Rebuild World

37 Old realm connectors

Akira had come by motorcycle to the Higalaka Residential District ruins to try the user-friendliness of the information-gathering equipment she had recently purchased from Elena. The site is moderately dense with buildings and low threat of monsters, so it's just the right environment to try unfamiliar information-gathering equipment.

This is the first time Akira has come to a site other than the ruins of Kuzsuhara Street. I leaped my chest a little and was expecting a sight of a ruin that was unique to the ruins of Kuzsuhara Street. That expectation was only half leaf.

"... something different from the ruins of Kuzsuhara Street"

Akira had a look close to clapping and discouragement as she looked at the ruins. Certainly a unique sight from the ruins of Kuzsuhara Street. But what I felt from the ruins of the collapsed abandoned houses was a familiar slum neighborhood atmosphere, and the landscape I was hoping for was not greatly felt in the ruins of advanced civilization.

Explain as Alpha smiles.

"The Higalaka Residential District ruins are from a different era than the Kuzhara City ruins. That's why the atmosphere is different."

"What do you mean?

"People of the past did the same thing, just as humans today used the technology acquired from the ruins of the old world to rebuild civilization. The people who built the ruins of Kuzsuhara Street and the people who built this Higaraka Residential District ruin are not the same people of their time. The city of Kugamayama, where Akira lives, may be called the ruins of Kugamayama city in a hundred years' time, and treated as the ruins of the old world."

"... oh. I see. You mean the civilization of the East has perished not just once, but several times"

'That's the thing. So don't think you'll get the kind of artifacts you can get at the ruins of Kuzsuhara Street. It's nothing. It's not about collecting artifacts, so go easy. I'll adjust the information-gathering equipment, so I hope Akira wanders around properly.'

It points to a visor-like display device that also resembles the thin glasses that Akira hangs on her eyes.

"Am I just supposed to be wearing this?

The visor is an accessory to the information gathering equipment and is a display device for gathering information and the like. The display part is made of transparent material and does not block sight. If it disturbs you, you can raise it to the forehead position. Because the original owner was Elena (because), it was relatively small and could be worn without problems even with Akira.

You can take it off if you want. Because even if I don't have that display device, all I have to do is extend the results of my opponent to Akira's vision. You can wear it to avoid questioning how someone is checking the display of the information-gathering device, but you can only answer that it has a contact lens-type display device. '

"Nothing's bothering me, and I'll keep it on. It's a hassle to be questioned all the time, and I need to get used to it. All right. Let's go."

Akira walked into the ruins when she stopped the bike in the shadow of an abandoned house close to the wilderness and was given a camouflage seat.

Explore the ruins while carefully traveling with enemy training. Training in collecting artifacts will be combined with the search for abandoned houses. Exploring the right house, dishes and other accessories were found. Once these are also relics of the old world, there are many modern and substitute products, so they don't add much value. Hunters who challenge the ruins of the Old World with their costs and lives are not the ones to take home. I was a little worried about bringing Akira back, too, and then ended up putting her back where she was.

Akira looks at the exterior and interior of the ruins building and squeals.

"That's a lot of well-built buildings. You don't have the one who lives here sneaky or anything?

"If you can manage water, food, monsters and bandits, I'm sure some people will."

"... is Slam Street better"

"If you're someone who can't even hide in Slam Street and can solve problems like food and monsters, you might live there. Sometimes there are traps left behind that kind of person. Be careful. '

As Akira continued her search for the ruins, she found the bodies of bulimic crocodiles rolling. Pretty huge, bigger than the monster Akira used to hit (just) the upper right kick in. I can see at a glance that it would have been a sufficient threat if I had lived. If the head of the body hadn't been half destroyed, Akira wouldn't have approached him on guard either.

Almost zero (spill) feelings of Akira seeing a bulimic crocodile up close.

"That's big."

"This is a bulimic crocodile. Raging crocodiles grow by eating both biological and mechanical monsters. Make the captured metal a strong scale. The weapons and weapons you eat are even repaired in your body and used outside your body as your own weapon. Though well-grown bulimic crocodiles are often mistaken for mechanical monsters, they are still biological monsters."

"Is it like that Weapon Dog? But this guy doesn't have a machine gun or anything."

