Chapter 2228 - 2131: Time Bomb
Seeing the expression on the master craftsman’s face, Huo Sining felt a bit surprised.
It seems this craftsman has a straightforward personality, at least not as heartless as that man named Lai.
Huo Sining felt a slight warmth in her heart, thinking that after the shop closes, she should ask Lin Wenya to keep an eye on this craftsman and perhaps bring him over so he doesn’t lose his livelihood.
Thinking this, Huo Sining pretended not to notice the craftsman’s gaze. After bending down to take a look at the raw stone, she loudly said:
"Master, continue cutting. This raw stone is large, we’ve just made the first cut, don’t worry!"
Upon hearing Huo Sining’s words, the craftsman’s face fell, and he anxiously asked, "Ma’am, are you sure you want to continue? This stone seems difficult to cut. Why not ask if anyone present is willing to take over?"
Seeing Huo Sining insist on cutting the stone, the craftsman thought she hadn’t understood the hint in his earlier glance, and he hastily tried to persuade her.
His words made the situation clear; the onlookers instantly realized that the chance of this pregnant woman’s thirty-thousand raw stone increasing in value was very low.
These onlookers weren’t wealthy people. They came to gamble on stones, hoping to gain big from a small investment, and none could afford tens of thousands; besides, given the craftsman’s tone, it seemed a foregone conclusion that the stone would decrease in value. Even if they had the money, they wouldn’t step up as a sucker!
"Hey, Master Li, your words are cleverly put. Are you implying we’re all here to take the fall?"
"Exactly, the pregnant woman hasn’t even spoken yet, why are you in such a hurry?"
"Such a big raw stone, if it were for sale for ten thousand, I’d take it over; only it’s a pity this lady is unlikely to sell!"
"Ten thousand? Haha, with a stone like this, I wouldn’t take it for even ten thousand!"
The onlookers couldn’t help but ridicule, looking at Huo Sining with mocking and disdainful expressions, clearly displeased that a pregnant woman like her would dabble in stone gambling.
Huo Sining found it rather amusing. These people’s sarcastic tones suggested her stone was going to be unsellable, that she was eager to find a fool, but did she ever say she wanted to sell?
"Ten thousand? Sorry, I have no intention of selling this stone for now! Master Li, continue, cut a larger piece; no need to cut such a thin slice, cut thicker, see if there’s any green inside!"
Huo Sining spoke calmly, but her words left the onlookers slightly bewildered and speechless.
Among those who gamble on stones, who isn’t cautious, even with a stone bought for a few thousand, wishing to polish it just right.
This woman was straightforward, directly instructing the craftsman to make large cuts, did she think it was tofu being cut?
The crowd inwardly scorned Huo Sining, each secretly thinking this pregnant woman was surely an amateur. Can raw stones be cut like this? Cutting like this, if there was jadeite inside, wouldn’t it be sliced in two? What a knucklehead!
However, even with contempt for Huo Sining, they couldn’t help but envy her boldness, casually cutting a thirty-thousand stone without flinching—she must be wealthy. If she were poor, she wouldn’t have so much money to gamble!
Of course, these people didn’t believe the money Huo Sining spent was earned by herself. Like Boss Lai, they considered her either a spoiled daughter of a rich family or kept by someone wealthy. So what if she has money? She didn’t earn it herself!
They thought sourly, keeping their eyes on the raw stone on the stone cutting machine, hoping to see high-quality jade emerge, making them marvel, yet also wishing for it to flop, so that the flaunting, wealthy pregnant woman would leave dejectedly.
The craftsman wore a complex expression; he wanted to persuade Huo Sining further, but she wouldn’t listen, and Boss Lai was already scowling, apparently enraged. The craftsman dared not truly clash with Boss Lai since his last month’s pay rested with him.
With this in mind, Master Li sighed heavily inside and pushed the raw stone under the stone cutting machine’s wheel again.
This time, the cut was rather coarse, slicing half a foot thick. The onlookers widened their eyes, afraid to blink lest they miss something spectacular.
Upon seeing the craftsman cut the second slice, Huo Sining couldn’t help but curl her lips.
This second cut followed the adhesion line of the glue, deviating over an inch, just enough not to expose the glue line.
The craftsman’s skills were indeed proficient, Huo Sining nodded subtly, gaining some insight into the craftsman’s technique and character.
The other side, Boss Lai, initially scowled seeing the craftsman speak too openly, but with so many people around, he curbed his anger. Now, seeing the second slice adhere to his plan, his expression softened somewhat.
Yet, looking at Master Li, a cold glint flashed in his eyes.
This Master Li, with too many thoughts, hard to control, like a ticking bomb in his team, prone to exploding; such a person couldn’t be kept!
Boss Lai decided that once Master Li finished with the pregnant woman’s stone, he’d dismiss him; such a rabble-rouser cannot be allowed to harm the business!
Meanwhile, Huo Sining had already been observing Boss Lai, and seeing his expression, paused, with a flash of realization.
Seems like, without her intervention, Master Li’s future is already bleak.
However, it’s not necessarily a bad thing; Boss Lai is a fraud, and those under him collude. It might be better for Master Li to sever ties sooner.
While Huo Sining was lost in thought, Master Li had finished the second slice.
Separating the newly cut stone revealed two cross-sections of the raw stone.
But, to everyone’s chagrin, the two large cross-sections still showed a plain white, no hint of green.
