Chapter 1806 - 1808: Back to the Starting Point
The two of them went back just like that.
On the way back, Li Chuntao didn’t respond to Yang Dong’s earlier confession. Although she was grateful that Yang Dong came to save her, she felt he was unreliable. Clearly, if he had just handed over the hairpin, nothing would have happened. If something went wrong, it would only cause more trouble.
Li Chuntao didn’t reply, and Yang Dong didn’t rush to ask. He knew he had been too impatient, and because of his recklessness, such a big incident happened. Fortunately, it was a false alarm. If anything had really happened to Li Chuntao, he might never forgive himself.
The Yang Family had already returned to the shop, and when they saw that Yang Dong and Li Chuntao had not come back, they weren’t surprised. They thought it might be good for the two to spend more time together. But after waiting and waiting, and still not seeing them return, everyone started to feel anxious.
It was already very late, and they were worried that something might have happened to the two.
Suddenly, hearing noise from the backyard, everyone immediately came out of the house and saw Li Chuntao and Yang Dong. "Why are you back so late?"
Yang Dong scratched his head, feeling a bit embarrassed, "We ran into a robbery on the road."
He thought, even if he didn’t say anything, the injuries on his face were obvious, so he might as well explain.
"What, a robbery? Are you alright?" The family asked worriedly.
"I’m fine, just got beaten up. It’ll heal in a few days." Yang Dong said as he looked at Xiaoxiao, "Sister-in-law, take Li Chuntao to sleep."
For some reason, Xiaoxiao felt there was a strange atmosphere between Yang Dong and Li Chuntao. She couldn’t quite pin down what was odd, thinking it might be the shock from the robbery, so she didn’t ask further and took Li Chuntao inside.
The backyard of the shop wasn’t actually large. The family couldn’t have separate rooms like back home; the women squeezed into one room, and the men into another, living like this.
After entering the room, Xiaoxiao asked, "Chuntao, are you alright? You weren’t scared, were you?"
"I’m fine, don’t worry,"
Li Chuntao seemed unwilling to say more, so Xiaoxiao couldn’t push further, and they just washed up and went to bed.
As for Yang Dong, he could take care of himself.
The next day, Li Chuntao said she wanted to return to Stone Village. Yang Dong wanted to drive the cart to take her back, but Li Chuntao seemed unwilling. Xiaoxiao saw this, realizing something was definitely off between the two, and said to Yang’s father, "Dad, let Yang Ming and me take her back. We’ll return to pick you up to go back to Yang Family Village after we drop her off."
Li Chuntao hadn’t intended for the Yang Family to take her, thinking she could just hire a cart herself. But the Yang Family insisted on taking her, so she had no choice but to agree.
And so, Xiaoxiao and Yang Ming took Li Chuntao back.
From the time they returned to the shop last night to now, Li Chuntao hadn’t spoken a word to Yang Dong, who felt as if everything had returned to square one.
Who could he blame but himself? If he hadn’t been so hasty in saying those embarrassing things, things wouldn’t have turned out this way.
Sighing, he went to the small warehouse behind the shop, counted the current inventory to see what was still needed.
For now, he still needed to focus his thoughts on the shop. As for his situation with Li Chuntao, he really couldn’t rush it. After all, he was nothing right now, failing in everything. Last night’s humiliation probably made the whole town aware that Yang Dong wasn’t a match for Li Chuntao. If he didn’t work hard at something, even if Li Chuntao agreed, he couldn’t get past this hurdle himself.