'Cause it's a monster with big individual differences. Maybe fewer mechanical monsters were armed with firearms on the monsters they fed. Or, yes, the hunter who defeated it may have removed the arm from the body and brought it back. Many of the firearms grown from these monsters have high performance, so it is possible that this was the purpose from the beginning. Maybe the injury is concentrated on the head because he wanted to get it without breaking the firearm'

"I see. Can I do that, too?

'Destruction is possible because I'm here, but I don't have the means to take it back. Probably can't be transported by motorcycle. Or does Akira carry you hard enough to carry you to the city?

"I don't like it. If you want to rent a car, you can't buy it until you do."

Akira left the scene and returned to explore the ruins. And as I continue my exploration, I ask Alpha what I somehow cared about.

"Alpha seems pretty familiar with monsters, but how do you even know they exist?

'Partly. I just know that as knowledge, and I didn't investigate it myself, and I'm guessing a lot. Don't tell me where the knowledge came from, okay? Don't ask me because it's a lot of trouble. Unless Akira agrees to a lot of terms after about a hundred years of listening to the detailed terms? Want to hear it?'

Alpha smiles invincibly. Akira returned a bitter laugh.

"I'll stop asking where the knowledge comes from. So, why does a monster like that bulimic crocodile exist?

'Perhaps some kind of research experiment escaped and went wild. Maybe he was originally willing to make even advanced cyborgs for military use. He also did research on integrating machines with humans that were close to organisms with automated repair functions that did not require maintenance, as well as machines capable of repairing and manufacturing their own parts. I was aiming to create a nanomachine that would allow it. I tried in dogs and crocodiles before human experiments in the course of that research. After some success in trying to move on to the next phase, there was also a war and the experiment escaped. I think so. Well, there's a chance someone made a joke and left it in the field.'

Imagine Akira distorting her face a little.

"... a good annoyance either way. What the hell were people thinking in the old world?

"Compared to the technology of civilization today, the technology of the old world is so advanced that it's unusual. I can do a lot of things, so I want to try a lot. That's the same thing now and in the past. If you go wrong, your civilization will perish and you will become one of the feathers of the old world. '

"Then, is there any chance that someone will still do it somewhere and perish even tomorrow"

"Maybe."

"... at least I want my current civilization to remain until I die."

Akira somehow thought so. Nothing exists anywhere in the world that guarantees it.

Akira, who continued to explore the ruins, discovered a mansion that drew a line with the rest of the building. It is damaged by age degradation, as are other buildings, but still gives an atmosphere that makes the wealthy smell that they lived there.

There may be more expensive artifacts left over than other houses. Akira began her internal exploration when she judged so.

The expectation was lightly betrayed. Countless rooms existed in the mansion, but they were basically almost all empty. It's the result of a large number of other hunters thinking the same thing as Akira and taking it out to contend with the relics that were left in the mansion. Even if it was a cheap relic that would be missed if found in one of those abandoned houses, it must have been an expensive relic if it had been in such a mansion, and it was all taken out. All that remained was dust and dust.

Akira looked around the hall a little, but all the rooms were empty. Confirmation in the room becomes appropriate step by step. Akira suddenly calls Akira to a halt when she begins to open her eyes to confirm the empty room.

"Akira. Wait. Get in that room. '

When Akira entered the room as she was told, she looked firmly into the room, wondering if there was something because she had given instructions (intentionally). But the room was definitely empty.

"What's wrong with this room? There's nothing there."

'There's something like a hidden door. There's probably a basement. I think it's a hidden room.'

Akira looks at the floor of the room. The floor was tiled and the gap was clogged with dust. A green frame appears on part of that floor. Alpha augmented Akira's vision.

When Akira looked closely at the floor, there was a ditch with little clogging dust. When I put my finger on the groove and opened the tile on the floor, the handle was hidden.

"This. How did you find him?

"I analyzed the data collected from the information-gathering equipment with my advanced computational skills. -Are you there?

Come on, praise it. Alpha smiles with that attitude.

"Awesome"

"... oh, that's quite honest."

"What? No, it's amazing."

"Yes, it is. I'm glad you know how great my support is. '

To Akira's attitude, which she honestly praised, Alpha only had a slightly unexpected look on her face for a moment, but she was soon reverting to her usual smile (cheeks).

Akira will flush herself demanding praise as usual. Alpha predicted so and confirmed the different results. Differences in forecasts and results mean that Akira's observations are inadequate. It means Alpha hasn't grabbed (or missed) the character Akira.

Further observation is required to modify behavioral predictions. That's how Alpha concluded, smiling (cheeks) without putting it on her face at all.

