Chapter 650: People Changed, Things Remain
The sleek black motorcycle sped down the road.
Zhang Yiming wore a motorcycle helmet, looking very much like he was the real deal.
The speed appeared to be eighty miles per hour.
In reality, it was only half of half of that.
That is, if you ignored Leng Yebai pedaling beside the motorcycle and Bai Yifan gliding on a skateboard.
Zhang Yiming looked like an emotionless racing machine.
At last, at long last.
Zhang Yiming finally couldn’t take it anymore.
He stopped the bike, and under the stunned gazes of Bai Xiqin and the others, he tied the bicycle and Bai Yifan to the back seat of the motorcycle.
The speed finally picked up a little.
Bai Yifan, tightly gripping the rope, felt like he was flying while sliding on his skateboard.
Leng Yebai, pedaling away, no longer felt any resistance...
Over two hours later, the speed of the motorcycle dropped, and the group soon arrived at Sheep Village.
From afar, Sheep Village looked like the quiet little village it always was.
Only the Bai Family knew the village was not as peaceful as it appeared.
Last time, the Bai Family had saved many survivors; now, Li Mucheng should have corralled many more.
The motorcycle quickly came to a stop, and Zhang Yiming placed his helmet on the bike, preparing to walk in.
Leng Yebai parked his bicycle beside the motorcycle, silently pulling out a heavy lock to secure it in place.
Bai Yifan placed his skateboard next to the bicycle and, after some thought, used a rope to tie it to the bike.
Afraid someone might steal the snacks from his backpack, he locked it in the motorcycle’s trunk and took out the bronze sword.
Holding onto a weapon gave him a slight sense of security.
"You’re not locking it?"
Leng Yebai glanced at Zhang Yiming.
"No need."
Zhang Yiming flicked his hair back, glancing at Leng Yebai locking his bike, his mouth twitching slightly.
Is something wrong with this guy?
In the apocalypse, who locks a bicycle with yarn?
What would zombies want with a bike?
Leng Yebai ignored Zhang Yiming’s strange look, finishing locking his bike before entering the village.
"Is the person inside? Can he sense your presence?" Bai Xiqin asked Zhang Yiming.
"Inside, but as long as I hide, he can’t sense me," Zhang Yiming replied.
As for brainwaves, he hadn’t encountered anyone stronger than himself.
The initial brainwave frequencies of the sea creatures were daunting.
However, when he saw the Zombie Whale, his thoughts and brainwaves both advanced to a higher rank.
Zhang Yiming’s gaze fell on Bai Xiqin, his eyes softening significantly.
It’s protection.
He wanted to protect someone forever.
No matter the time, no matter the place.
Being a king on land was far from enough.
The concept of "protection" meant nothing to zombies.
But for him, because of the power of protection, he grew stronger and more steadfast.
"That’s good." Bai Xiqin smiled and looked at Bai Yifan, "Are you ready? You must hit the Zombie King hard when the time comes!"
Bai Yifan nervously gripped the bronze sword in his hand, subconsciously covering it with his superpower.
The sword emitted a faint yellow glow, with touches of the unique phosphorescence of bronze embroidery.
Though in Bai Yifan’s hands, it looked like a large, cheap glowing toy with no intimidating power.
"No."
Bai Yifan shook his head vigorously.
"Looks like you’re ready. You’re in the lead, good luck!"
Bai Xiqin pushed Bai Yifan to the front.
Bai Yifan immediately looked back at Zhang Yiming and Leng Yebai for help.
Hoping they would say something on his behalf.
Sis must be crazy, right?
He’s just a First Rank Superpower User, why let him fight the Zombie King?
"Good luck."
Seeing Bai Yifan’s pitiful expression, Leng Yebai calmly uttered two words.
"You can do it."
Zhang Yiming was slightly better than Leng Yebai; he smiled gently and added a word to his encouragement.
But Bai Yifan felt that Brother Zhang’s expression was like someone having their last meeting with him.
Bai Yifan rolled his eyes silently.
Fine, these two can’t win against Sis.
He could only keep moving forward into the village on trembling legs.
At this moment, only this greenish, bronze-embroidered sword could give him a little comfort.
"Roar――"
A sudden zombie roar rang out.
Bai Yifan immediately pointed his sword forward, looking for a while before spotting an ordinary elderly zombie in the wild grass beside them.
The elderly zombie had a basket on its back, its rotting fingers clutching a sickle that was blindly swinging in the air, occasionally cutting down some weeds.
The elderly zombie’s stiff, rotting fingers clawed in the air twice before barely grabbing a piece of grass and tossing it symbolically into the basket.
It missed, and the basket was still empty.
It didn’t seem discouraged, continuing to swing the sickle.
Its blood-red eyes remained fixed on the group.
For the flesh before it, its mind craved to devour it, yet it didn’t lunge at Bai Xiqin and the others.
A suppressive growl came from its throat, revealing it was nearing its breaking point.
Bai Xiqin could sense that for a moment, those eyes were no longer vacant.
It was Li Mucheng, using brainwaves to "see" it all.
"Isn’t that old man?"
Bai Yifan looked in shock at the elderly zombie wielding a sickle.
When the Bai Family first entered Sheep Village, this old man was here cutting grass.
Only at the time, he wasn’t a zombie but a living person.
His son was the village’s Zombie King.
So why did he become a zombie?
The Bai Family didn’t know that after they left with the survivors, Li Mucheng turned his own father into a zombie.
Now, the native inhabitants of Sheep Village had all been turned into zombies by Li Mucheng.
A village full of zombies, in a way, was uniformly consistent.
"The Zombie King did it, look at its neck; it’s the same as all the villagers."
Bai Xiqin noticed the elderly zombie had two rotting holes in its neck, similar to all the zombie villagers with bite marks.
"This..."
Bai Yifan was stunned, his eyes full of disbelief.
He couldn’t understand.
That was his father. Why would he turn his father into a zombie?
Old Mr. Li had once been a proud father, stubbornly believing his son was the most accomplished.
But now...
"Keep moving inside!"
Bai Xiqin didn’t attack the elderly zombie because at that moment, Li Mucheng, through the zombie’s eyes, had seen them.
Their target was Li Mucheng, not to break things open now.
They feared being surrounded by zombies before they could reach Li Mucheng.
Seeing Bai Xiqin and the group not attacking, the elderly zombie also refrained, mechanically repeating its grass-cutting motion.
Its body turned slightly to follow the group’s movement, its eyes never leaving their backs.
Once they disappeared from view, the elderly zombie’s eyes went vacant again, unfocused, instinctively continuing to cut grass.
Swish swish swish――
Wild grass fell to the ground.
But its stiff body wouldn’t bend down, and its rotting fingers couldn’t pick up the grass from the ground.
