The people in the house were all very surprised to see the two unexpected guests.
Alice Turner expected the visitor to be Thomas Fisher, but what she hadn’t anticipated was that he would bring his father, Cedric Fisher, along, and they even brought gifts.
"Mayor Fisher! Please have some tea."
Seeing Cedric Fisher and Thomas Fisher arrive with gifts, Sophia Wood immediately guessed the purpose of their visit. This was exactly what she had been hoping for, and she felt happy, though outwardly she remained calm.
Cedric Fisher nodded politely to Sophia Wood, then corrected her title for him, "We’re at home, so no need to call me Mayor."
He didn’t specify what she should call him, as long as it wasn’t Mayor. After all, she was to be his son’s future mother-in-law.
"Alright! Let’s not stand on ceremony." Meeting the real-life Mayor for the first time, Sophia Wood felt somewhat nervous, but she handled herself graciously when facing her daughter’s future father-in-law.
Now that her mother and his father were exchanging pleasantries, Alice Turner felt extremely helpless, uncertain of what to say in the moment.
Thomas Fisher glanced at Alice Turner before turning his gaze to Sophia Wood, "Auntie, my father and I are here to propose today. I’ve wanted to do this for five years, but I didn’t get the chance before Alice left without a word."

Sophia Wood had barely started her response when Alice Turner abruptly interrupted and rejected Thomas Fisher’s proposal.
Alice Turner’s sudden refusal caught Sophia Wood off guard, leaving her momentarily speechless.
Thomas Fisher had anticipated Alice Turner’s rejection, so he was not surprised—only sad and hurt.
Cedric Fisher had also foreseen this outcome and understood why Alice Turner resisted. He maintained a calm demeanor, "Alice, I understand your reasons for opposing this, and I can empathize with your actions. However, I hope you won’t go through with it."
"If I’m not mistaken, you still love Thomas, and he loves you too. Since you both love each other, I think you should be together and not worry about anything else."
He spoke at length, expressing everything he wanted to say, believing these were words his son wished to utter as well.
Sophia Wood was pondering how to persuade Alice Turner when Cedric Fisher beat her to it. His words echoed sentiments she had wanted to express but hadn’t yet figured out.
"Alice, your Uncle Thomas makes a good point. You and Thomas love each other and belong together. Five years have already been wasted, let’s not prolong this." Compared to Cedric Fisher, Sophia Wood spoke much more bluntly and directly.
She knew Cedric Fisher was courteous due to his status, but as a mother, she felt no need for such delicacy, as this concerned her daughter’s future.
"Auntie, it’s not Alice’s fault. Five years ago, it was my failure that led to her disappointment and departure." Before Alice Turner could respond, Thomas Fisher spoke up first.
