Chapter 116: Close to Death
The fire exploded into the air, swallowing the kobolds around it. The kobolds’ screams filled the air after the explosion. Most of the kobolds died in the fire, while some were running around as their bodies blazed in the fire.
Even the kobolds that were out of range were not safe, as they were hit by the wave. The explosion plunged the kobolds into chaos. They broke out from their lines, getting away from the explosion as far as they could.
Red didn’t stay behind to look at what happened. He immediately turned around and got up on the roof. It was a chance he created, and didn’t hesitate to pull his bow.
His fireball had a thirty-breath cooldown, so it was time to level up his Bow Mastery. He was on one knee, firing his first arrow. The arrow shot through the air and hit the running kobold in the head.
The arrow pierced through the head and fell to the side. The kobolds that ran close by stumbled over the corpse, causing even more chaos.
Red changed his target to the other side, but he missed. He missed the head as his grip weakened before releasing his shot. It was not because of pain or anything. His grip was suddenly weakened for unknown reasons.
He missed the head, but the arrow still hit the body. Another one fell to the ground. Fortunately, the hobgoblins and the goblins didn’t charge out. The fire stopped them from charging forward, which was a good thing. It was his show as the hobgoblins and goblins watched him fire the arrow, killing the kobolds one by one.
The kobolds didn’t stay still; they finally moved forward. But Red was not worried because the goblins didn’t go out of the village, standing at the entrance guarding it with their lives. He didn’t need to worry about friendly fire because he could aim the packed kobold in the backline.
His fire rate was one arrow per two breaths. After releasing his fifteen shots, he put the bow on his back.
"Back up!" He roared at the goblins and hobgoblins.
That roar caught the goblins and the hobgoblins’ attention. The kobolds also snapped toward him. That was when they saw fire swirling in Red’s palm.
The goblins quickly retreated as the kobolds panicked. Red used four times the mana, making the fireball more stable and easy to control. He must compensate with the firepower, but that was good enough.
As Red was about to release the fireball, a shadow hovered above him. He subconsciously looked up.
A black-armored kobold was right above him with a sword, swinging its sword down toward him. He froze for a moment, his mind blanked as he was caught off guard.
Levelheaded was in action once more; he snapped out of it as he shot the fireball. He didn’t even look where he fired the fireball. He just shot it forward.
But then the black sword was so close to hitting his head. His head moved to the side, trying to dodge the sword. The sword would miss his head, but his shoulder would be cleaved by the sword.
He tried to think of a way to get out of the situation, but he didn’t have time. There was nothing he could come up with to save himself from this one.
Just as he thought this might be the end of his, a sword flew toward the kobold’s head in front of him. The sword came flying, piercing through the helmet and the head. It went through and brought the kobold with it.
Red flopped down on the roof; his eyes widened as his chest heaved up and down. He subconsciously looked toward where the sword came from. He recognized the sword, the same sword that the kobold used.
There would be only one figure who could throw the big sword with such power and speed. It was the Chief, and he guessed it correctly. The Chief was looking at him.
"The body is yours. Just bring my sword back!"
Levelheaded skill was triggered, calming him down. He quickly got back on his feet, jumping off the roof. He went for the body and the sword. He found the body eight houses away from where he was. That showed how much force was behind that throw.
Red exchanged the body for loot and got himself four big cores, four Mediocre Cores, three magic cores, and one might core. He absorbed them right away, retrieving the sword for the Chief.
He brought the sword back and changed his position. That was the closest one he ever got to death. If not for the Chief’s help, he would be dead. Even if he survived the strike, he would not last that long.
He moved to the other side, hiding himself for a moment. He observed the battlefield from the right side of the village. His fireball put the kobolds in chaos; only half of them were actively pushing into the village.
The Elite Kobold Fighter hadn’t really moved yet, and the Chief also didn’t join yet. The only Elite Kobold Fighter that took action was the one who tried to kill him.
He calmed, assessing the situation, trying a new approach. He reflected on his mistake. His mistake was exposing himself in the open, thinking no one could reach him. That Elite Kobold Fighter proved it wrong.
They could reach him, and he didn’t even know when that one moved. It just appeared in front of him while casting the fireball.
’Thirty breaths are up...’
Red looked toward the jungle; that was the safest place for him. He went into the jungle, climbing up on the tree. The distance between the jungle and the kobolds was quite far. It made his fireball easier to dodge, or not really.
He positioned himself at the edge of the jungle, directing his palm toward the crowd of kobolds. His target was the backline, not the frontline.
Red used five times the mana this time, immediately releasing it toward the kobold army. The kobolds didn’t expect the fireball would come from this side.
The kobolds scattered, trying to dodge the incoming fireball. But that was too late. The fireball hit three kobolds before it exploded, engulfing a massive area in the kobolds’ backline.
