pei Shaosen searched everywhere, yet couldn’t see even a shadow. Had it not been for the token in his hand, he would have doubted whether such a person even appeared!

At that moment, Pei Shaosen, dead for over a decade and turned into an Evil Spirit, shivered involuntarily, feeling eerie; who was the real ghost here with such stealth? Frightening a ghost to death!

While Pei Shaosen was scared, the remaining individuals in the courtyard were truly terrified; this powerful master had vanished suddenly, leaving them facing an Evil Spirit, with fear and apprehension in their eyes.

Would the Spirit recall the incident where they burned his wife’s tablet and tear them apart in a fit of rage?
