Chapter 1843 - 1845: I Heard, Sister-in-Law, Your Cooking Is Especially Delicious
Jingjing never expected that after saying so much, her sister-in-law still maintained such a good temper.
Someone with no temper like this instead drove her half mad. Although she was upset inside, she couldn’t show it outwardly. She continued to feign innocence and speak.
All her words, implicitly or explicitly, hinted at the good relations between Guo Feng and Jingjing, and the close ties between the two families.
Xiaotian only responded but said nothing further, as she didn’t believe a word Jingjing was saying.
Why? Because she’d never heard her father-in-law and mother-in-law mention Jingjing at all, nor had she heard Guo Feng talk about Jingjing.
What she often heard from them was about Wang Xiangxiang.
If there was anyone with a close relationship, it should be that girl named Wang Xiangxiang, not this Jingjing in front of her.
After chatting for a while, Xiaotian checked the time; it was nearing noon and soon time for lunch. Since there were guests at home, she might have to have lunch with her in-laws. Thus, she suggested, "Let’s head over to the main courtyard. It’s almost lunchtime."
At this moment, Jingjing proposed, "No need to go over. Let’s eat here in your courtyard. I’ve heard your cooking is especially delicious, sister-in-law. I want to taste your skills. Just have the Little Maid notify Aunt Pei."
With the guest suggesting this, Xiaotian couldn’t refuse, so she nodded and agreed, "Then you sit here, I’ll go to the kitchen and make you something to eat."
Jingjing cheerfully said, "Sister-in-law, I’ll go with you."
"The kitchen is not a place for a young lady like you. Wait here; it won’t take long." After all, she was still technically a guest of her father-in-law and mother-in-law. If they found out she took someone into the kitchen, she feared they might reprimand her, so she said what she did.
Yet Jingjing was insistent, harboring her own intentions, and replied, "No problem, no problem. I’ll just go and take a look. Consider it learning."
Xiaotian had no choice but to say, "Then you sit tight. I’ll first go into the inside room to change clothes, and then we’ll head over."
This time, Jingjing didn’t follow but stayed outside waiting. In no time, Xiaotian came out and took Jingjing to the kitchen.
In the kitchen of the side yard, there were two Kitchen Maids. Seeing Xiaotian arrive, they quickly greeted, "Young Mistress!"
"Mm." Xiaotian nodded, "This is a guest of our family, you can call her Miss Jingjing."
Upon hearing Xiaotian’s words, the two kitchen maids swiftly saluted Jingjing, "Miss Jingjing."
Jingjing waved her hand, as if she were the mistress here, "Both of you can leave now. You’re not needed here."
Such words surprised the two Kitchen Maids. Their job there was to cook; how could they just leave? Both looked at their young mistress.
Xiaotian nodded to them, "Mm, you can go rest. Today, I’ll take care of the cooking."
"Young Mistress, shall we assist you?"
Hearing this suggestion from the Kitchen Maid, Jingjing hurriedly said, "You can leave. I can help here, and that’s sufficient."
The Kitchen Maids looked at Xiaotian again, and upon Xiaotian’s nod signaling them to leave, only then did they exit the kitchen.
A small smile tugged at Xiaotian’s lips; she really didn’t understand what this Miss Jingjing intended, but cooking wasn’t something difficult for her.
She was adept at household chores like these.
After surveying the ingredients in the kitchen, she turned to Miss Jingjing and asked, "What do you like to eat, Jingjing?"
