Chapter 608: Morning Meeting
Waking up the following morning later than expected thanks to him staying up later than he had originally anticipated, Verdell found himself groggily getting out of bed before getting ready and dressed. Heading out of the small room his uncle had lent him for free as he made his way to the Adventurer Guild Branch where Valerie was already waiting for him with an eager look on her face that seemed to convey how excited she was about leaving the city to hunt down the monster needed for her to advance to the S Rank.
Excitement that he understood full well given how he had been in her position not that long ago, though, he couldn’t really see how the two of them would be able to complete this class advancement quest of hers.
Aware that even if the two of them worked together, killing an SS Rank Monster was not something they could accomplish with their current strength.
Heck, even if they somehow ran into a heavily injured SS Rank Monster, there was a good chance they still wouldn’t be able to kill it. After all, different from the aggressive monsters generally found inside dungeons, monsters outside dungeons were far more likely to run away in case they were injured and felt they couldn’t win.
And with the speed of an SS Rank Monster, there was little chance they would ever be able to catch up to it. Not to mention just how unlikely it would be for the two of them to run into a heavily injured SS Rank Monster in the first place and the danger running into such a powerful injured monster.
After all, for such a powerful monster to get injured to the point where they would stand a chance at killing it, it meant an even stronger monster was likely nearby.
Shaking his head as he thought this to himself walking through the entrance to the branch guild, Verdell decided not to think too hard about this seemingly impossible requirement his friend needed to somehow accomplish to reach the S Rank. Feeling it would be for the best to just help her out with the other parts of her class advancement quest that could be accomplished with their combined strength.
In any case, with the talent of Valerie, Verdell understood that there was a good chance the guild itself would step in to lend her a hand in completing her class advancement quest if she requested assistance.
Under normal circumstances, this might have been something difficult to accomplish even with high enough talent, but this was the northern frontier of the guild and an adventurer surpassing the SS Rank was permanently stationed there to hold down the fort for the guild.
For such a powerful adventurer, it shouldn’t be too hard to catch an SS Rank Monster to help Valerie complete her class advancement quest.
If anything, the most difficult part about this might not even be requesting assistance from the powerful adventurer guarding the northern frontier, but instead convincing Valerie to accept this assistance...
"What are you thinking about?" But as his thought started to wander on their own once again, Valerie interrupted them before they wandered too far. Having spotted the absentminded dwarf, the second he had wandered into the guild branch.
"Huh? Ah, it’s nothing, I was just thinking about what we needed to prepare for our outing. After all, the north is a deadly place, and we need to prepare in case we end up stranded somewhere without an already established hideout from the rough snowstorms and blizzards." A bit taken aback in his response, Verdell skillfully redirected away from his thoughts towards the supplies they needed to prepare before leaving the city.
Not finding anything wrong with what Verdell said, Valerie slowly nodded her head in agreement. "Indeed, I already experienced what it was like getting trapped in a blizzard without anywhere to go for cover when making my way here in the past. Not fun and don’t recommend. Almost ended up turning into a heroic looking ice sculpture in the process..." Sharing with him her own painful experience of getting to the central city of the north.
"Rough indeed, though with my fire magic, we should at least fare a bit better even if we end up caught in a blizzard without any prior preparation."
"Ooooh! As expected of you! Fire magic is so convenient! No wonder all those with time to spare back at the tribe always dedicate some of their time to learning fire magic!"
"I don’t think that is why... Never mind, let’s get going." Seeing the look of understanding on Valerie’s face upon mentioning how those back in her tribe were using their spare time to learn fire magic, Verdell decided to not burst her bubble and tell her that the reason they learnt fire magic had nothing to do with them trying to stay warm in a blizzard relying on fire magic.
There was a good chance they only learnt basic fire magic so they could start a fire, something even those without a magic class could pick up with enough dedication.
As for the ability to stay warm amidst a blizzard relying on fire magic... That was something even a skilled fire mage like himself had a difficult time accomplishing, let alone someone who wasn’t a mage and had barely raised their fire magic to level one so they could start a fire when out adventuring.
"Okay~!"
Unaware of his internal thoughts, Valerie didn’t think anything about it and just happily followed behind him as the two of them soon enough made their way out of the branch guild and began their journey through the commercial street connected to the branch guild. Starting their search for the gear needed before they set off, something that ended up becoming far more difficult than either of the two had originally anticipated, as they were far from the only ones who had decided to leave the city now of all times.
