Chapter 208 - 2.85 When you say something stupid…
Xander still had his arm wrapped around his beautiful girlfriend as they eagerly awaited their next trial. The moon was beginning to glisten over Paradise.
"You just passed that one sweetheart. You found a deeper meaning in the patience trial. Now, I want you and Xander to travel to Limbo together and start to explore that area and see if you can pick up any clues Eris left behind when she had those horrific eyes. Are you two comfortable doing that for me?"
"What about the time flow and stuff Nana Fena? I promised my parents that I wouldn't make them miss more than 2 years of my life and it's already been about 4 and a half months here."
"Ah, yes, Limbo is a unique realm where time moves strangely, by design. Night and day don't happen there and it's in a constant flux. I will monitor you and ensure that you are pulled out when the time is right. Afterwards, I will allow you to spend at least 6 months together in Paradise as a happy couple, ok?" Athena said sincerely.
"Woah, no night or day? Will we sleep and stuff still?" Diana asked, confused.
"You will. Xander's ability will help you dearly here but I need you two to gather as much information about Eris' time in Limbo. I'm guessing she was sent there to recruit but was monitored by those eyes, so she couldn't really reveal anything to me, even after the eyes were gone. Neither of us felt comfortable risking her soul about it." Athena frowned.
"Alright, can we at least go tomorrow?" Xander asked politely.
"Oh, I'm not sending you right away! That would be cruel. You both deserve some time to relax and enjoy each other's company. I will be back in a few months and make sure you two are properly prepared for your time there, ok?"
They both let out a huge sigh of relief.
"Thank you so much your majesty! Xander, it'll be so nice to cuddle with you again!" Diana said as her cheeks turned a rosy red.
He smiled while blushing. "Yeah, that'll be really nice. Especially a bed!"
Diana gave him a playful nudge. "You can always sleep on the couch if all you're worried about is sleeping in a bed."
"Fine, no cuddles for you then!" Xander said playfully.
"Oh, stop bluffing," Diana teased him.
Athena smiled and laughed. "Goodnight you two. Thank you for being such great young gods."
"Night Nana Fena! Sleep well." Xander said, giving her one last hug.
"Goodnight Athena," Diana said while giving her another hug. "Thank you for trusting me to be one of your goddesses. It makes me feel really special."
"I'm glad you feel that way and I'm glad you are a goddess as well. It's funny, before Cyrus, we hadn't had a new god or goddess in tens of thousands of years. Now we have Cyrus, Sora, Brie, Xander, Emma, Emery and you Diana. That's quite remarkable if you think about it!"
Xander noticed Athena's emotions were swirling with happiness, love and compassion. She was usually very calm and didn't have very many emotions in her head, but her brightly dark golden hue always remained the same. The most honorable soul in all of existence.
"It really is but I'm happy that one day…" Xander stopped talking.
"One day what Xander?"
"Nothing babe, let's just head in and cuddle ok?"
"Ok, now you have to tell me…"
"I'm not going to ask you to marry me at 16, but it's pretty much already decided that one day we're going to, right?" He laughed, noticing Athena disappeared so he gave her a hug.
"So you're just assuming I'm going to marry you now?" Diana asked, somewhat angrily.
'Woah, she's actually pretty upset. Damnit. I guess we gotta work through this one too.'
"Ok, let's go inside and talk about this, I'm sorry for what I said but I really don't want to fight and before this whole trial thing, we were doing a really good job of talking through things, so can we at least do that?" Xander asked sincerely, as Diana had broken away from his hug and had her arms folded together with a less than pleased facial expression.
'Ok, she's cooling off. Phew. Sometimes this emotional ability really does come in handy.'
Diana hugged him again. "Yes, thank you for apologizing. But why would you even say something like that? Like I get it, I turn 17 next week and you turn 17 in February, which is about 2 months after mine but marriage? Isn't that kind of a big step for either of us to be thinking about?"
"Let's go inside and talk about this, you feel chilly and I don't want you to catch a cold or anything, I don't even know if we can get sick or not but seriously, you feel cool." Xander said with a frown.
They walked inside holding hands and Diana grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge.
"Do you want anything Xander?"
"Yeah, one of those blue drinks please."
She walked over to the couch, handed him the bottle and took a sip of her water while sitting next to him.
"So why did you stop talking when Athena was there and what was your full sentence going to be Mr. "It really is but I'm happy that one day…"?"
Xander sighed, shook his head and smiled.
"That one day there will be another wedding between a god and a goddess. Not even my mom was a goddess when my parents got married so I was just caught up in the moment, missed you tremendously and was just thinking about the blessing my aunt Aphrodite gave us that essentially ensured that we would be together forever is all."
"Why didn't you just say that, then?" Diana asked with a small smile.
"Because, I know you can see the future and stuff and I don't want you to have visions where you actually see that type of stuff happening."
"Yeah, but Aphrodite's blessing blocked that so why are you so worried about that? What else is going on?"
'I swear this has to be part of Athena's trial or something because why would she have us go to Limbo after us separating and mention the whole god,' Xander thought, unsure of what to do or say.
"Do you want the honest truth? It was something you were so excited about when we got the blessing that you made me promise beforehand I wouldn't tell you. You clearly don't remember that promise so something in the blessing must have blocked that as well. I know the blessing worked and you can't see visions of our future anymore, which made you really happy so I don't want to say or do anything that is going to make you unhappy just because I said something stupid."
Diana stopped and didn't know. 'Did my memories of our future get erased or something? Now I feel bad I was so angry and hard on him. Of course he would assume we were going to get married and we came to Paradise to get that blessing. I was alone for so long I completely forgot about that.'
Xander noticed her head was consistently swirling with different emotions and he felt bad. He didn't know what to do or say, so he gently grabbed her hand.
"You know I love you right?" Xander smiled.
"Yes and I love you too. I'm sorry I got so angry with you, I forgot the whole reason we came here was to get the blessing to block my memories about our future. Let me guess, the blessing also erased those memories."
Xander nodded. "You're really smart, I've told you that right?"
She giggled, "Yes, plenty of times. I'm sorry Xander."
"Don't be! It's my fault for saying something stupid in the first place."
"Well done you two," Athena and Aphrodite appeared.
"I KNEW IT!" Xander exclaimed. "I swear Diana right before I asked you about you wanting to know the honest truth I thought this has to be one of Athena's trials."
Athena laughed. "Am I becoming that predictable already?"
Aphrodite looked at her and said, "Nope, you aren't. They just think they just passed one about trust, communication and other stuff."
"Wait, what?" Diana and Xander said, now beyond lost.
"Correct. I put both of you in an extremely difficult position mentioning all the new gods and this wasn't a trial, more of a lesson. Just because you know that you two are blessed to be together forever doesn't mean obstacles, disagreements, or other things will come up. You both did well and that's why my sister is here. She can explain in detail. I will see you both soon, goodnight!" Athena waved before disappearing.
"Alright young ones, it's time for you to learn about love as god and goddess! This is something not even your dad had to learn Xander, because he married a human, nor did your grandfather, because he was an Uthra. It is different when a god and goddess officially get married!"
"Do we really have to do this tonight? It's already so late!" Xander complained.
"Please Aphrodite? Can we please wait until morning. We already went 77 days without seeing each other, it's nearly midnight and I'm exhausted." Diana said while yawning.
"Ok, fine, you two sleep well and I'll be over tomorrow," She smiled before disappearing.
"That was really, really weird." Xander laughed, which caused Diana to burst out in laughter.
"What a crazy day! Paradise is something else."
