Chapter 79.1: What Infuriating Nonsense
After running into something like this, Yang Zhou was furious beyond words. But he quickly came back to his senses. There wasn't just one place in the academy where complaints could be filed. If calling didn't work, then he would simply go there in person.
He refused to believe there was no way to make a successful complaint!
Nan Yu looked at him. "What are you planning to do now?"
Yang Zhou snorted. "What else can I do? That residential complex is my home. I'm going to live there from now on, and unless something unexpected happens, I'll be living there for a long time. How could I possibly tolerate dangerous people like that coming and going in the neighborhood where I live?"
"You're right," Nan Yu nodded. "So you're planning to keep filing complaints?"
"Of course I am. I'll definitely keep complaining. Those two were released so quickly. I bet they have some powerful backing. They even managed to bribe people in the academy's complaints department."
"I'll help you," Nan Yu said. "Doing it alone might be troublesome."
It wasn't that success was impossible. If it truly couldn't be done, the academy wouldn't have maintained such strict discipline all these years. Most likely, those people had simply exploited a loophole. If Yang Zhou really pursued the matter to the end, the ones who would ultimately be punished would still be those who had broken the rules.
Yang Zhou then said to the person still connected through the communicator, "I really didn't expect the Royal Military Academy's student records to be managed by the complaints department. Or are you saying that even the people responsible for that area have been bribed by you? I actually have to thank you for telling me this. Otherwise, I never would have thought of it!"
"The call just now was made by you, and I recorded it. I originally planned to use it as evidence when reporting the situation to the property management so they would deal with it properly. I never expected I'd end up catching such a huge handle on you instead. Fine, if you refuse to handle things according to the regulations, then don't blame me for showing no mercy. That's all. Just wait and see!"
With that, Yang Zhou hung up and immediately blocked the number.
But after blocking it, he remembered that it wasn't the person's private communicator. It was the academy complaints department's public contact number.
After thinking it over, he removed it from the blacklist again and merely set it so he wouldn't receive calls from that number for a short period.
Nan Yu watched the unusually furious expression on Yang Zhou's face.
To be honest, the last time he had seen Yang Zhou this angry was when he talked about those trash relatives who had rushed to divide up his grandfather's inheritance the moment the old man passed away.
Thinking about it, it made sense.
After all, just as Yang Zhou had said, that residential complex really was going to be his home from now on. If he couldn't even guarantee his own safety there, how could he continue living in that place?
Not to mention that Yang Zhou wasn't the only resident there. Many family members of graduates from the Royal Military Academy also lived there, along with plenty of ordinary people who had no ability to defend themselves.
If all those homeowners learned about this incident, who knew how much longer that property's management company would survive?
Nan Yu asked, "Have you figured out what you're going to do? I'll support you the whole way."
And it wasn't just Nan Yu.
He could also ask plenty of other people to help.
Yang Zhou smiled gratefully. "Thanks, Nan Yu. I'll give them one more chance. But if the people in the complaints department keep threatening me like this, then they can't blame me for being ruthless."
When the time came, Yang Zhou would go directly to the principal and explain everything.
Of course, he couldn't meet the principal himself.
But Nan Yu could.
When that happened, Nan Yu could ask to see the principal, and Yang Zhou could go along with him.
What neither of them expected was that the people they had seen earlier actually came looking for them themselves.
After the waitress finished serving the dishes and left, the private room door hadn't fully closed when they heard a small scream from the female server.
The next second, the door to their private room was violently shoved open.
It slammed hard against the wall with a loud bang.
Nan Yu and Yang Zhou both stood up and looked at the two aggressive visitors.
They were exactly the two somewhat familiar Ability Users they had seen earlier.
Nan Yu blinked.
Looking at the way they had barged in to demand an explanation, should he say that the academy's complaints department worked remarkably fast?
Yang Zhou had only just hung up the phone, and the very next moment these two had already been notified?
Yang Zhou glared at them.
"What do you want? Planning to use violence here? Or are you going to proudly use your precious abilities right here? If you've got the guts, then go ahead and use them. I'd like to see whether I'm the one who suffers or whether you're the unlucky ones!"
The speech the two had prepared instantly got shoved back down their throats, leaving them looking extremely uncomfortable.
One of them snorted.
"Hmph. You're only acting arrogant now. Don't you want to know how we found out you were here so quickly?"
Nan Yu found it rather strange.
These two seemed to be targeting only Yang Zhou while completely ignoring his existence.
Did they know who he was and realize they couldn't afford to offend him, so they simply treated Yang Zhou as an easy target?
Nan Yu quietly took a deep breath.
For now, he chose to observe.
If they truly intended to attack Yang Zhou, he naturally wouldn't stand by and watch.
Although...
Perhaps they had forgotten that he was also a Mental Power User.
Yang Zhou sneered.
"When was I ever arrogant? Aren't the arrogant ones the two of you? You used your abilities to fight inside the residential complex before. Luckily someone stopped you before you caused any serious damage..."
