Chapter 24: Someone Was Targeting Him
Nan Yu frowned slightly. He didn't walk in immediately because the moment he opened the door, a cloud of dust actually rushed toward him.
He waved his hand and looked around.
The dirty room contained only a bed, a bedside cabinet, a wardrobe, and a table with a chair. There was a mattress and bedsheets on the bed, along with a thin blanket.
It looked very simple. At first glance, it really was just an ordinary resting room.
If not for the thick layer of dust.
The first person Nan Yu thought of was An Mi. Apart from him, there couldn't be anyone else. He was the captain of the Mental Power User team here. Had Nan Yu's arrival put that much pressure on him?
Did he really have to display such hostility right from the beginning?
Nan Yu certainly wasn't going to live in a room like this. Did An Mi think he would simply swallow his anger and endure it?
Impossible.
He didn't mind suffering a little, but when he had the conditions to enjoy something better, he wasn't going to force himself to endure.
Most importantly, this military base had resting rooms near the wards, meaning people regularly stayed here. Cleaning robots should be coming every day.
For a room to gather dust to this extent...
Who would believe it wasn't intentional?
He turned and intended to head back to the previous ward. Even sleeping on a chair there would be better than staying here.
But just as he was about to leave, he suddenly thought of something.
So...
Nan Yu returned to the ward.
The soldiers were sitting on his bed chatting. Since they hadn't fully recovered yet, everyone was consciously controlling their emotions.
They were surprised to see him come back so quickly.
“Hm? Why are you back? Shouldn't you be resting?”
Nan Yu frowned slightly, looking like he wanted to say something but didn't know if he should.
“What's wrong? Did something happen?”
Nan Yu sighed.
“I don't really want to say it, but the resting room has a thick layer of dust. I don't know where the cleaning robots are, so I came over to ask.”
What?
A thick layer of dust?
They had been stationed at this military base for years and had never known there was any place here that could accumulate thick dust.
“Take me there. That's impossible.”
Nan Yu blinked.
“Forget it. You should rest. It's just some dust. I'll find a cleaning robot myself. Just tell me where they are.”
But the team leader refused.
“Little Yu, take me there. It's a rare sight. I've never seen anything like it. I want to witness it.”
“We want to see too, Captain!”
Not only the captain, but all of them had never seen such a thing.
As members of Yu Lanfeng's military forces, their rules and discipline were extremely strict.
Dust-covered resting rooms?
Honestly, if the one saying this wasn't Nan Yu, they would have already thrown a punch.
Such words were practically insulting the standards and discipline of their army.
Seeing how insistent they were, Nan Yu shook his head helplessly.
“Fine, since you're all so curious, come with me. You'll understand once you see it.”
Nan Yu led the group toward the room.
However, as they rounded the corner near the door, they discovered a cleaning robot circling outside.
Nan Yu looked surprised.
“Hm? What's this? A robot...”
“This is one of our military cleaning robots. Why is it here at this hour?”
The team leader walked over and scanned it with his optical computer.
“Command.”
The robot repeated mechanically,
“Command: Clean the resting room and leave within three minutes.”
Everyone blinked.
What did that mean?
Clean and leave within three minutes?
Nan Yu had spent about five or six minutes going to their ward earlier.
Then why had the cleaning robot appeared precisely at this time?
The team leader asked,
“Why aren't you going inside?”
The robot replied,
“Resting room permissions altered. Unable to enter. Unable to enter. Repeating, unable to enter!”
Nan Yu suddenly remembered something.
“Ah, right. When I left earlier, I saw the lock symbol on my optical computer and casually approved it. Is it because of that?”
The team leader sighed.
“Open it.”
Nan Yu quickly opened the door.
What greeted them shocked him.
The room was spotless.
Even Nan Yu was stunned.
That was impossible.
He had specifically locked the door before leaving. Even the cleaning robot couldn't enter.
Then how had the room become so clean in such a short time?
Everyone's eyes turned toward Nan Yu.
After a moment of silence, Nan Yu looked at the team leader.
“Can we access the surveillance footage?”
The captain shook his head.
“If we want to check the surveillance system, the matter will become serious. At the very least, we'd need approval from the highest-ranking person here.”
“And the highest-ranking person right now is the Marshal.”
So if they wanted to investigate, they had to go to Marshal Yu Lanfeng.
But in the end, this was just a trivial matter.
Going to the Marshal because the room had been dirty, then somehow became clean after leaving and coming back?
Nan Yu suddenly realized something.
The person who had set him up must have known that they wouldn't bother Yu Lanfeng over such a minor issue.
After all, the Marshal handled major affairs every day.
If Nan Yu bothered him over something so small, even if the Marshal himself didn't mind, the people around him certainly would.
It would unnecessarily ruin people's impression of him.
And if he intended to join the military in the future, this incident would undoubtedly become a stain on his record.
Therefore, whether for now or for the future, he couldn't blow this matter up.
He could only swallow the grievance.
Faced with the others' uncertain gazes—wanting to doubt him but unwilling to—Nan Yu deliberately showed anger.
“What the hell is going on? Is someone playing with me?”
“I even recorded a video when I entered. If you suspect me, I'll show you right now. Look!”
Pretending to be furious, he enlarged the screen on his optical computer and showed them the recording.
In the video, Nan Yu himself appeared visibly angry while recording the room.
And the room looked exactly as he had described.
Simple, but covered in thick dust.
Videos couldn't lie.
Then the one lying was this room?
The cleaning robot outside definitely couldn't get in.
And judging from the video, Nan Yu had only stood at the doorway for a few minutes before leaving, so he hadn't discovered anything strange inside.
The team leader immediately began searching the room.
Eventually, he really found something.
At the bottom drawer beneath the wardrobe was a portable cleaning robot.
Although this type of portable robot was small and could transform into a convenient carryable form, it was extremely practical.
Because situations requiring portable cleaning robots usually involved heavy workloads or poor conditions, their cleaning efficiency was several times stronger than the cleaning robot outside.
If it was this thing, then cleaning the room in two or three minutes—or even one or two minutes—was incredibly easy.
The team leader took a deep breath.
“Who was the one who brought you to this room...”
