Chapter 177: Raijin
Jacob was intrigued by this bright light. It didn’t seem too far away from him, but it was not close either. He felt as thought he was drawn to it for some reason.
He waded through the fallen logs and the soaked earth as he inched closer and closer. The light grew even bigger, it had a greenish hue, and spelled controlled danger.
He continued to moved as though he were under an enchantment. There was a clearing in the path and whatever was giving off such a bright light say square in the middle, there was a small crater in the eart around it as though it had crashed onto the ground.
Jacob moved closer to it and squatted directly before the object. The green light shine directly in his face, not enough to affect his eyes, but enough to cover his entire body in a dark green hue.
As soon as Jacob stretched out his hand to pick the object. The light went off. It was a simple rock.
The body of the rock was the same color as rusted iron, and it had multiple scales along its entire length.
Jacob reached out and picked it up.
All of a sudden, something activated. He received a notification on his system panel.
Jacob stared at the translucent panel for a moment, blinking his eyes repeatedly as he tighened his grip on this supposed Dragon Egg.
This was the first Dragon Egg he had seen in person, just laying casually in a clearing in the forest.
Infact, the last dragon egg that was sighted was more than five hundred years ago, before even his grandfather was born.
The dragons were already a dying race by then, their last feat was wiping out a number of clans in the continent. After that, they had mysteriously vanished.
Jacob had not yet provided a response to the system’s question, and as such the panel just remained floating directly infront of his face.
Having a dragon was not so bad. It was a great way to travel, without the use of the carriage. Which he had to admit was slow and tiring.
Plus if he were to hatch this dragon, it would be the first ever sovereign level beast in his era. This dragon at full capacity would rival most entities.
Jacob looked once again at the dragon egg, and then at the system panel.
"Yes." He said.
Immediately, as though he had pressed a switch button, strings of golden light began to swirl around the egg.
It rose off his palms and floated up into the air, the number of golden strings increasing slowly, the egg spinned for a moment as it was surrounded by flickers of bright light.
Jacob was about to witness the birth of a Sovereign level beast. He wasn’t even sure if Shinzo the Sage was at sovereign level.
He turned around briefly, acknowledging that neither Xenia, nor Leon had any inkling of what was happening.
After a moment of spinning in the air, the egg stopped in place, all the golden strings faded away. The egg was just left there, levitating in the darkness.
A crack appeared along its length.
Them another.
And another.
The egg was suddenly covered in cracks and before long, these cracks exploded into a pool of bright, white light. This particular light was so bright, it caused Jacob to look away.
His face was turned away until he heard the sound of the flapping of tiny wings and the voice of the majestic creature.
"Kree!"
"Kree!"
The screeching sound could not be ignored. Jacob turned around to meet the sight of a smallish green dragon, no bigger than a human infant, fluting around freely in the sky. It’s scales were completely green and so shiny that the night light easily bounced off them.
Jacob thought this creature was beautiful.
Even though he had never seen a beast as majestic as his father’s dragon. This sovereign beast was still a sight to behold.
He felt a tingle in his chest, this particular event did not seem random at all. He had a feeling that the Regulator was somehow behind all of this.
"Kree!" The creature screeched again and landed on his shoulder, rubbing its nuzzle against Jacob’s cheek as it seemed to purr.
Jacob chuckled as he looked closer at the creature. It had bright, golden eyes and a very pink tongue, the linings on its wing were crimson red, so were it’s claws.
The creature decided to put on a show for Jacob. It screeched once again and opened its mouth directly in the space before Jacob. Releasing a pool of fire that would some elemental cultivators look unworthy.
Even as a newborn, this dragon was still very powerful,
"Ohh, that’s impressive haha." Jacob said, chuckling, and petting the dragon.
"Whoa!" Jacob exclaimed at the exponential growth upon gaining a single beast.
Jacob looked at the question and pondered, the dragon still sat on his shoulder, purring and screeching. He thought of different names to attach to such a beast. His father had been very brilliant in naming his own dragon.
He had to come up with a name that would rival—or even beat that. But also one that would suit the dragon’s aesthetic.
It wasn’t everyday one saw a dragon in these parts of the world. He needed to render a name that if heard, would strike fear into the hearts of men and other races alike.
A plethora of names raced through his head, he looked at the beast multiple times to gauge his response. In that moment, he thought of a cool name.
He smiled as he looked at the dragon, who in turn, rubbed its nose against his cheek.
"I’ve got it. I think I’ll name you... Raijin."