Akira grabbed the handle, opened the hidden door and went down to the basement. The basement is dark because there are no light sources at all. The light coming in through the entrance is also unreliable because the original room is dim.

I wonder if there are still expensive artifacts left in the hidden room. Akira dotted her mobile lighting in anticipation of that.

The basement is illuminated by artificial light. Akira's eyes reflected the sight of a basement surrounded by concrete walls on all sides. The basement is empty, and anything but floors, walls, and ceilings is about dust. Even the dust (dust) is low.

When Akira turned her indescribable expression to Alpha, she smiled back as Alpha took care of it.

'There's nothing there. Unfortunately, someone already found it and brought it all up.... It's not my fault.'

I didn't want to blame Akira for anything else, but I find Alpha's strangely excused reply somewhat amusing and answer lightly with half a joke.

"... no, there's actually more hidden rooms, isn't there?

'Not from what I've looked into, but do you want to do some more? If it exists and I can't find it, it's because of the sensitivity of the information-gathering equipment. Try to get close to the walls and floors.'

Akira decided to look into it just in case the response from Alpha left her hope. I approached the wall so close that my nose tip seemed to rub, to see if there was anything like a gap, or to lie on the floor and look for a place where there was no dust (dust). But I couldn't find anything like that, like a hidden door gap.

"... you don't. Alpha, have you found anything over there?

"Unfortunately, nothing"

…… Go home. "

Akira turns off the lights and tries to climb the ladder (ladder) to get out of the basement. But he stopped there, reaching out and closing the entrance to the basement. The basement, where the light source is gone, darkens.

As it was, Akira looked lightly over the basement, but saw nothing.

"No way. I thought if there was a gap, the light would leak out of it. Come to think of it, this place is underground in the first place and it doesn't make sense."

Akira tried to give up and return to the ground part this time. But before that, Alpha laughs and says something unexpected.

'No, they found us. Although Akira's suspicion has slipped away. "

Even in the dark basement Akira has a clear view of Alpha. Originally, Alpha appeared to be a crop of video information only, because it had nothing to do with light sources and so on. And Akira's sight, which saw nothing but Alpha, was joined by the sight of a colorless basement.

"We expanded Akira's vision and added video information based on information obtained from the information-gathering device. There's no color, but it's good enough, right?

A colorful alpha figure can be seen in the basement displayed in a dark black and white light. Akira had a slightly strange sight that only part of the black and white footage seemed to be in color.

"... I can see better now, but what did I find?

Alpha points to the floor. When Akira looked there, there was a mark on the floor that said something like the back of a person's foot in a circle.

"It's written in clear light storage paint. Although it appears plainly, it actually only emits light to such an extent that it is hard to read in the dark and at the limit of the sensitivity of the information-gathering device. '

"... you mean stand here? Why is this stuff written in the basement? Is it the culture of the old world or something?

'Come on, that's it. There's nothing like that in my knowledge of the old world. "

"I found it because of you. Why don't you stand up?"

Akira tries to align the soles of her feet with the marks on the floor and stands. Then a woman in maid clothes suddenly appeared in the basement where no one was supposed to be but Akira and the others. I'm a little surprised, but the same experience has already been experienced in Alpha. Think of it as Alpha's work and turn your gaze towards you.

But Alpha didn't return that kind of attitude.

"Nothing's going to happen."

"Alpha. What imitation?

What are you imitating?

Akira makes her expression look bad, but Alpha has an attitude that she has no idea.

"What, the one in front of me..."

The moment Akira said so, Alpha manipulated Akira's fortified clothing to pull Akira out of the circle at all costs.

"What's all of a sudden!?

Akira was hurting her body a little because of a strong load on her body that she couldn't keep up with the movement of her fortified clothes because it was really sudden. Put that pain and sudden dissatisfaction of motion on your expression and gaze at Alpha.

But Alpha screams with a serious look, with a sword screen that doesn't matter.

"What about headaches!? Nausea!? Conscious!? I hear this voice!? I look solid!?

Akira was surprised by Alpha's sword screen, which was not the only thing.

"Yes, I'm fine. I have no headaches, no nausea, and I am well aware. My body just hurts a little."

"Yes. Good for you."

Alpha exhaled in relief (mostly) and laughed at Akira.

"Akira. Who said I saw you earlier, still seeing you?

Akira shifts her gaze toward the shadow, but the shadow had completely disappeared.

