Chapter 104: Why Can’t I Keep Score?
Qin Wenze frowned. "Don’t talk nonsense. My parents have never been biased. Haven’t they been good to you?"
"Hmph. You have the nerve to say they’re not biased? Let’s not even talk about the betrothal gift—"
Hearing her bring this up again, Qin Wenze immediately cut her off. "Didn’t I already make things clear about the betrothal gift? That money was meant to include buying a house for Wenhao."
"If you insist on having the same amount, then tomorrow I’ll have my mom give you the difference—"
Lan Qingman’s heart leaped with joy at his words. ’When did this man suddenly get a clue? He’s actually going to ask his mom for money?’
But before the smile could even form on her face, she heard his next words: "Then, once you take the money, we’ll buy a house and move out. We’ll leave this place for Wenhao and his wife."
Lan Qingman immediately grew frantic. "Absolutely not! My husband is the eldest son, and our son is the eldest grandson. This house is supposed to be ours!"
Qin Wenhao was the third son. ’What right did he have?’
’In ancient times, he’d just be a younger son.’
’Shouldn’t the lion’s share of the family assets go to the eldest son and eldest grandson?’
Qin Wenze said impatiently, "If you don’t want to move out, then stop bringing up the betrothal gift. You know full well that ten thousand yuan can’t buy a courtyard house as big as the Qin family’s these days. You’re already getting a great deal, but you just won’t let it go."
"I... I’m only doing this for our son, for our family," Lan Qingman said, sounding wronged.
’She was the one who had given the Qin family its most important great-grandson, after all!’
"Besides, the house she’s living in was clearly bought with your brother’s money. Her place is fantastic, not the least bit worse than ours."
"She bought that house herself, with money she earned from her writing."
Qin Wenze was about to retort, ’If you’re so capable, why don’t you go buy one yourself?’
But he knew that if he said it, they would end up in a massive argument tonight.
So he swallowed the words back.
"Alright, from now on, don’t bring up the betrothal gift and the house again."
But Lan Qingman was not appeased.
’This is a huge deal! Why can’t I bring it up again?’
"Fine. I won’t talk about that for now. But what was with your dad? That red envelope he gave her was so thick, it must have been over a thousand yuan. Back when we got married, how much did he give me? A few bucks? No, that’s not right. He didn’t give me anything. Your mom did, and they only gave one between the two of them."
"And your grandparents! Theirs was just as thick. All they gave me was two hundred."
She’d almost lost her temper when she saw it at the time.
If it weren’t for all the guests, she would have flipped the table and caused a massive scene.
’The Qin family can be bullies, but how could they be so blatant about it with me?’
’It’s like they don’t even see me as a daughter-in-law of the Qin family!’
Qin Wenze was stunned by her bitter complaints.
"We got married years ago! You’re still fussing over this?"
"It doesn’t matter how many years it’s been. Why can’t they just be fair? We’re both daughters-in-law of the Qin family. Whatever that Fu Mingxue has, I must have too."
Qin Wenze was getting angry too. "I never realized you were this unreasonable! Whatever my grandparents and my parents give my sister-in-law is their business. Stop trying to make trouble out of nothing."
Lan Qingman exploded. "You dare say I’m making trouble? Fine, I’ll show you trouble—"
She lunged, clawing at Qin Wenze’s face—
As she lunged, Qin Wenze dodged and grabbed her hand, his face darkening. "Lan Qingman, are you out of your mind? If you don’t want to live a peaceful life here, then go back to your Lan family."
With that, he flung her hand away, grabbed his jacket, and stormed out.
