Regress and Eat

< Necromancer (1) >

Nathan Drake's life has always crossed the line.

From the moment he saw the light of the world, he had to stand between birth and extinction. A drug addict's mother decided to abort when she found out she was pregnant. If he had been put into practice, he would not have existed.

But she changed her mind. to give birth to a baby and to pay child's biological father for child's relatively healthy pouch.

Whether it was a joke of fate or an addict, his father died of a heart attack from overdose a few days after he was born. His mother did not abandon him because someone tipped him off that he could be paid by the state. He took a step closer to life, at the edge of life and death.

It was a place where people stood at the border between the slums and low-income people he lived in. Poor addicts had cheap drugs that mattered to their income. Homeless, his mother had a drug she couldn't save, which made his childhood life even more miserable.

The inexpensive medicine dulled her mind and tormented her, scratching her way through the skin every day. His feelings for his mother were always lost at the boundaries of love and hatred. The word indifference was not in the scale. There's only been one mother in his world for a long time.

And as soon as the boundaries of that world were broken, his life became a little more unhappy.

Other men started to invade the world of a house where only my mother and I existed. My mother's boyfriend kept changing. The last boyfriend I remember hit him every time I didn't have a mother. After being beaten once, my right ear is dull and deaf.

When he left the house, Nathan pleaded with his mother. He asked me not to say goodbye to his boyfriend, but to take him to the hospital. When Nathan was hanging around crying, his mother didn't have enough money to buy him medicine, so she was on the phone here and there. She throws the phone and shouts. ‘Please stop bothering me. You were an accident anyway. I never thought about giving birth. Leave me alone so I can be happy! ’

Nathan crossed the line of home for the first time that day. It was easier than I thought. He was nine years old.

A man dressed in clean clothes approached Nathan who was wandering the streets. Why are you alone? Where are your parents? ’He shakes his head silently. "Do you want to come with me?’ With basic training, Nathan hesitated about an offer he would never have responded to if he had seen TV. Are you gonna hit me? ’The man shakes his head.‘ I'm not gonna hit you. ’He held the man's hand. There was a terrible pain waiting to happen where it would be better to be hit.

*

There's something Nathan didn't know. The man was employed by a company called Decker & Jefferson, and they were conducting experiments to convert healing potions from dungeons to be applicable to anaesthetics.

Healing potion that heals trauma and Mana potion that heals Mana. These two are representative items that react with the Awakened Mana Core. Only the Hunter can see the healing potion effect. They wanted to turn this common sense upside down.

Successful research hit the entire healthcare industry, which led to deterrence and lobbying from pharmaceutical companies and stakeholders. FDA approval for the clinical trial was an agent. All previous studies also affected the failure. Due to potion traits, dungeon items, it was difficult to experiment if not administered directly to the human body.

So Decker and Jefferson divert. By conducting a secret experiment that neither competitors nor the government will notice. Of course, the test subjects, unlike before, were set up as living people. They crossed that line, crossed that line.

After a major debacle, the overall immigration administration, including the Mexican border, became very strict, and they were forced to find subjects in the United States.

Unlike well-packaged images in developed countries, the gap between the rich and poor in the United States is very large, and it is easy to secretly kidnap street junkies, alcoholics, homeless people, and other psychopaths.

Meanwhile, there were very few children of Nathan's age who were kidnapped. Development of medicines for pediatric patients is always behind the development of medicines for adults. It is because the expected income of parents who will pay for medicine is low considering their age. Priorities for researching healing potions were the same.

Nathan Drake was one of those relatively minor kids. It was a terrible misfortune.

‘Ahh · · It hurts. It hurts! Don't, don't, don't! ’

It's been a long time, and nervous representatives have crossed another boundary they must not cross.

Experiments to restore the anaesthetic's damaged body tissue could be cruel, depending on the ethical thresholds of the researchers. Typically, this was the case with experiments in which healing potions from the dungeon but without anaesthetic reactions were injected in mixture with the same dungeon but with an anaesthetic reaction. A representative example of the latter was the Poison Potion found in the dungeon.

He injected it with his friends in the ward.

That night, he crossed the boundary between life and death again, which he had wandered many times. My whole body is hot as boiling, and my intestines ache like splinters. It was an unparalleled pain.

After a night like eternity, when he opened his eyes at dawn, he realized that he had survived.

With some change.

‘What is that · · · ·? ’

You see an invisible text, and you hear an inaudible voice.

He went into cardiac arrest yesterday and had a half-dead dream. I spoke with a strange voice in a dark room. I understood the meaning, but I didn't. Like someone forced a horse into my head.

It was meant to go beyond his knowledge and intelligence development, but remained like a pharyngeal earthquake, like a tattoo on the brain.

He knew he was Awakened, but did not know.

In the ward where no one else has woken but himself, he trembles in fear.

Other subjects and those with different symptoms are called "unique individuals." The people who were called that did not end well. I had to go through a much more painful and painful process, and I usually didn't come back.

I looked around, trembling less.

What about the rest of the kids? What do you think happened?

‘Chris? Chris · · · get up. Chris?

He tries to wake up his friend who was lying next to him.

But there was no response.

I'm cold. I'm not breathing.

Chris!

He was my best friend who came here at the same time and survived so far.

They called each other Chris and Nate. I thought they both had longer names, but I didn't recall.

They always talked. About what you want to eat, where you want to go, and what you want to play.

Trapped for a long time, he does not lose hope. I thought this experiment would end one day, and I dreamed that I would be able to go out one day. We'll be able to get out of here just like we were able to get out of the house. That idea became stronger when I talked to Chris, and I was able to drown out my fear a little bit.

