Chapter 99: Picking up the Bride
Mrs. Fu had decorated the courtyard to be incredibly festive.
The wedding atmosphere was unmistakable.
The courtyard felt quite crowded once the large group of young men entered.
Everyone was surprised to see the courtyard filled with a dowry, all tied with red silk ribbons. There was even a color TV and an electric fan.
"Are we supposed to move all this?" Qin Wenshu asked quietly.
"This is all the dowry I prepared for my daughter," Mrs. Fu said.
"Mom, I’ll have them carry everything on a loop around the neighborhood and bring it right back here. I’m going to be living here after the wedding."
Mrs. Fu was stunned.
’How did she get a son-in-law who understood her so perfectly?’
"Whatever you decide is fine!"
Then she quickly called out toward the main room, "Mingxue, Wenhao is here for you!"
"Mom, I’ll go in myself."
Qin Wenhao then turned and told the men to carry everything out of the courtyard. "Take it on a loop around the compound, then bring it back here."
"Alright." The men were all Qin Wenhao’s childhood friends, so they didn’t mind the extra work.
One by one, they hauled everything out.
They tied what they could to the back of their bicycles.
The larger items that needed to be carried, they simply hoisted them up and went.
Qin Wenhao reached Fu Mingxue’s door and knocked.
"Come in," came Fu Mingxue’s clear voice.
She knew who was standing outside the door.
To be honest, she hadn’t been this nervous even on the day they registered their marriage.
She finally felt like a real bride.
’In my past life—no, I can’t think about my past life. It’s too depressing.’
The door swung open, and in walked Qin Wenhao, dressed in a crisp military uniform.
His gaze fell directly on the woman sitting on the edge of the bed. He froze for a second, his eyes flashing with utter amazement.
He knew she was beautiful, but he never expected that today... she would be absolutely breathtaking.
He could feel his heart lurch, then start to race.
He composed himself and walked over.
He stopped in front of Fu Mingxue. "I’m here for you."
’His bride!’
Fu Mingxue looked up, thinking to herself, ’This man really is handsome.’
’Especially in his uniform. He’s devastatingly handsome.’
’So sharp.’
Before she could even respond, he swept her up into his arms.
Lifted off her feet, Fu Mingxue instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck.
Her face instantly flushed red.
’Oh god, why is my heart beating so fast?’
Though Qin Wenhao’s expression betrayed no emotion, his heart was in turmoil.
He held his bride securely in his powerful arms and walked out with steady steps.
Mrs. Fu was already seated in the main hall.
Qin Wenhao set her down, and the couple knelt and bowed together before Mrs. Fu.
"Get up, quickly!" Mrs. Fu said, hurrying to hand the red envelopes she had prepared to them.
"Thank you, Mom!"
The two took the red envelopes and thanked her in unison.
After they stood up, Qin Wenhao looked at Fu Mingxue, ready to sweep her back into his arms and carry her out.
As if she knew what he was about to do, Fu Mingxue quickly took a step back. "I can walk out myself."
Qin Wenhao’s gaze lingered on her face for a moment before he nodded. "Alright."
Then he turned to Mrs. Fu and said, "Mom, you should come with us. My grandfather specifically said you should come along. Our family isn’t so strict about traditions."
Mrs. Fu hesitated. "Is—is that alright?"
Qin Wenhao said, "Of course. Come with us. The two kids can come along as well."
Fu Mingxue chimed in, "Mom, since your son-in-law said so, you should come with us."
"Alright then! Let’s all go together." Mrs. Fu was getting excited, too. As a mother, she was truly happy to be able to witness her daughter’s wedding.
