Reincarnated As The Heroes Guide

One of the guards opened the door and gave Kalli a thumbs up when he noticed her on the wall. Then, the other building did the same, and she knew that they were going to make it through this.

But as the storm was travelling straight west, with the winds rotating counterclockwise, the second half of the storm was going to hit the other side of everything.

According to the clock on the wall, it should be just after dawn now, and the first stage of the storm, with the dust storm included, had lasted nearly twenty hours. Given its movement speed, sixteen for the second half of the storm sounded reasonable.

But she did seem to recall something about storms slowing over land.

There wasn’t much that they could do except reinforce a few areas that looked like they might collapse when hit from the other direction, and then prepare for the worst.

Kalli returned to her office instead of her bedroom, just so that she could keep the power to the generator topped off, and then settled in for a bit of sleep as the winds began to howl again, and the storm slammed into the walls of the Hall of Heroes.

The back side of the storm didn’t seem to be any less intense than the front side had been, but out of sheer exhaustion, Kalli managed to get to sleep after topping off the generator.

When she woke, the first thing that she checked was the barrier over the main building.

Kalli sighed. The storm did ten percent of what the barrier could protect against, a statistic that it hadn’t shown her when she first installed it. But that gave her a good idea of what the barrier was capable of.

She wished that there were cameras that would show her more than the immediate surroundings of the building. If she could at least see that the crops were still in the ground, and that all the buildings were intact, she would be happy.

There wasn’t much in the app.

All the conversations were about the storm, the leaks in their buildings, and efforts to secure storm shutters that had been damaged.

All intact, no signs of panic.

Temple and a few others were in the apartment buildings so that there was a direct line of contact and healing if things went wrong. But they were also reporting nothing more than some flooding from roof leaks.

Not optimal, but not a disaster.

At least, not compared to what Kalli had mentally prepared herself to see.

She also hadn’t received any messages from the System while she was asleep. No emergency quests, no warnings of impending doom.

Interestingly, she saw that while everyone was locked down, many were still trying to get their hours in for skilled work. Patching leaks, cleaning, even using barrier skills to protect the roof of the apartment buildings. It all counted.

But there were others preparing for after the storm.

One of the teams that was in the main Academy building for the storm had decided to work on building windmills, to be mounted atop the towers once the storm had passed. A bit of supplemental power, as the wind never really stopped blowing.

Most of the time it was not a strong wind, but it was constant, and that was good for their power budget.

The development and building process also gave them hours for the quest, and they could collect it every day during the storm, then turn them all in at the end. They were already missing out on the other quests that they would normally be doing, so this was the best that they could hope for.

Kalli sat in her office and belatedly realized why some of the heroes had chosen to remain in the main building instead of their more comfortable dorms.

The kitchen was in the main building.

Everyone who was somewhere other than the apartments and the main building was on their own for food until the storm ended, Kalli assumed.

They might have gone out and grabbed meals for the rest of the storm, but it hadn’t occurred to her, as she had been loading up on snacks and bubble tea when she was bored. It wasn’t a total loss, though.

She was the one with the [Storage Realm] and she had a massive amount of stored food with her. All she had to do was to cook her own dinner for the first time in ages.

[ Maybe a nice steak and lobster dinner, baked potato, a side salad. That would be lovely. ] Kalli thought as she stared at the inventory of the storage space.

Then, she grabbed a "gourmet" frozen lasagna dinner from that she had looted the first day, and placed it on the counter.

She didn’t have a microwave.

In fact, she didn’t have any sort of cooking utensils in this building at all.

Kalli sighed and put the frozen dinner away, then took out an MRE pack.

Well, that would do.

She dumped the contents on the counter, and took stock. A chocolate bar, a coconut flavoured protein bar, a pouch of sliced apples in syrup, a cornbread muffin, blackberry jam, coffee, orange drink mix, the pack of shepherd’s pie, a lucky green spork, and the flameless heater bag.

That was the important part. Hot food, without having to spend points to get kitchenware, when she could just pilfer some from the staff lounge later.

She should count as Academy Staff at this point, right?

Kalli had never thought that she would be sitting here, in the middle of a major typhoon, eating alien ration packs while waiting to find out if the world had really ended around her.

The whole situation was surreal, and for a moment, she wondered how the other groups were doing.

Not the rest of the Academy, she had updates on that.

But all the teams from other cities.

Had they been overrun? Were they still holding out? Were there full cities that didn’t see any real devastation, or who were attacked by monsters so weak that the average person could handle them?

What about the army and their bunkers? Were they still holding out and preparing to make their comeback after the trials?

There were so many variables that she wasn’t even sure where to start.