"... no, I can't see anymore. So, what the hell was that? Why were you in such a hurry?

Alpha starts talking with a serious look.

'I'll explain now. Now Akira could have died.'

"And what do you mean, you're dying?

"Akira's brain has wireless communication capabilities. You explained that to me before, didn't you? That's the ability of someone called the old realm connector. Akira was in danger of dying just now because of that harm."

To Akira, who is surprised to hear that she is dying the same way, Alpha continues to explain why.

The network of the old world, believed to connect the existing facilities of the old world in the east, is now called the old realm. The old area cannot be connected without special artifacts such as connecting equipment made in the old world.

In the east, however, very rarely (rarely) are human beings able to connect to the network of the old world with only their biological brains without such peculiar artifacts. Those are called former realm connectors.

"… so Akira is also its old realm connector. Though I don't think I'm aware of it. Akira can recognize me and get my support because Akira is an old realm connector. '

Akira looks rather surprised but surprised.

"And what does that have to do with why I'm dying? Even if someone I saw was the only one who looked like an old realm connector, wouldn't that mean he'd die? If you're gonna die watching one of those things, I'm gonna be dead watching Alpha over and over again."

"Old realm connectors also have differences in abilities. There are individual differences in the type and amount of information that can be retrieved from the old area. Akira happened to be good with me. The human being Akira saw is most likely in the old realm. I used to make people in the old world who didn't have such entities display extensions in their sight and hearing to give them a lot of support. Sometimes they exist as equipment for the facility. Let me show you the way, let me show you the facilities, let me help you get information, and so on. I guess it wasn't uncommon for old realm connectors in the old world. '

"I can only think of the feeling that it sounds awesome and convenient, but is it dangerous?

'I couldn't recognize the person that Akira saw, but what did Akira see?

"It's a woman in maid clothes. I didn't feel dangerous."

'Cause it's not inherently dangerous. The problem is that she is the existence of the Old World, the device for man in the Old World, and is likely not to take any account of human circumstances today. With Akira's ability to recognize her, there's a good chance that Akira will have the ability to process the information she sends without any problems. Although it's hypothetical, I suppose Akira saw her ask Akira about the management personality of the building. Need information about this hall? What does Akira answer?

"Oh, or, I want, or, please, or something"

If you answer that, Akira could die.

"Is that what you're gonna die for!?

Continue explaining to Akira, who was stunned (just in time) by the unexpected reply, so that Alpha can press caution.

'I told you, didn't I? He said he's likely not to take any account of human circumstances today. It is possible that all information about this hall will be sent to Akira. For example, structural information in a museum may be transmitted in sufficient detail, in large quantities, at one time to allow for physical manipulation at the molecular level. If Akira's brain ignores information beyond tolerance as noise, but if Akira's old realm connector's ability to accept that information poorly, there's a good chance it's obsolete or brain dead. In fact, that's how many old realm connectors die.'

Akira was out of her mind. Then, when I returned to him for a while, I took a deep breath and managed to calm my feelings. Alpha waited silently during that time.

"Calm down?

"Hey, somehow....... Alpha. What was the right answer to that question?

'Right. No, you should answer that. Alternatively, you could say that you want extremely inaccurate information to be blurred video information in a visually processable format. Or (yes) ask me to send it to my handheld information terminal, and I can explain the format of its reception, and so on. Though I still can't say it's absolutely safe. They may send it to you without approval, just because they're polite enough to get your approval.'

"... in which case, no hitter? Can't you figure it out?

Akira makes her expression look worse. He was taught himself to be an old realm connector, he was taught the danger of instant death, and no countermeasures existed. That's because I want you to give me a break about anything.

Alpha suddenly starts talking in a different tone than usual. The look on his face also seemed to be somewhere notorious.

"In order to avoid lethal damage to the subject's life support, do you allow relay processing via nominal alpha for input information over the network? For detailed processing details, first…… '

When Akira recalls previous events, she answers blocking the explanation.

"Allow"

'We have confirmed your acceptance of the permit.... Well, that's okay to a certain extent'

Akira felt a little relieved inside when she saw Alpha's tone and expression come back to normal.

"That's the one, isn't it? That troublesome permit thing we had before, right?

"Yes, I am."

"I couldn't have done it in advance, either because I didn't have permission to do it."

'That's the thing. A lot of things Akira gave me before she gave me permission, but many of them don't. "

"Does that still happen a lot?

