Chapter 146: We Want to Work, Too
Fu Mingxue nodded. "Okay, Mom, just stay home and watch the kids. You don’t have to wait for me for dinner, either. I don’t know when I’ll be back, and if I’m not, it means I’m staying late to work overtime at my unit."
Hearing this, Mrs. Fu was a little stunned. "You have to work overtime already?"
’Is my daughter’s office that busy? Or is she just that important?’
Fu Mingxue said, "That’s not certain. I just mean that if I do come back late, you don’t have to worry."
"Alright. You should get going, then. Don’t keep them waiting too long."
Fu Mingxue first went back to her room and took the green crossbody bag out of her space.
This made it convenient to get things.
Then, she walked out.
She said to Xiao Li, "Let’s go!"
Only after she was in the car did Xiao Li drive away.
The sight of Fu Mingxue getting into a strange man’s car aroused the curiosity of everyone else living in the military family compound.
’Who is that man? Why would Qin Wenhao’s wife get in his car?’
And Mrs. Hao next door happened to see this very scene—Fu Mingxue leaving in a man’s car. She spat disdainfully.
"Shameless—" ’Her husband’s not home, yet she just gets into another man’s car and leaves.’
’The woman is a total vixen.’
’Wait a minute. This is a matter of improper conduct, isn’t it? Could I go and report her?’
Her eyes darted about. ’Yes, this could work.’
She hurried out.
A few moments later, she arrived at an office.
"Sir, I want to report that woman next door to me for improper conduct! While her husband is away, she got into another man’s car. Right, her husband’s name is something like Qin... Wenhao."
Director Xie was taken aback when he heard this.
"Who did you say you wanted to report?"
Mrs. Hao blurted out, "My next-door neighbor, Qin Wenhao’s wife! She left in a car with some strange man. This is a matter of improper conduct, sir. You need to go and arrest her."
Director Xie finally understood who she was trying to report.
"Ma’am, is your son Hao Rong?"
Mrs. Hao immediately replied, "Sir, this has nothing to do with my son! I just couldn’t bear to watch it. How can a woman just leave with a man so casually? What’s more, they left in a car! That’s textbook petty-bourgeois thinking."
Director Xie’s expression grew stern. "Aunt Hao, please watch your words. Besides, you haven’t even figured out the truth of the situation. How can you arbitrarily accuse someone of impropriety between a man and a woman? That is not acceptable."
Mrs. Hao was incredulous. "Sir, why are you covering for that woman?"
Director Xie’s face darkened. "Aunt Hao, this isn’t ’covering for her.’ Comrade Fu was going to work. The person who picked her up was sent by her work unit. So please, do not spread rumors. Otherwise, I will have to call Hao Rong over."
Mrs. Hao’s expression changed drastically. "She was going to work? But didn’t she just get here? How could she have a job already?"
’Mrs. Hao had already gotten the full story from her son last night—that bitch of a mother and daughter had just arrived to join the army as well.’
’They were in the exact same situation.’
Of course, Director Xie wasn’t about to explain everything to her.
"I’m afraid I have no comment on that. If there’s nothing else, you should go home. Should anything else come up, I will find Hao Rong."
"Sir, that’s not fair! How did she get a job right after arriving? We came at the same time. Since you arranged a job for her, then my daughter-in-law needs one too. You have to arrange that. You can’t show favoritism."
Director Xie’s head began to ache. ’How could Hao Rong’s mother be so unreasonable?’
"Aunt Hao, Comrade Fu’s job is one she found herself. It’s a work transfer, not something we arranged. So, it has nothing to do with us."
