Chapter 127 - 125: The Thought is More Important
Ignoring Drake’s shocked expression, Andrew Sutton went right up and knocked on the door.
Yuna went to open the door. Seeing Andrew Sutton, she couldn’t help but sigh, as if she really didn’t want to see him.
Just as Drake didn’t want Andrew and Lily Sterling to turn their fake relationship into a real one, Yuna didn’t want Lily to get too close to Andrew, afraid that Lily would get into trouble.
But out of politeness, she still let him in.
Lily Sterling thought she was being called for the next scene. She quickly glanced at the time and saw there was still half an hour left.
Andrew Sutton just stood by the doorway, looking at her and speaking softly. "I have to leave the set for a day tomorrow to attend a brand event in Lorcain. I just spoke with the director and had them postpone the few scenes we were supposed to shoot together. That means tomorrow, you’ll only have two supporting scenes in the evening, so you can take most of the day to rest."
Lily Sterling nodded upon hearing this. "Okay, I understand."
Andrew stood there for another moment. Seeing that Lily Sterling had nothing more to say to him, he said, a bit awkwardly, "Well, I’ll be going then."
Lily Sterling blinked, a little mystified. ’I thought he had something else important to tell me, but he just left.’
As soon as he left, Yuna couldn’t help but say, "What’s with him? Didn’t you guys add each other on WhatsApp? He could have just sent a message about this. Why make a special trip?"
Lily Sterling didn’t seem to mind much. The thought of having a day off made her look at Finn. "Well, I’m free tomorrow. Let’s go to the hospital together and see that guy."
Finn and Yuna exchanged a glance and both nodded.
Andrew Sutton had just stepped out when Drake couldn’t resist complaining, "Didn’t you add her on WhatsApp? You could have just sent a message."
Andrew shot him a look, which made Drake immediately clam up with a wronged expression.
It was almost curfew when Yannick finished his training and returned to the dorm.
Sean had been waiting so long he was about to turn to stone. The moment he heard a noise, he shot up from his chair and looked at the door with excitement.
Yannick pushed open the dorm room door, only to be met with Sean’s gleaming eyes, which gave him the creeps. He paused at the doorway, frowning. "What’s wrong with you?"
"Hurry up and come in! I have a surprise for you!"
Seeing Sean’s secretive air, Yannick entered the dorm half-believing, half-doubting, and closed the door behind him. Sean was always being overly dramatic, so Yannick didn’t pay much mind to his so-called "surprise."
But Sean jutted his chin toward Yannick’s bed. Yannick instinctively followed his gaze.
There was a carrier bag on his desk. Yannick’s eyes widened instantly. He stared for two seconds before reacting. "For real?"
Even someone as normally calm and composed as Yannick couldn’t help but cry out when he saw the one thing he had always dreamed of. "Holy shit, Sean! Where did you buy this?"
As he spoke, he was already taking out the shoebox, turning it over and over, unable to put it down.
Sean was very satisfied with Yannick’s reaction. He sauntered over smugly. "You think these shoes are the surprise, don’t you?"
Yannick was indeed thrilled, his eyes filled with unconcealed excitement. "Aren’t they? This is surprising enough for me!"
"Well, what if I told you that Cecilia Sterling sent you these shoes? Would you be even more surprised?"
With that one sentence, Yannick froze completely.
Seeing his stunned expression, Sean grinned even wider. "Speechless, huh? Cecilia Sterling went through a lot of trouble to find a reseller to buy these. She paid a premium. You know how expensive these are right now."
Yannick snapped out of it, asking in disbelief, "She really bought them?"
Sean nodded. "Of course. You didn’t expect your bro to buy you such expensive shoes, did you? Cecilia Sterling specifically came to me to ask for your shoe size. I’ve been holding back from telling you for the past few days just to give you this surprise."
"Hurry up and try them on."
Yannick felt a wave of feverish joy surge from his chest and flood his entire brain, temporarily robbing him of the ability to think.
In short, he was completely overcome by the sudden happiness.
Not until the shoebox was opened, revealing the shoes to them both, and Sean exclaimed, "These shoes are fake!"
did Yannick regain his senses.
He took a closer look—they were fakes, plain and simple.
Guys who know shoes have that ability to spot a fake at a glance. Each of them picked up a shoe and examined it carefully. They then looked at each other, and Sean shook his head. "Cecilia got scammed. Fuck, they’re not even selling these fakes as high-quality replicas, but as the real deal? These resellers are out of their minds for money!"
But Yannick didn’t feel a single trace of disappointment.
The shoes might be fake.
But they were from Cecilia Sterling!
"I’ll return the shoes to Cecilia for you tomorrow. She needs to get a refund from that reseller. This is a total ripoff! Paying a premium for a pair of fakes worth two bucks!" Sean said, snatching the shoe from Yannick’s hand and stuffing it back in the box.
Yannick quickly grabbed his hand. "The reseller won’t admit it. There’s no way to return them."
"We can’t just let her eat this loss! The amount of money involved is enough to call the cops. They’re preying on Cecilia because she’s a girl and doesn’t know sneakers. People like that should be locked up!" Sean was still indignant on Cecilia’s behalf. Her kind gesture shouldn’t be ruined by some scummy reseller.
But Yannick didn’t mind at all.
"If you don’t tell her, she’ll never know the shoes are fake," Yannick said to Sean, his expression serious.
Sean looked back at Yannick, and it finally dawned on him. A resigned, half-amused, half-exasperated expression crossed his face as he shook his head. "You, man... Compared to Cecilia’s gesture, you don’t care at all whether these shoes are real or not. She could have bought you a pair of flip-flops, and you’d still treasure them, wouldn’t you?"
Yannick looked down, avoiding Sean’s gaze, and murmured, "It’s the thought that counts, after all!"
"Don’t give me that sappy crap." Sean pushed his shoulder. "Since you like her, why haven’t you confessed while the iron is hot? Don’t you see the school’s confession page? How many people post anonymous confessions to Cecilia every day? Don’t you have any sense of urgency?"
"Sure, she said the shoes were to thank you for helping her out so much lately. But if she wasn’t interested in you, a simple gesture would have been enough. She wouldn’t have gone to all this trouble. Are you really going to wait for the girl to make the first move?"
Yannick carefully rearranged the shoes in the box and put them away. Hearing this, his expression returned to his usual calm demeanor.
This made Sean even more anxious. "What’s wrong with you? The time is ripe. What are you hesitating for?"
Yannick shook his head and said quietly, "Don’t worry about it. I know what I’m doing."
It seemed Cecilia Sterling had guessed right—Yannick had no intention of being the one to confess.
"We’ll see how much you ’know what you’re doing’," Sean sighed, cursing himself under his breath for being more anxious than the person actually involved.
But Yannick truly did know what he was doing. He was happy to receive a gift from Cecilia Sterling, but he wasn’t about to conclude that she was interested in him just because of a pair of shoes.
His motives for helping Cecilia had always been straightforward, and never with the goal of getting together with her.
