Chapter 2283 - 2186: No Evidence
Wang Zhongwei felt that if Zhong Yuejin hadn’t interfered, he wouldn’t have been so careless. It was because Zhong Yuejin assured him that those Henan traders were absolutely trustworthy that he fell into the trap.
"Damn you, Zhong Yuejin, how could you trick me like this!" Wang Zhongwei wished he could skin Zhong Yuejin alive.
Ma Liwen was also extremely angry, but he couldn’t bring himself to curse.
Though Zhong Yuejin was involved, he didn’t sign the contract, so he bears no legal responsibility. He may have been the guarantor, but ultimately, it was the two of them who eagerly sealed the deal, and without their rashness, things wouldn’t have gone so awry.
Ma Liwen knew very well that if they placed all the blame on Zhong Yuejin and he denied involvement, they would be powerless, as they had no evidence to prove those Henan guys were in cahoots with Zhong Yuejin.
Furthermore, Ma Liwen had a gut feeling there was more to the matter. Even though he did not know Zhong Yuejin well, if Zhong Yuejin had truly been plotting against Wang Zhongwei, he wouldn’t have answered the call earlier.
Ma Liwen was inherently suspicious, not distrusting Zhong Yuejin but rather harboring doubts about Liao Song and Zhong Zifan.
"I remember you said Zhong Yuejin’s nephew was the one we met when acquiring walnuts in Fangshan?"
Ma Liwen asked.
Wang Zhongwei was still furious and couldn’t think straight. Hearing Ma Liwen’s question, he was slightly annoyed:
"So what if it’s true? Can’t you focus on what we should do next instead of these trivial details?"
Previously, Ma Liwen had admired his partner’s shrewdness and decisiveness. Now, seeing Wang Zhongwei flustered over this setback, he began to doubt his own judgment about him.
"Just think about who stands to benefit the most if this venture fails? We never advertised the walnut trade; it’s fine if Zhong Yuejin knew, but how did those Henan traders know? How did they know about the hail damage to our walnut trees in Fangshan? How did they seize the opportunity to offer us supplies?"
Though irritated, Ma Liwen continued to dissect the situation for Wang Zhongwei: "We’ve already caused significant losses to Liao Song’s walnut plantation. He might suspect us of sabotage."
Wang Zhongwei was momentarily stunned upon hearing this and instinctively asked, "So, you mean...?"
"I don’t think this is just a simple scam. There’s a good chance it’s Liao Song’s retaliation against us! Zhong Yuejin’s nephew is at odds with him but knows you’re close to Zhong Yuejin. It’s likely they used Zhong Yuejin to target us."
"Now we’re out of goods yet have numerous orders. If this issue isn’t resolved properly, we’ll lose this battle, and the only one to gain is Liao Song!"
"We were too complacent, confident we’d capture the Fuzhou market without caution against Liao Song and Zhong Yuejin’s nephew. In hindsight, this loss isn’t entirely unjustified; Liao Song being friends with Huo Sining suggests he’s shrewd, yet I underestimated him, ending up in this fix!"
Wang Zhongwei, upon hearing Ma Liwen’s analysis, was infuriated: "You’re right; this must be Liao and Zhong Yuejin’s nephew’s doing! These deceitful bastards resort to such vile tactics—I’ll make them pay!"
Growing impatient, Ma Liwen retorted: "How do you plan on making them pay? Do you have any evidence? Even assuming they did this, do you have proof?"
Wang Zhongwei was left speechless.
By now, Ma Liwen was eager to end the conversation and frankly said: "I valued your connections, which was why we teamed up, but looking at it now, I didn’t think it through."
"I’ve always been vindictive; I couldn’t stand being overshadowed by Huo Sining in Fangshan and wanted to retaliate, only to find myself on the receiving end."
"This incident served as a wake-up call; given my current stature, I truly lack the leverage to play such games."
"As for Fuzhou, I won’t continue in this venture. You can if you wish, but I hope the matter doesn’t escalate further."
"Regarding allegations of underhanded tactics, let’s be honest: it’s tit-for-tat. You want revenge, fine, but I won’t get involved!"
Wang Zhongwei flushed with anger but couldn’t find words to refute Ma Liwen as he clearly wanted to end the discussion, waved him off, and left. Wang’s face paled, feeling the urge to persuade him, but he ultimately refrained.
The plan once intricately crafted over several months had swiftly crumbled, costing them millions. While these millions might not mean much to Ma Liwen, it severely affected Wang Zhongwei.
His liquidity was already limited, and the millions had been acquired by mortgaging his shops for a bank loan. Losing them along with unresolved orders resulted in significant losses, leaving Wang Zhongwei greatly agitated.
Even though Ma Liwen lacked connections in Fuzhou, he was a prominent figure in many places nationwide. Wang dared not act against him on a whim.
Zhong Zifan and Liao Song had now gained a strong foothold, supported by Huo Sining in Fuzhou. Wang Zhongwei may talk about revenge, but he knew deep down he couldn’t confront them directly and would need a stealthy approach, requiring a tactical plan.
Therefore, he could only shift his fury onto Zhong Yuejin because, after all, the scheme was orchestrated by Zhong Yuejin himself!
