Chapter 392 - 172: New Game World, Instantly Subduing Over a Dozen Superhero Allies
「The real world.」
Three weeks had passed since the invasion by the Game World. On the blue planet, the inheritance of game abilities had also been underway for slightly more than three weeks.
In a certain pitch-black basement, a disheveled human player once again opened his crusty eyes. He rummaged through a mountain-like pile of goods on a nearby shelf—what must have been a food storage rack before the apocalypse—grabbed a random bag of food, and tore it open. After quickly finishing his meal, the man carelessly tossed the wrapper aside and slowly sat down in front of a glowing monitor, where a game was running on auto-pilot.
"To hell with Cyan God!"
"To hell with the Immortal Emperor!"
"To hell with Taiyi Zhenren!"
"You all just wait until I've accumulated enough power to be Invincible, then I'll come out of seclusion and wipe the floor with you!"
He glanced over at a sticky note next to his computer monitor. A few names were scrawled on it, and the man muttered them viciously under his breath.
In his mind, the only reason these people were famous on the Forum was because he had not yet made his grand debut. And the reason he hadn't made his debut was, of course, because the game he'd inherited just so happened to be one he could still log into and play.
Three weeks ago, the man had just gotten off a night shift and, drowsy with exhaustion, had fallen straight asleep. Being so tired, he didn't get a chance to choose which game to inherit. As a result, he was randomly assigned one that he had played a few times before—a game where he'd gotten lucky in a draw, becoming a "lucky player" and receiving official support equivalent to a million in Krypton Gold.
Then, when the chaotic era began and the world expanded with countless monsters appearing to slaughter humanity, the man discovered that the building he was in had, miraculously, plunged into the earth as if in an earthquake. He thought he was a goner, but thanks to the cushioning from a springy mattress and a sofa, he found that he had somehow survived.
Most importantly, after surviving, he discovered that his floor, the 18th, had connected with the 19th floor above and the 17th floor below. He then found that the 19th floor housed a server—the very server for the game he used to play and had been randomly assigned. Meanwhile, the 17th floor was a warehouse filled with all sorts of food and daily necessities.
The man had been sleeping soundly in his bed, only to be jolted awake when the entire building plunged underground. As for the other residents, they had either already fled or had kicked the bucket in their rooms.
He confirmed that there were generators on other floors of the sunken building and that fresh air could still flow down from the stairwell opening on the top floor. The man went straight up the stairs to the top floor and sealed off the point where the sunken building met the surface with an iron grate. Then, all alone in the world, he began his new life in the building that had fallen into the earth.
Because the entire building was buried underground and completely sealed by the surrounding earth, no monsters randomly spawned around him during the ability inheritances of the first two weeks. Although the man had fallen underground, this had paradoxically made him much safer.
A few days later, once he confirmed that—aside from the game abilities that had already been inherited and were now fixed—any abilities not yet inherited could still be improved within the game, he became ecstatic. Before the apocalypse, his life had been a daily grind, leaving him little time for games. But after the apocalypse, fate had smiled upon him, granting him such a coincidental environment and opportunity.
And so, the man holed himself up in the underground building, where his daily work consisted of playing and grinding the game. He desperately focused on improving his in-game abilities, saving up for his ultimate move.
Through some calculations, the man had figured out that it would take about eight weeks for game abilities to be fully inherited into reality. What he had to do was simple: before those eight weeks were up, he would ferociously grind the final, most powerful, and still-upgradeable ability he'd chosen all the way to its limit. To that end, he remained holed up in the building, keeping a low profile, doing nothing but sleeping and grinding the game every day.
Moreover, for the three ability inheritances so far, aside from the initial random one, he had chosen to inherit his weakest attributes for the other two. For example, he picked categories like "Miscellaneous" and "Game NPC." He chose to save the stronger attributes for later so that he could continue to rapidly improve his abilities within the game.
The game he'd been randomly assigned was one with a relatively small world; it would take just a few hundred hours to max out its abilities. Because of this, the man was holding his breath, so to speak, grinding the game day in and day out. He was just waiting for the eight weeks to end, at which point he would emerge with his newly inherited invincible abilities. Then, he would stomp on Cyan God, punch the Immortal Emperor, and crush everyone in his path!
From some posts on the Forum, the man had already discovered that on the day the ability inheritance began, ninety-nine percent of games had become inaccessible. A case like his, where someone could still log into their game completely unaffected, was unheard of on the Forum. Therefore, the man felt this was a gift from the heavens.
Before the apocalypse, he had worked like a dog every day. But after the game abilities began to be inherited, his luck had finally turned! While others were suffering grueling attacks from monsters and monster tides, he was quietly hidden underground, diligently improving himself.
He had a dream: he would push his in-game abilities to their absolute limit. Then, making his return like a triumphant king, he would appear before all the other players...
"HOLY SHIT!!"
"WHERE DID IT GO!!!"