As soon as Yang Zhou brought the matter up again, and because the two had burst in so violently without closing the door afterward, everyone dining outside clearly heard what he said.
The commotion had already drawn plenty of attention, and the restaurant had naturally grown much quieter.
As a result, quite a few people heard every word Yang Zhou had just spoken.
"What? You two Ability Users actually used your abilities inside the residential complex?! Is that true?"
Someone passing by happened to hear it and froze in shock.
After all, something like that had never happened before.
Yang Zhou blinked before immediately adding, "That's right, it was these two. In the middle of the night they fought over a Low-Tier Mental Power User inside the residential complex. Both of them used their abilities. If the property management hadn't been notified in time, they probably would have started fighting for real. By then, some of the apartment buildings might even have collapsed."
"And after only being taken away for a couple of days, they were already released. Even though the property management knew everything, they still let these two back into the complex!"
After saying that much, Yang Zhou stopped.
He deliberately didn't mention the academy.
He still knew where to draw the line.
He understood that only certain people at the academy had been bribed, not everyone. If he escalated the matter to the academy now, it would only make it harder for him to continue studying there.
So he exercised some restraint.
"My god... Is that really true?"
Many people immediately went to question the property management staff.
But the staff kept stammering and changing the subject.
Although that bought them some time, everyone instinctively concluded that Yang Zhou was telling the truth.
If the incident had never happened, the property management would have denied it on the spot instead of hemming and hawing like this.
The entire residential complex instantly erupted.
After all, every homeowner living there either had children currently attending the academy or had already graduated and obtained positions in various military legions. Many of them were highly capable individuals.
Anyone who could be contacted was immediately informed of the situation.
Very quickly, the property management office's communication lines, as well as the academy complaints department's communicator, were flooded nonstop with calls.
Inside the complaints department, one particular employee's face twisted viciously for a brief moment before he quickly forced a smile back onto his face and continued answering the incoming communications, repeatedly promising that the matter would be handled promptly.
But he wasn't willing to accept it.
He opened his contact list, found a certain communicator number, and sent a message.
There was only a single short line.
Yang Zhou. Student record. Major.
Less than thirty seconds later, a reply arrived.
"No problem!"
Seeing those three words, he didn't feel victorious at all.
Because...
He suddenly realized he might have acted too impulsively.
Given that person's speed, the requested task had probably already been completed before the reply was even sent.
Even if he regretted it now, there was nothing he could do.
He could only obediently pay the money.
Besides...
The other party could only enter and modify the file once. A second or third modification would be far too likely to be discovered.
Looking at the account number that had been sent for the payment, he hesitated for several seconds.
Although he regretted it and felt unwilling, there was no helping it.
The work had already been done.
In the end, he transferred the money.
After all, that person wasn't someone he could afford to offend.
And since he had already made this decision, there was no point regretting it now.
Once a student record at the Royal Military Academy had been altered, new entries could only be added.
Nothing could be removed.
In other words, whatever damaging information that person had just inserted into Yang Zhou's file could never be deleted.
Unless...
A member of the Imperial Family personally intervened, together with an official investigation report from the National Police Headquarters proving that the recorded misconduct had never actually occurred.
The most fatal part was that these records usually weren't discovered until graduation, when student records were officially transferred.
By then...
It would already be far too late.
Because by that point, many things could no longer be investigated.
People could only reluctantly accept whatever had been recorded.
Even if evidence still existed, few would bother searching for it, because obtaining an official investigative report from the National Police Headquarters was an extremely lengthy process.
Fresh graduates immediately faced recruitment by the various military legions.
If they missed that opportunity, no one knew what would happen afterward.
The lucky ones usually found only trivial offenses in their records.
Things like getting into fights.
Those were common among Ability Users.
Many of them didn't even remember when such incidents had supposedly occurred, so most simply ignored them.
But others were far more unfortunate.
For example, records claiming they had sexually harassed fellow students, maintained relationships with multiple partners at the same time, or other evidence of a chaotic personal life...
Whenever the military legions had other qualified candidates, they would absolutely refuse to recruit people with records like those.
As a result, most students carrying such entries in their files failed to enter the military legion they had hoped for.
No matter how desperately they insisted they had never done any of those things and had no idea how such records had appeared in their files, nobody believed them.
Because everyone trusted the Royal Military Academy far more.
Thanks to Yang Zhou's unexpected move, the two Ability Users who had barged in so aggressively could now only be hurriedly escorted away by the Ability Users from the property management who had rushed over after hearing the disturbance.
Regardless of how they handled things afterward, those two would definitely never be allowed into the residential complex again.
Although this would probably offend certain people within the property's management company, once the entire incident was over, quite a few employees there would almost certainly lose their jobs as well.
Nan Yu and Yang Zhou originally intended to continue eating.
However, before long, someone else entered the room.
It was the very person the two Ability Users had been fighting over earlier.
The moment he stepped inside, he blurted out—
"How can you two be so vicious?!"
...Huh?