They were symbols that held each other back so that such hope would not go away.

No! No! Chris! "

Nate knows what it means to die. Being cold, not moving, not coming back to this room.

At this rate, Chris will never come back. But you can't go home as Chris would want you to.

“No. ”

His hands tremble, shaking Chris' body.

I didn't think I was supposed to do this. I thought I had to do something.

Let's do it.

Something in Nate's heart responded to his desperation.

The warm water that was there suddenly rushed out.

At the same time, a voice rang out in my head. It was similar to what I heard in my dream, but with a different voice.

“Ugh · · ·. Ugh. ”

Chris opens his eyes.

*

Nate knew Chris was back from the dead.

But the condition was a little strange. His face is very pale. His heart beats slowly and he breathes very slowly. I didn't talk, I didn't move.

I wish you could say something, but then I did.

I wish you could move, but you moved.

He knew that such conditions were also suitable for doctors to be named as unique entities.

"Me, too! ’

After opening his eyes, Nate realizes that his body has changed. Everywhere was sick and exhausted, but not anymore. I've never been as energetic as I am now.

Doctors always examine the subject's body, and if there is anything different, they should not miss it. This will also be noticed.

‘If we're both going to be classified as unique objects anyway · · ·. ’

If classified as the same symptom, they may be quarantined together in the same place.

So Nate wished again. I wish I could look like Chris.

I felt like I could somehow do it. It may not be completely the same as Chris, but I feel that deception is possible.

The energy emanates from the heart, and the wish is fulfilled once more.

Nate's face pales like Chris, and his eyes blur.

The blood in his body slowly begins to cool.

*

The researchers who entered the room early in the morning watched the subjects and quarantined them. Nate whispered in his mind that Chris would move according to their instructions. Surprisingly, Chris moved as though he could read his thoughts.

Listen to the doctors! Move! ’

Brutal prosecutors have long, long lasted.

Nate did not know, but researchers considered the symptoms a side effect of the healing potion trial.

Nate and Chris have been quarantined in the same unit as he hoped.

After that, time passed again.

*

The researchers considered Nate and Chris' symptoms as a sort of accomplishment.

He was already in a condition that deserved to die, but neither of them died. It was crowded enough to interpret it positively.

But when that didn't happen to other individuals, they ran an infectious trial this time.

The researchers put the test subjects in the same situation Chris was about to die in a unit with two of them. He's barely breathing.

The experiment was somewhat successful.

Most suffered cardiac arrest, but some woke up with side effects and some died.

The experiment continued.

For a long time.

*

Late night.

I was flying to the top of the [Stardust Wing], overlooking Decker & Jefferson's research facility.

It was sufficiently distant from the CCTV that monitors the perimeter.

‘Obviously, it's a strange structure. ’

The laboratory itself was small, but the distance to other buildings or research complexes around it was wider than necessary. The runway was far from the road due to parking lots and vacancies.

‘A structure that requires a long run through open spaces without shields when someone escapes. and · · · There are too many lights around. Prison is no different. ’

Reminds me of the past

‘Nate didn't go into detail at the time. ’

Maybe he told Angelica.

A few years later, more of these facilities were discovered all at once, and when Nate was rescued from somewhere, Angelica went to find him and joined him.

‘Anyway, it was a terrible memory. ’

When he decided to move forward, he came to the United States instead of meeting nearby Hibiki first.

It's only been two months since I was born, but if I overdid it, I could have come earlier. But I had no choice but to have the least force.

Simple research facility? This is a fortress. ’

Mana whirls in places that appear to be ordinary spaces, lighting facilities, or other structures. I felt dizzy about how many artifacts and connections I had.

I couldn't sneak in quietly.

To paralyze the electronic system, including CCTV, I took the sword and injected Mana.

Whoo-hoo!

As the purple sword boils, I pour the ammunition onto the ground like a bomb.

The goal was to supply electricity externally and only in-house power plants.

Boom, boom!

Around the building and the surrounding void, there was a flash of fire and smoke with Mana clashing.

The thunderous blast shook the night air several times.

Whew!

I have descended at a rapid rate.

*

The lab was a sealed structure with no room to hide. Then [Hidden] won't work either. I picked up the sword.

Weeing!

Boom, boom!

Blow away the entire artifact designed to seal the door and tear through the thick iron door.

I stepped inside.

Peek-a-boo!

It was an artifact that only operated indoors in situations where all the emergency power was gone. The alarm created by the item tears the ear. The room was surrounded by a blue light of a magical luminescent instead of an electric light.

Hunters hired for security have emerged.

“What, what! ”

“Intruder! Fire! ”

Judging by the state of things, the Hunter level that only works on various artifacts is terrible.

Of course. A high-class hunter doesn't need to get his hands dirty like this.

They fire their guns, even though it's obvious they're hunters.

Ting, Ting!

The surrounding Mana Barrier bounces off all the bullets.

Whee!

He quickly flew to the end of the hall. Hunters slashed their throats and collapsed along the trail.

[Fluoroscopy!]

Buildings on the ground are deceptive and there is a huge space unfolding underground. The real research facility and the rooms where the kidnapped people were housed were there.

How much money did he pay in a previous trial? ’

It's huge.

Many of those people were illegally abducted, incarcerated, experimented, and even killed, and most researchers and senior developers were sentenced to several years in prison.

After another drink, he was scouted by another company in place of Decker and Jefferson.

‘· · · Well, almost all of them asked questions later. ’

Thinking about it, I found the door to the basement.
