Chapter 117: You’re Surprisingly Forgetful…
After that, Atla, Nitchi, and Sera had gone limp.
So I carried the three to the bedroom and was recommended by Mayor to stay the night.
But after thinking a little I smiled and declined.
There were also some materials I wanted to organize, and there was a place I wanted to go out early the next morning.
I kissed Mayor who saw me off to the door and left the church.
The time was 11 PM, a time that could be called midnight.
Perhaps because clouds had come out at night, it was pitch dark and the streetlights’ light felt a little bright.
While walking toward the Suzuya inn, I felt the sensation of water droplets falling on my head and looked up at the sky.
Then water droplets hit my face, and I smiled wryly wondering if it had started raining.
...With this heat, will this rain cool things a little?
I walked quickly aiming for the inn, but the force of the rain grew stronger and stronger.
Should I have given in to Mayor’s words? I laughed to myself and started running.
After a while the rain became full-scale, and I was running while getting my body wet.
Just when I was at the place where turning the corner would bring me to the inn, I suddenly noticed that the lights of Eima and her daughter’s bakery were on.
From the inn side only the door is visible, so one does not usually notice.
But this time, because I had run from the church, it felt like crossing the front of the bakery, so I noticed.
If the time I left the church was 11 PM, then it was probably close to midnight now.
It was a time when it would not be strange even if the inside of the shop was pitch dark.
I grew a little curious and, without panicking even though my body was already wet, peeked into the bakery.
Then I noticed that the bakery door was half-open and hurriedly entered.
When I entered the bakery the door’s bell rang, and at the same time the good smell of bread stimulated my stomach.
More than that, I searched for the figures of Eima and her daughter with my eyes.
"Go home!"
"Please!"
At Eima’s and a man’s voices, I hurriedly entered the back of the shop.
There was the figure of a man who looked like a vagrant pressing Eima.
I grabbed the man by the scruff of the neck and threw him backward, then immediately interposed myself between Eima and the man.
I hid Eima’s figure with my body so that the man’s gaze would not touch her.
When Eima looked at my face in surprise, she breathed a sigh of relief.
"Eima, are you all right?"
"Y-yes, thank you very much!"
"...Where is Rinaar?"
"I had her go to the tavern to call for help."
I nodded with only my face at Eima’s words and looked at the man who was lying on his back from being thrown.
While getting up, the man who glared at me looked familiar.
Yes, Eima’s ex-husband.
The traces of a good young man had faded, but there was no mistake.
In terms of the country’s procedures they were still a married couple, but Eima and her daughter would not acknowledge it.
His clothes were tattered; he truly looked like a vagrant.
Without lowering my combat stance I glared at the man and gestured with one hand for Eima to step back.
"You, what are you doing?"
"What about you! What’s wrong with coming to see my family!"
"He... asked me to lend him money..."
Eima behind me explained so that I could hear.
Because the bakery had settled down, she and Rinaar had been thinking of new bread products when the ex-husband entered.
At first she apparently did not know who it was, but when she realized it was her ex-husband she sent Rinaar to the tavern.
...After doing all that, this guy came to sponge money.
Looking at the man with eyes that held a little killing intent, I was careful not to raise my voice and spoke.
"Have you forgotten what you did?"
"I-it’s different! I was deceived!"
"Then why did you disappear?"
Even though I was careful with my voice, the anger inevitably rode on it.
Perhaps frightened by my words, the man trembled with his risen body and stepped back.
Without moving from that spot I glared at the ex-husband; then one of my cheeks was gently stroked by someone.
Sensing from that sensation that Sharle was beside me, Sharle murmured next to my ear so that the man and Eima would not notice.
"Please take him outside."
I quietly nodded and, while releasing killing intent from my body, slowly approached the man.
The man trembled with a biku of his body; every time I took one step forward he took one step back.
I pulled in my chin, glared into the man’s eyes, and spoke in a quiet voice.
"Go. Never come again."
"Hii!"
The man turned around and, flustered, dashed out of the bakery.
When I put my face out the front door into the pouring rain and looked in the direction the man had run, I was surprised.
