Chapter 96: Fu Mingxue Is Starting to See Dollar Signs
Fu Mingxue was stunned when she saw the mountain of items.
"Mom, why did you buy so much stuff?"
"You’re getting married the day after tomorrow. We accepted such a generous betrothal gift, how could I let you get married with nothing but the clothes on your back?"
Mrs. Fu called out to the tricycle cart driver, "Sir, could you please help me unload everything?"
"Alright." The driver made several trips to finally haul the mountain of things he’d brought into the main room.
Mrs. Fu paid him three yuan.
As the driver left, she confirmed their arrangement for him to make another delivery the next day.
Fu Mingxue poured her mother a glass of water.
Mrs. Fu happened to be thirsty and quickly drank it all down.
"Tomorrow, we’ll buy a big color TV, and then we’ll be all set."
Her words stunned Fu Mingxue. "Mom, what made you think of buying a color TV? And where would you get the coupon for one?"
"Your fiancé gave them to me! He gave me lots of coupons. Otherwise, how could I have bought all this?"
Although she had managed to trade for a few coupons from her colleagues at the factory and her neighbors before she came, those were nowhere near enough.
Luckily, her son-in-law had given her plenty.
Fu Mingxue: ...?
"Do you have enough money, then? I can give you some."
"No need. I have money on hand—from selling my job, plus what I’ve managed to save these past few years. It’s enough."
Fu Mingxue still handed her a thousand yuan.
"Mom, take this. Use it if you need to. Besides, I have plenty of money, right? You don’t have to worry about it."
Mrs. Fu: ...?
’Plenty of money? Didn’t you still owe someone eight thousand for this house you bought?’
The two children were very well-behaved, and Fu Mingxue had just received a new mission: teach them how to talk.
The reward was too good to refuse.
The fixed reward was a thousand yuan.
Plus a random loot drop.
’Heavens, a thousand yuan!’ Just seeing that number made Fu Mingxue want to teach the twins to talk that very instant.
So, while Mrs. Fu was making dinner, Fu Mingxue was in front of the twins, repeating over and over, "Come on, sweeties, say Mama... Ma-ma..."
By the time Mrs. Fu finished cooking, she saw that her daughter was still trying to get the two children to say "Mama."
She couldn’t help but roll her eyes. "That’s enough. A child doesn’t learn to talk in a day. Besides, they haven’t even fully recovered yet. Give it a rest and go get the dishes on the table."
Fu Mingxue: ...?
’That’s because you don’t know about the thousand-yuan reward.’
’If you knew, I bet your eyes would light up at the money, just like mine.’
Mrs. Fu fed the two children their congee first.
Thankfully, the children weren’t picky eaters.
"Good grandbabies, you’re doing great! Grandma’s feeding you!"
She gave each of the two children a spoonful.
They each had their own bowl of congee; she didn’t mix them.
That evening, Fu Mingxue wanted the children to sleep with her.
But Mrs. Fu stopped her. "What do you know about taking care of kids? I’ll do it. They can sleep with me. My bed is spacious, it’s a better fit."
"Mine is pretty spacious too," Fu Mingxue chimed in.
Mrs. Fu shot her a sideways glance. "The day after tomorrow, you’ll be sleeping with your husband. How is that spacious for four people? From now on, as long as I’m here, these two children will sleep with me."
Fu Mingxue: ...?
Mrs. Fu ignored her and simply carried the two children away.
The next day, Fu Mingxue woke up early. When she got out of bed and went outside her room, she saw her mom already sweeping the floor.
"Mom, how were the kids last night? Did they cry or fuss at all?"
Mrs. Fu shook her head. "Not at all, they were as good as gold! I’ve never seen easier babies to take care of."
"Oh, right. I have to go out for a bit. You stay home and watch the children."
She still had a lot of things to buy today.