"Of course. There's still a mountain left. I'm not going to tell you the specifics, and I can't. You know why, don't you?

"I know. If you ask me, it's gonna take a hundred years, and you don't have permission to do it, do you?

"You talk so fast, it helps."

Alpha said that and smiled somewhere fun. Akira gave Alpha a bitter smile, while reassuring (mostly) that the risk of instant death would have dropped dramatically with this for now.

Akira dots the lighting again and then stands in the earlier position again. Then a maid clothed woman appeared again in the basement where she regained her colour.

A woman with a beautiful appearance smiles a quiet, loving smile. Made up exclusively of black and white, the garments are decorated with an emphasis solely on fashion, completely truncated, such as practicality. The fabric is used to lubricate (for) the decoration, and the fine skin exposure is stopped on the face and neck. The tip of the black shoe is slightly visible from the tip of the skirt, with white gloves on both hands. The ribbon wrapped around the black hair was very long, ignoring gravity and dancing in the universe.

It does look, but it doesn't actually exist. Akira had an interesting look at its existence similar to that of Alpha.

"Doesn't it look like Alpha?

'It's okay. With your permission, you can see me now. But it's not like they can recognize me.'

"Okay. And it looks like I'm talking to myself over there."

'If you can see. If it's just video data, it's the same as a human sign. "

"Speaking of which, you haven't moved since earlier. Uh, can you hear me?

A woman greets Akira's call with respect.

"Nice to meet you. Would you like to register a new user?

Akira doesn't understand the meaning of the woman's explanation. But recalling my earlier conversation with Alpha, I decided to say no first.

"No. I need to ask you something..."

I'm in awe. We sincerely look forward to using this product. '

The woman disappeared from the spot after thanking Akira again.

"... what was that?

'There is no entity. Respond by calling. If you reject the proposal, it disappears. Why don't you get off the spot once, and now I'll consider it positively, so you can explain it to me or something?

"Do you want to try"

Akira stands in the same spot once she leaves the spot. Then the earlier woman reappeared.

"I need to ask you a few questions."

When Akira calls again, the woman moves out again and greets Akira with respect.

"Nice to meet you. Would you like to register a new user?

'I'd like to hear a lot about it to consider, but do you mind?

Now Alpha asked first, but the woman had no reaction at all.

'No, you can't. Akira. Get out the information terminal.'

When Akira retrieves the information terminal, an Alpha voice comes out of the information terminal.

"I want you to send that information to this device because I want to consider a lot of things, but is it possible?

Not the only reading I could hear was Akira, but Alpha's solid voice echoed in the basement. But the woman showed no reaction.

'Can't you still do this? Akira said it.'

"I'd like you to send that information to this device, can you?

A woman reacts gradually.

I'm in awe. Thank you very much for considering your use. '

Akira looks at the terminal at hand. But it didn't look like something was going on.

"There's no response to the receiver on the terminal. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be in the form of information this device can receive. Already give up and go home?

"If you didn't give up, what kind of hands do you have?

'I have a hand in receiving information via Akira. Akira can receive more information than she can see. However, as I explained earlier, there is a certain danger. I'll make it as safe as possible, but definitely not. What do we do?'

Answer after Akira is a little worried.

"... do it. Don't get it so far. I'm worried about going home, and the danger will be attached to hunter operations."

'Okay. Strictly send the information one by one. If you feel anything unusual, get off the spot immediately. Perhaps if Akira hadn't stood there, she wouldn't have been sent information.'

Akira gets ready and puts it in her mouth.

"... send me as little information as you can, not that information device"

A woman gives thanks again.

I'm in awe. We will send you information '

Akira stands ready to leave the scene as soon as she can. But the determination and readiness were back to back, and no particular abnormality was felt. I don't remember any headaches or nausea. The consciousness is also clear. There's nothing blurry about my vision.

"Akira. It's over now. It's okay. '

"That's pretty quick. I'm ready, but I didn't feel anything.

"You made sure I could receive the information directly without going through Akira on the way. To minimize communication through Akira, to be brief, I only exchanged contacts first, and then I was able to get in touch and ask a lot of questions directly. '

"Right. What was she after all? He's disappearing."

'It's going to be long when we talk, so let's go home today. It wasn't going to be money directly, but it was a lot of money. You just tried the information-gathering device today, but you had an unexpected outcome.'

"Really? Well, no. Explain it later."

Akira then cut off the site exploration. The bike was safe, so the wings back to the city on foot were avoided.
