So strategy is important!

So how do we formulate a strategy? I think we can divide the strategy into the upper body and the lower body. The upper body is the mission, the vision, the values, where the company is going and what it is going to do.

The lower body is the organization, talent, KPI, determining the implementation and execution of the strategy, be it the upper body or the lower body, are important, without any part of it, is an unhealthy person with a disability, unable to go far.

So the strategy that I'm going to talk about today is around these two parts, six points.

The mission, in simple terms, is the value and reason of existence. If a person lives in the world, he must find the reason and value of his existence. Otherwise, he will live in a nightmare. If a company wants to survive, it must also find the reason and value of its existence.

Many times, the performance of the mission is simple, that is, what a company does. For example, Baidu's mission is to "let people get information equally and simply to find what they want." We can think of searching under any circumstances. Alibaba's mission is to "make the world a business without difficulty." Under any circumstances, we can think of e-commerce. When Edison first founded General Electric, the company's first mission was to “make the world light up." We can know that they were the first to make light bulbs and lighting equipment.

How these missions sound is very grand, very unreliable, but they are the reason and value of the company's constant existence. Perhaps we normally feel that this kind of mission is nothing, just to say, but when a company encounters a major interest decision, life or death, the value of the mission will be highlighted, and it will become important. The mission can also be regarded as the beginning of an enterprise, the beginning of the founder's business. If the initial intention is lost, the enterprise will lose its direction.

After the mission, it is the vision. The vision is the scenario that we want to see. It is the vision of the CEO of the company for the future. If the mission indicates the direction of the development of our company, then the vision is to show us more precise goals and destinations.

The vision can be a short-term vision or a long-term vision. For example, Alibaba's short-term vision is comprehensive internationalization. Alibaba can establish the same Alibaba e-commerce system as China's overseas and global. Alibaba's long-term vision is to be a 102 year enterprise. Perhaps 102 years later, e-commerce has developed a new model and even e-commerce will disappear, but if there are still difficult businesses in the world, Alibaba can find value and set a vision that keeps pace with the times.

Number three, values. Values This thing, very important, we each have our own three views, Values. We said that if we can get along with a person, we must see whether his three views and values are compatible with us. For example, if I want to go east, you have to let me go west, then we definitely can't go together.

Likewise, an enterprise has its own values, which are attributed to the CEO and the management of the enterprise, as well as to all employees, and he is like a layer of sieve. Those who join the company with the same values as us, different from our values, are blocked from the company or separated from the company.

Why I put the values in the third place in formulating the strategy, because giving the CEO the values of the enterprise directly determines what kind of people you invite, people who share your values, you work half the time together, people who do not match your values, you work half the time together.

Mission, Vision, Values, these three are the upper body, is every enterprise CEO, to think and remember things often, but also to strive for every enterprise senior and even staff to think and remember, only to bear these in mind, the corporate cohesion at the spiritual level will be strong.

An employee knows what his company is doing, he knows what he should do, he knows what the company's goals are, he knows what his goals are, he knows what the company's values are, he knows that this is not someone he likes, should stay with everyone or should leave quietly.
