Reincarnated as a Dragon’s Egg ~Lets Aim to Be the Strongest~

53. A Female Swordsman's Village Survey (side Mertier)

Over the course of a few days, Yuno and I arrived in a village near Noah's forest.

When I told him I wanted to meet the village's oldest man, he was led to an unusual mansion in the depths of the village.

Featuring a pointed roof and a wind chicken, I don't know... impressions like a witch's house.

Inside the low fence lined the flower beds but somewhere lonely, beside them there were about three crosses lined up and stabbed to the ground.

Is it a tomb?

I would have seen it on the way to the cemetery......

"Um, Master Mertier? I thought someone who lived here was a corpse, but that's not what I'm going to do..."

Yuno slowly lowers his tail and clings to hide in my back.

Ringing the bell at the garden tip, the door opened automatically.

Come in, I guess.

I enter the house halfway through the menacing Yuno.

There was a table in front of the fireplace and two girls sat there trying to pinch it.

She was a bad eyed girl with a chestnut forehead cut all together and three bright orange braids.

"Guests, apparently. Miriam, take your seat off."

Speaking in such an elderly manner that the three-knit girl did not look good on her appearance, the girl, called Miriam, bowed her head small here and left the house.

"Um... the oldest client in the village..."

When Yuno reluctantly asks, the orange-haired girl snorts her neck in stiffness.

"Um, it's not about the eagle."

Her name is Mariel, and she seems to be mixed with elves, growing slowly, and has a long life span.

I've never heard of an exclusive race like the elves behaving as humans and sons, but it's not an impossible story.

Ignoring Yuno, who keeps taking over reactions, I proceed to talk to Mariel about the request.

Apparently, the villagers went hunting for a rock dragon to Noah Forest in three, ending in the result that one was killed and one was missing.

You think the only survivor is Miriam, the girl from earlier?

There were two people in the village who saw Dawes, a missing person, in the shallow woods, and Mariel ordered him to remain silent to avoid confusion, but by then it was too late, and he had already run out of rumors about it all over the village.

Nothing odd rumors spreading through the village isn't a problem in itself, but you seem to feel responsible for Miriam surviving alone, sneaking around looking for Dawes many times after hearing the rumors and taking her to the back of the woods?

It seems the primary purpose of the request is to uncover the cause of the rumors and stop Miriam from going looking for Dawes in the back of the woods.

At the end of the story, he added that he wanted the other villagers to simply take the shape of 'adventurers entering the woods with interest'.

As far as I'm concerned, I had one of the advantages of getting into Noah's woods without being seen with surprise by the villagers, but I had no choice.

If we were to officially allow the rest of us to enter deep into the woods in the position of the village elders, that would seem to cause another problem.

Originally now it is a shape-shaped code, many villagers will be aware of the request, and you don't have to worry about being harassed etc... but as far as I'm concerned, it was a little unfortunate.

Because of this, I wanted to do a full exploration without dark thoughts behind me.

Before we went to Noah Forest for now, we went around the village to gather information.

First I talked to the two of them about seeing Dawes after he went missing.

Dawes was pulling one leg together, and it seemed like a common perception between them that he had no blood on his face and clearly looked insane.

From then on I visited the small outdoor square and tried to get into the liquor store as well.

For once, also make sure that the village graveyard has not been vandalized. There doesn't seem to be a line of necromancers.

Turn around the village. Okay, but like Mariel said, it seems like an old man hates adventurers who come looking for the woods.

Rather, it has a strong atmosphere that is treated like one of the major events in rural life with little change.

Is it too much to think about feeling more than just a shift in consciousness by generations?

The rumor that bothered me was about, 'I saw a big dragon flying into the woods'.

When a large dragon is involved, it will be a top B-rank request, but I'd just like to think it's irrelevant.

There's too little in common between a dead body in the woods and a dragon.

I also wanted to look into the history and customs of the village, so I was also allowed to go into the library, but the unfocused Yuno started playing with the books side by side on the floor, so I was to be kicked out after an hour.

I haven't been able to find out what I was wondering, but I can't help it.

Let's say we go into the Noah Forest investigation.
