Chapter 662: East Sea
Bai Yifan, sitting in the driver’s seat, listened to their conversation and shook his head slightly.
He pressed the accelerator lightly and drove straight toward the two zombies not far ahead.
Bang!
One zombie was sent flying by Bai Yifan, while the other roared and chased the bus, its face twisted terrifyingly.
Bai Yifan slowly let out a breath, feeling a bit relieved as he saw the lone zombie in the rearview mirror.
Indeed, those fed with heartbreak can only feel better after venting it out.
Bai Yifan silently glanced at Bai Xiqin and Leng Yebai, who were chatting together, then continued to squint at the zombies in the distance.
Bai Yifan had developed another compulsion.
An even number of zombies must be hit until it becomes odd!
The bus crashed and bumped continuously along the way, only stopping by the sea when the sun was about to set.
The seawater appeared deep blue, not polluted in the slightest by any zombie animals.
The sea was vast, capable of containing so much, even the terrifying zombie virus.
Zombies and normal fish swam freely in the ocean.
There were no zombies near the sea, but occasionally, some stranded marine creatures could be seen on the beach left by the receding waves.
Among these marine creatures, now and then, some rotting yet still twitching zombie fish could be seen.
They were tiny and appeared harmless but could infiltrate any gap.
If one accidentally stepped on them and happened to be bitten through their shoes, they would be infected with the zombie virus.
The small fish bodies were hollowed out nearly entirely, yet they remained "alive" because their heads were hard, and nothing leaked out from within.
It was time for lunch.
Bai Yifan sensibly decided not to get off the bus. It was almost dark, and it was time to replenish some energy.
The bus’s freezer was well-stocked with various semi-prepared foods previously prepared, making Bai Yifan’s cooking relatively simple.
Boiling water and cooking them would suffice.
Leng Yebai and Bai Xiqin, along with Water Python Qin Yuan, headed to the beach, hoping to figure out the direction the Base Commander had gone.
Under Qin Yuan’s guidance, they came to a man-made platform.
This platform had been there for a long time and was part of a cash-grab tourist attraction, where one could ride a jet ski for a spin.
One could also board a boat from here to leave.
The Base Commander disappeared here, and not even Qin Yuan and Water Python could trace his next steps.
The vast sea stretched to the horizon, connecting to several other major oceans.
There was no telling where the Base Commander went.
Neither his destination nor his reasons for heading to the sea were known.
Although the land was already considered dangerous, even though his superpower was strong, he shouldn’t have ventured to the sea.
Unless... it was unavoidable.
"Zhang Gong went to the South Sea, so why did he head to the East Sea?"
Leng Yebai gazed at the blue sea, frowning deeply, suspecting that the Base Commander’s actions were related to Zhang Gong.
Zhang Gong had arrived at the safe base and left, of which both Bai Xiqin and Leng Yebai were aware. He never mentioned anything about going to the sea, only that they were headed to Kunlun Mountain.
So why did the Base Commander head to the East Sea now?
Did Zhang Gong return to the safe base, or did the Base Commander discover something else and silently head to the East Sea?
Bai Xiqin couldn’t fathom it.
She once thought she’d gained ample survival experience after three years in the apocalypse.
But as she traveled more and broadened her horizons, she realized her perspective was that of an ordinary Superpower User.
She saw zombies and the scarcity of resources.
And another phenomenon that’s impossible to ignore and hard to explain now confronted Bai Xiqin.
In addition to zombies, some incredibly powerful creatures appeared. Calling them mutant animals isn’t incorrect, as they seemed to increase only after the apocalypse.
However, their presence also lingered in folklore, suggesting they might not be a coincidence.
Then there’s the underwater world.
The sea was even more vibrant; unknown creatures abounded, and ever since the energy tides, more and more bizarre and power-laden creatures emerged.
These things could only be seen by the powerful; those remaining at the safe base would only see terrifying zombies, missing out on Earth’s subtle transformation into an unrecognizable new landscape.
Earth was becoming more mysterious.
Just as Bai Xiqin and Leng Yebai were staring blankly at the East Sea, Bai Yifan’s voice came from afar.
"Sis! Brother Leng! Dinner’s ready! Today we’re having dumplings!"
Bai Yifan’s voice was loud and vibrant without any hoarseness.
Bai Xiqin’s face twitched sharply upon hearing Bai Yifan’s shouting.
Her little brother, of course, couldn’t be hit. He wasn’t very bright in the first place; hitting him would make it worse!
In such a dangerous world, her little brother shouting for her to eat was... too naive!
Three plates of dumplings were already set on the table, hand-made and frozen in the freezer; Bai Yifan boiled them directly in hot water.
The ingredients came from the spatial space; the dumplings were cooked in sour soup using Spiritual Spring Water, delicious to the last bite.
Bai Xiqin gave Water Python Qin Yuan two dumplings each and sent them into the space.
"Sis, there are two more plates in the kitchen; they’re all yours. Let me know if you can’t finish!"
Bai Yifan blinked, then buried himself in eating.
He cooked five plates of dumplings: one for him, one for Brother Leng, and three for his sister.
Normally, that would be enough for everyone.
If his sister suddenly lost her appetite, Bai Yifan wouldn’t waste them and could eat a few more dumplings himself; besides, his sister wouldn’t usually leave much!
"Okay."
Bai Xiqin ate the dumplings with small mouthfuls.
Her mouth might be small, but she could eat a lot!
While eating dumplings, Leng Yebai seemed absent-minded, occasionally glancing outside the vehicle’s open door.
The door remained open, as if the Base Commander might spot the bus and join them for dumplings!
"Oh! Everyone’s having dumplings?" A rich, hearty voice called from the door.
The three hadn’t had a chance to see who it was before a strong scent of seafood wafted in.
It was like they had suddenly been transported to a seafood market!
The three turned in unison toward the door, spotting an old man outside the bus, dirty yet clean...
He looked clean, but his clothes were tattered, wearing long sleeves despite the summer heat, with fabric hanging in strips.
He seemed dirty, yet his clothes, although old, were cleaned thoroughly, not dirty at all.
Before them stood a ragged old man, white hair and beard, yet full of vigor.
He looked robust.
"Sir, who are you?"
Bai Yifan looked at the old man, beaming with curiosity, feeling the old man looked familiar.
Standing there, his aura and speaking style felt particularly like Uncle Wang!
An old man just like Uncle Wang.
His intuition told him this old man wasn’t someone to mess with!
"My surname is Li; just call me Uncle Li!"
Uncle Li’s eyes fixated on the dumplings held by Bai Yifan’s chopsticks, with suspicious fluid trickling from his mouth.
"These pork and scallion dumplings, you added plenty of scallions! Smells just right!"
Uncle Li rubbed his fingers together, starting to retrieve something from his belongings.
