Chapter 153: I’ll Be Leaving Soon
Joe Joe immediately unsheathed his rapier and cut the body’s hand cleanly by the wrist, he peeled the fingers off of his own wrist and watched it drop to the floor.
He grimaced as he looked at the body again, the man continued to beg. "Help me... Help me..." his voice trailing off as he stretched the severed hand towards Joe Joe.
There was no blood dripping from it, neither did the man show any signs of pain, he just kept repeating the same words over and over again, Joe Joe thought the man to be one of the other spies that had been sent on the same mission as he did.
He felt for his suffering, no one should be subjected to such experiments being forcefully carried out on them.
He looked at the man on the table with pity in his eyes. In less than three seconds, he placed the Edge of his sword on the man’s neck and made a clean slice.
The neck opened up freely, revealing his bone. But there was no blood, no sign that this was still human. The man just lay there, wide eyed on what looked like an operating table, tubes connected to different parts of his body.
Joe Joe looked at the other man, he was completely passed out, no longer looking like a living creature.
It was finally time to continue the mission, Joe Joe walked towards the door, he put his ear to it to hear if there were any footsteps outside.
The door was big and round, almost as though he were inside a pod. It was made completely of metal so he could not break through it.
He could not hear any sounds from the other side, and he could not peek through as the door had no openings.
’Let’s see what’s on the other side.’
He grabbed the handle tightly, he thought the door would be locked as there was no one inside the room, he pulled the handle but the door didn’t budge.
He decided to push instead, and sure enough the door slid open, he held it as firmly as he could and opened as slowly as possible so as to not make any noises.
When the door was open enough, he slid out through the side and found himself at the top of a long, spiral flight of stairs.
The building seemed deserted, the halls were very dimly lit and most of the torches were off, it was the perfect place to snoop around.
He looked to his left and his right, there were two different paths to follow. He could also go down the flight of stairs, but that would leave him exposed.
He decided to go left, after he couldn’t sense anybody moving through that way.

Jacob, sat in a field of grass, he looked over the horizon slowly as he smiled. The sunlight blasted his face and gave him a pristine glow.
His white hair and eye lashes reflected brightly under the noonday sun, his eyes gleaming as his lips curled into a knowing smile,
As a result of his omniscience, he had already learned of his mother’s pregnancy before they even told him, a power that they didn’t know he had.
He even knew the child was going to be a girl, but he would leave them to figure it out for themselves. He also hadn’t received a letter yet about the admission into the academy, even though he already knew about it.
His parents decided to wait to send him the letter as he still hadn’t come of age, and he fully understood it.
While he looked at the sun, he started to hear footsteps, there was more than one person walking towards him. He slowly turned his head to meet Light walking slowly up the grassy terrain.
Anissa was clinging to him like a piece of fabric. Jacob didn’t find it surprising or shocking that she did this, infact, he was more surprised when he didn’t find her clinging to the young man.
"I didn’t know you took walks as well." Jacob smiled at them, he thought briefly about Xenia, who didn’t particularly like coming out of their room.
She had told him a few nights before that she wasn’t comfortable in this place, and she wasn’t comfortable with the way Light looked and acted towards her. Jacob only assured her that they would be leaving soon.
Light and Anissa settled down beside Jacob before responding. "Well it’s good to feel the fresh air and have the sun hit your skin sometimes. It builds character." Light said, causing both Jacob and Anissa to laugh.
"It didn’t build your character all those years in the forest." Jacob joked, turning his gaze back to the vast space in the distance.
He could see a lot of things from where he sat, he wondered what his next adventure would be.
"Hey bro, don’t bring up my trauma in front of my girl." Light chuckled and punched Jacob’s shoulder lightly, the young man didn’t even flinch.
Jacob and Light had grown to be really good friends in the time that they had spent together, Jacob knew that even after he left this place, he would one day visit it again. The estate was really beautiful.
"I have something to tell you Light."
"Anissa cover your ears, this is grown man talk." Light joked again, but a slap on the chest from Anissa realigned his senses immediately.
"I’ll be leaving soon." Jacob said, looking at Light. "I don’t know where my next destination will be, but I believe Xenia and I have overstayed our welcome."
Light stayed silent, he didn’t show any expression on his face, but it was clear that those weren’t the words he expected to hear. Eventually he spoke. "It’s been a pleasure having you here, I’ve learned a lot from you, and I couldn’t have done what I did without your help." Light had a serious expression on his face.
Anissa was looking at him now, admiration in her eyes. Jacob thought it slightly funny that she saw Light as someone worthy of admiration, but on second thought, the young man had grown a lot since they arrived at the estate.
"It’s been a pleasure." Jacob said.
