Chapter 1653 - 1529: Worshiping the Heavenly God
"Brother Feng, are you okay?" Ling Yanchen approached with concern.
"You don’t need to thank me. You’ve taken care of me for so long; this is what you deserve," Ye Qingfeng turned and said indifferently.
"You think you’re so great, don’t you? Do you know the power behind Ding Xiao? It’s not something we can provoke," Zhou Peng’s face was pale with rage.
"You self-righteous fool, do you think you’re the hero saving Yan Chen? You’re actually harming her!"
Ye Qingfeng ignored him and started to walk into the house.
But Zhou Peng quickly caught up and blocked Ye Qingfeng: "What, now you regret it? Yan Chen, this man is so vicious; he can’t be a good person. Hurry and drive him away!"
"Brother Zhou Peng, what are you saying? Brother Feng is a good person; he’s helping me!" Yan Chen said with some discontent.
"How is he a good person? His background is unknown, and he’s vicious. He might be some wicked man!" Zhou Peng was furious.
"Hmm"
At this moment, Ye Qingfeng’s body suddenly twitched, and his face instantly turned pale.
He knew he shouldn’t have acted; it was damaging to his health, but Ding Xiao was courting death, and Ye Qingfeng had lost patience.
"Brother Feng!" Ling Yanchen quickly stepped up to support Ye Qingfeng and said coldly: "Zhou Peng, go back. You don’t need to worry about my matters."
She looked at Ye Qingfeng weakly, feeling very distressed, and her tone turned icy.
Zhou Peng’s face changed drastically, shouting angrily: "Yan Chen, he’s ruined you; Ding Xiao won’t let this go."
Ling Yanchen ignored him and assisted Ye Qingfeng back to the room.
Ye Qingfeng’s injuries were still slowly healing.
Ling Yanchen continued to care for Ye Qingfeng as always, without any complaint.
This girl is pure and kind-hearted. Ye Qingfeng helped her in passing initially, and it wasn’t a mistake.
"When I leave, I’ll grant you a life of prosperity," Ye Qingfeng said calmly.
Then he closed his eyes, preparing to rest.
"Money, your money?" At this time, a sharp voice rang out.
"I don’t have money left," Ling Yanchen’s voice sounded outside.
"No money? What about the money you earned working outside?" The voice was sharp and harsh.
"I spent it all on Dad’s treatment! My money wasn’t even enough for the treatment; I have no money to bring back!" Ling Yanchen’s voice was a bit weak.
"Causing trouble again?" Ye Qingfeng gently muttered to himself.
He shook his head slightly; he really didn’t want to act now.
But living in someone’s house, helping Ling Yanchen clear some troubles seems necessary.
As soon as he stepped out the door, Ye Qingfeng saw a middle-aged woman pointing at Ling Yanchen, scolding her while Yan Chen didn’t dare to retort.
"Do you need help?" Ye Qingfeng leaned against the door and said flatly.
The middle-aged woman turned to him, frowned immediately: "Who is this man?"
"He’s someone I saved outside, named Feng Qingye," Ling Yanchen quickly said.
"I don’t care who he is; I only want money. Does he have money?" the middle-aged woman said displeased.
Ye Qingfeng frowned slightly, not wanting to waste words. He was ready to drive the woman away.
"Mom, Brother Feng is injured; he has nothing on him," Ling Yanchen said awkwardly.
Mom?
Ye Qingfeng raised an eyebrow, looked carefully, and indeed, the woman bore some resemblance to Ling Yanchen.
Sadly, the woman’s face appeared somewhat harsh.
"Don’t call me mom. If you can’t provide money, it’s disrespectful to the Heavenly God. Anyone disloyal to the Divine has no right to be my daughter."
The middle-aged woman snorted coldly, then softened, speaking lovingly:
"Yan Chen, it’s for your own good. Tribute to the Heavenly God, and he’ll bless our family’s peace and prosperity."
"Mom, I truly have no money. I spent it all on Dad’s treatment; the money ran out long ago. Luckily, a kind soul helped, allowing Dad to overcome his difficulties," Ling Yanchen’s eyes were slightly red as she spoke.
If it weren’t for the kind person named Ye Qingfeng, she’d have sold her body and might not have been able to save her father.
"Bah, I always said, your dad’s illness doesn’t need hospital care. Just pray sincerely at our Moon Worship Sect, show true heart to the Heavenly God, and he’ll recover!"
The middle-aged woman said discontentedly, a trace of contempt flashing in her eyes.
"Do you think he was truly cured by the hospital? It was my prayers to the Divine, invoking his recovery. Even though we’re divorced, he’s your father, and I don’t want him to die like that."
"The Heavenly God saved your dad. Shouldn’t you honor him with sacrifices?" the middle-aged woman said sincerely.
"I... Ah, never mind, Mom, give me a few more days; I’ll figure something out..." Ling Yanchen said softly.
"Fine, I’ll be back the day after tomorrow; start gathering the money," the middle-aged woman nodded.
Without lingering, she turned and left the yard.
Ye Qingfeng watched, bewildered, is this Ling Yanchen’s mother?
Ling Yanchen felt a bit bitter inside. By the day after tomorrow, how would she come up with money for her mother?
Turning to Ye Qingfeng, Ling Yanchen looked at him, lowered her head, and said: "Sorry, Brother Feng, for showing you this embarrassment."
"Hmm."
Ye Qingfeng nodded, said nothing, and turned back inside.
The night sky was splendid; Shanshu Village was remote, far from light pollution, making the moonlight bright and the stars dazzling.
Ye Qingfeng and Ling Yanchen sat in the courtyard, the atmosphere tranquil and relaxed.
"Tell me about the Moon Worship Sect," Ye Qingfeng spoke first.
"Brother Feng, this matter doesn’t concern you, truly you don’t need to"
"Speak." Ye Qingfeng’s tone was commanding.
Truly overbearing, the young girl felt helpless, softly saying: "The Moon Worship Sect is unique to this area; many people from nearby villages and towns believe in it. They say even district officials trust this sect, claiming it harbors Divine beings."
"My mom is one of them. From my childhood, she joined the Moon Worship Sect, donating money monthly and praying devotedly."
"When I was sick as a child, mom wouldn’t let me go to the hospital, insisted dad donate money for Heavenly God’s blessing to cure me. Later, dad divorced mom."
"Afterwards, with no income, mom sought money from me. I worked in East River City and sent money to her."
"Sometimes, when she was ill, I’d come to see her, take her to buy medicine for treatment. After recovering, she’d kneel by the bed, thanking the Heavenly God. If I bought her gifts, she’d immediately kneel to thank the Heavenly God, believing it was bestowed by him."
"Yet, all these things, are from my hard-earned money, wanting to make her happy. But in her heart, there’s only the Heavenly God."
