Chapter 1788 - 1790: Bound Together
Seeing Li Chuntao agree to stroll the Lantern Festival with him, Yang Dong couldn’t contain his excitement, feeling on top of the world. He eagerly asked for her opinion, "Shall we go forward to look at the lanterns?"
"Mm." Li Chuntao nodded a bit shyly.
At this moment, Yang Dong and Li Chuntao were falling behind, as most of the people had already squeezed to the front, so there weren’t as many people around their spot.
They had barely taken two steps forward when Yang Dong spoke again, "Wait a moment."
"What’s wrong?" Li Chuntao looked at Yang Dong with some confusion.
She saw Yang Dong searching for something in the bag he was carrying. After a moment, he pulled out a handkerchief. Li Chuntao noticed it was one of the handkerchiefs Xiaoxiao had just bought, saying she was giving one to each family member.
While tying the handkerchiefs together, Yang Dong explained, "There are so many people here, I’m afraid we might lose each other in the crowd. If you get lost, I won’t have a good way to explain to your parents. I’m making a rope-like thing with these handkerchiefs. It’ll tie our wrists together, so we don’t get separated."
Yang Dong’s words made Li Chuntao open her eyes wide in surprise.
Seeing Li Chuntao like this, Yang Dong further explained, "Rest assured, I won’t touch you or do anything inappropriate. I’m just worried you might get lost."
With that said, the handkerchiefs were tied together, and Yang Dong spoke again, "Give me your hand!"
Not knowing why, Li Chuntao obediently extended her hand. Yang Dong carefully, without even touching a strand of her hair, tied the handkerchief to Li Chuntao’s wrist, then tied the other end to his own wrist.
"Alright, if anything happens, just give this a pull, and you’ll be able to feel it."
Li Chuntao glanced at the handkerchief tied to her wrist, then knocked her hand against her side.
"Well, let’s go then."
"Mm."
The two headed towards the lanterns.
Initially, Li Chuntao felt all sorts of uncomfortable because of the proximity of a man, the very man who, as everyone said, used to be the one she liked and now is the one who likes her.
But as they reached the lanterns and looked at the beautiful ones on display, her guarded thoughts faded away, replaced by a bright smile.
Seeing Li Chuntao like this, Yang Dong felt overjoyed, sticking closely to her side, afraid she might wander off. Even though they had this rope-like thing, it might not hold up in such a crowd. So he stayed close to Li Chuntao, initially worried that he might be too close and she might not be happy. However, after walking for a while, when he noticed she wasn’t bothered, he relaxed too and enjoyed the fun of strolling through the lanterns.
Suddenly, someone in front shouted.
"Everyone, everyone, please don’t push. It’s almost time for the riddle-solving contest. Soon, we’ll present a lot of riddles. Does anyone want to participate?"
The crowd responded loudly, "Yes!"
The voices were extremely loud. This type of program happens every year at the Lantern Festival, and even many people come just for this moment.
Because at the Lantern Festival, those who win the riddle-solving contest receive rewards, whether it’s food, goods, or even silver.
Though these scholarly things might not be understood by regular folks, it’s all about the excitement.
Everyone wants to experience that atmosphere and see who walks away with the prizes.
At such times, many learned scholars often appear, hoping to make a name for themselves.
