The entrance of Yunhua Safety Base.

Xiao Li had a faint smile on his face as he watched Fang Yuanyuan and her companions approach; his expression remained indifferent.

In front of outsiders, he always appeared so calm and natural.

"Seeing you all again, I didn’t expect you to be friends with Miss Yuanyuan. Delighted to meet you!"

Xiao Li extended his hand at the right moment, bowing his head slightly.

His superpower was even stronger than Leng Yebai’s, yet his demeanor was like that of Fang Yuanyuan’s bodyguard, without any pretense.

Leng Yebai casually extended his fingers, gave a slight squeeze, and then withdrew his hand.

"It’s cold, let’s go and come back early. This mission isn’t hard; it’s just scouting some zombie nests."

Xiao Li spoke calmly, as if this trip was as routine as eating or drinking water for him.

Those zombies in hiding aren’t much of a threat!

Bai Xiqin glanced around, noticing no one else was participating in this "mission."

Though called a mission, it wasn’t posted in the task hall of the safety base.

It was merely Fang Yuanyuan’s scheme to get Bai Xiqin out.

Bai Xiqin didn’t mind. After all, coming out openly made it easier to observe.

Moreover, she could earn a Second Rank Crystal Core, so why not!

Even a small mosquito leg is still meat!

"Then let’s go!"

Fang Yuanyuan could hardly suppress a smile, her heart pounding fiercely.

She had a hunch this trip would lead her to find Xiao Ming; she really hadn’t seen him in ages...

Even before the apocalypse, Fang Yuanyuan used a thesis as an excuse to contact Zhang Yiming.

Zhang Yiming was the class president, the student council president, and a top student. Asking him about the thesis and then getting closer... it was all going to plan.

But Xiao Ming was exceptionally righteous; he didn’t want to help classmates "cheat," nor did he want to help her analyze the thesis.

He only replied with one sentence: do your own work.

Since then, Fang Yuanyuan felt very guilty.

She regretted resorting to the thesis excuse to get closer, which certainly made Xiao Ming think she was a poor student.

Discussing a thesis equaled copying homework, and Xiao Ming, being principled, surely despised such behavior.

However, Fang Yuanyuan didn’t know Zhang Yiming’s principles didn’t apply to everyone.

Xiao Li led the three to a large wooden platform.

The platform had a sail standing upright like a sailboat, and the huge canvas flapped in the icy wind.

The deadly cold wind couldn’t move the platform without the support of superpowers.

Once they were on board, Xiao Li politely handed over some ropes.

"Hold onto this, be careful not to fall."

The ropes were tied with several knots, and Xiao Li thoughtfully covered the rough surface with some soft cloth.

So it wouldn’t hurt their hands.

After grabbing the ropes, an invisible wind centered on Xiao Li blew around them.

The wind billowed the canvas on the platform, and it soared forward under the wind’s force.

The platform’s speed increased, eventually matching a car’s speed as it rushed forward.

This mode of gliding was stable but energy-consuming, yet Xiao Li remained effortlessly composed.

His superpower level was very advanced.

Leng Yebai took a step toward Bai Xiqin, holding the rope with one hand, while the other was poised protectively behind Bai Xiqin.

Fang Yuanyuan glanced at the handsome Leng Yebai, with a cold smile on her lips.

He seemed to protect her well, yet Bai Xiqin, who followed him, couldn’t even get a decent meal?

Just infatuated with a pretty face!

Fang Yuanyuan touched her own face, noticing how, after becoming a superpower user, her skin had turned paler, and her features had become more defined.

She considered herself prettier than Bai Xiqin, yet whenever she stood beside her, everyone gravitated toward Bai Xiqin, leaving her unnoticed.

It frustrated her to no end.

"Miss Yuanyuan, are you hungry? Have an egg."

Xiao Li pulled out two still-warm eggs from his pocket, handing them to Fang Yuanyuan.

Fang Yuanyuan caught the eggs, swallowing instinctively.

Eggs were precious commodities; even as Captain Fang’s daughter, her special treatment only afforded her slightly better meals than the average person.

Resources were exceedingly scarce, and even before the Alliance was established, Zhang Gong and Captain Zhang hadn’t provided the upper echelon with many privileges.

Living conditions were superior to most, yet feasts were a rarity.

Fang Yuanyuan’s weekly ration included two eggs, along with some vegetables and meat, which couldn’t compare to pre-apocalyptic meals.

"I’m so tired of eating this stuff every day, here, you take it!"

Without looking at the eggs, Fang Yuanyuan handed them to Bai Xiqin dismissively.

Her gesture was one of disdain.

But internally, she was heartbroken.

Still, the act of "granting charity" gave Fang Yuanyuan a sense of thrill.

It made her feel superior to Bai Xiqin.

"I don’t like them either, just throw them away!"

Bai Xiqin raised an eyebrow and, before Fang Yuanyuan could stop her, casually tossed them away.

The two eggs drew a perfect arc in Fang Yuanyuan’s eyes before landing in the snow pile.

"Bai Xiqin! You—"

Fang Yuanyuan almost couldn’t resist retrieving them, but to maintain her superior image, she forced herself to look away.

Xiao Li, still manipulating the wind, glanced thoughtfully at Bai Xiqin.

This young girl was much shrewder than Fang Yuanyuan.

"What’s wrong? Didn’t you say you got tired of them too?"

Bai Xiqin flashed an innocent smile, appearing guileless.

Her big innocent eyes blinked, as if unaware of the fact she had just discarded something most people in the apocalypse couldn’t afford.

"But you can’t just throw them away; giving them to someone else would be better than wasting them!"

Fang Yuanyuan took a deep breath, her expression still sour.

"I’ll remember next time."

Bai Xiqin grinned broadly.

Fang Yuanyuan turned her head away, ignoring Bai Xiqin.

There won’t be a next time.

She would never part with two eggs for Bai Xiqin again unless she lost her mind!

"Roar—"

A zombie suddenly lunged forward, scattering snow everywhere.

The snowflakes sprayed high, enveloping the zombie, adding a touch of ethereal beauty to it.

"We’re nearing the central area of Shanghai; zombies are common there, be careful, Miss Yuanyuan."

Xiao Li’s fingers twitched slightly, and an invisible wind blade cut towards the zombie.

With a splat.

The zombie’s head exploded, brain matter splattered, and the pristine snow was stained with black blood and rotting flesh.

The moment Xiao Li attacked, Bai Xiqin sensed a small energy storm gathering at Xiao Li’s fingertip.

He was likely a Sixth Rank Superpower User or even higher.

"I will be careful. By the way, Xiao Niu, have you awakened any superpower?"

Fang Yuanyuan exaggeratedly waved her hand in front of Bai Xiqin, her fingertips emitting a green glow.

Whenever she was near Bai Xiqin, Fang Yuanyuan couldn’t resist seeking superiority.

"Yes, I have just a basic Wood Ability, not as ’green’ as yours."

When Bai Xiqin said "green," her tone fell heavier.

The purity of the color when a superpower user activated their ability related to their talent; the deeper the color, the higher the talent.

Fang Yuanyuan instinctively interpreted it as Bai Xiqin’s Wood Ability emitting only a faint green light, lacking any real power!

"Yes, the world is cruel, yet fair. A weaker ability isn’t the end; luck might be on your side one day!"

Fang Yuanyuan clapped Bai Xiqin’s shoulder heavily, leaving her hand there in a gesture of consolation.

Yet inside, she scoffed.

If fortune favored her, and that pretty-faced crutch died, Bai Xiqin might end up like some women hiding in the alleys.

Struggling to survive.