In the rain the man who had probably lost consciousness was being dragged by something invisible.
While looking at that with a surprised expression, Sharle murmured in an enjoyable voice next to my ear.
"We were searching for him. You helped."
"...I see."
"The circumstances later."
"Yeah, thank you."
"Fufu, no, no."
Saying that, Sharle gently stroked one of my cheeks and fell quiet; I closed the door and locked it.
When I turned around I saw Eima standing with both hands crossed in front of her chest, breathing a sigh as if relieved.
I also felt relieved looking at the man’s state and breathed a sigh of relief.
If he was taken by Sharle and the others, it was the same as being caught by the country.
He would probably undergo various things such as interrogation, but honestly it was none of my business.
...More than that, he had the nerve to show his face.
Recalling the man’s state I was exasperated and let out a big sigh.
"Mother!"
"Oh my, it’s already over."
There was the rough sound of the door connecting to the inn side being opened, and Rinaar and Fia entered.
Fia who appeared from the back immediately sensed the situation; looking at my face she floated a glossy smile.
When I looked at Fia’s face, smiled, and approached, her dress and hair fluttered and she floated softly into the air, so I caught her.
"Thank you for coming."
"Fufu, that’s why we put the bakery here... I didn’t think you would get ahead of me, though?"
I laughed troubledly at Fia’s words, set her down on the floor, and approached Eima and her daughter toward the back room.
When Rinaar spotted me she looked happy, and Eima bowed her head.
Confirming the two’s safe figures I breathed a sigh of relief, smiled, and spoke.
"I’m glad nothing happened... Nothing did, right?"
"Yes, Instructor! Thank you very much!"
"Yes, neither my daughter nor I were done anything to."
"Then that’s good... Ah~, that man will never appear again. I won’t say why, but I’ll tell you that."
At my words Eima and her daughter looked at each other and tilted their heads, but said they would believe my words and smiled.
...He was caught by Sharle; he must be in terror.
I cannot forgive him, but I end up feeling a little sympathy.
I have never seen it, but I think I never want to undergo Sharle’s interrogation no matter what.
While thinking that, Fia confirmed her own clothes with an exasperated look, then looked up at me and spoke with an exasperated look.
"More than that, you’re soaked from the rain. What happened to your umbrella?"
"...I didn’t have one?"
"Say so before hugging me."
"Sorry..."
Fia smiled with an exasperated look, said she would have Nimi prepare a bath, and waved one hand.
When I bowed my head to Fia with a troubled smile, I was laughed at for being forgetful.
Looking at my exchange with Fia, Eima and her daughter were laughing enjoyably.
I breathed a sigh of relief for the who-knows-how-many-th time that the damage was such that the two could laugh enjoyably.
After parting with Eima and her daughter and leaving the bakery, Fia made it so that the rain would not hit our bodies, perhaps with magic.
I thanked Fia and entered the tavern; it was in the middle of cleanup.
The two helpers were going back and forth between the floor and the kitchen, and I could also confirm the figures of Nimi, Pafa, and Lea.
When Nimi spotted me she smiled with an exasperated look, and Pafa was tilting her head while holding a wooden tray.
"Raide, even though I told you to put an umbrella in your magic bag..."
"Soaked... wet..."
"Ah~, sorry."
Nimi took a cloth from her magic bag, approached, and wiped my hair.
Looking at that state, Fia and Lea laughed enjoyably and sat at a nearby table seat.
"You have surprisingly forgetful places too, don’t you?"
"Raide has always been the type to forget only umbrellas."
"Why only umbrellas~?"
Nimi, Fia, and Lea began talking about me, and I troubledly scratched my wet hair at the back.
The hand I had immediately scratched was moved aside by Nimi, and my hair was wiped.
Pafa was softly and enjoyably smiling while poking one of my cheeks with her index finger.
For some reason I have always forgotten only umbrellas.
It would be fine to put it in the magic bag, but even if I put it in I forget it the next time after using it.
...Come to think of it, I often came home soaked from the rain and made Nimi make a troubled face.
When Nimi finished wiping my hair she told me to return to the inn and take a bath; I nodded with a wry smile.
