A runner entered the building, and brought Kalli the same news that her camera feeds were telling her.

"The monsters are on the move, headed for the base. The Arks on the north side of town have already engaged, but it looks like most of the Cyclops force has decided to try to go around them, instead of attacking the vehicles.

Either they don’t think that they can get through the defences, or they don’t see them as the greater threat."

From what Kalli could see, it was most likely the first. They were staying well away from the Arks, so they understood that they were dangerous, but they weren’t attacking them. Though, now that she thought about it, they might not understand that there were people in there.

They might think that it was a shielded and automated defensive fortification.

And why would you attack a heavily armed and armoured stationary position when you could just go around it? Given that these monsters all used medieval level weapons, the entire concept of a flying vehicle of that size and shape was likely beyond their comprehension.

With the monsters on the move, the new flying Rogue team was headed out, flying low over the battlefield, with beacon lights on, so that the air defence batteries didn’t target them.

Then, they gained altitude and hovered behind the enemy lines, watching for targets that were under attack already. If they were forced to focus forward, they couldn’t defend the back.

A short burst to the head was enough to take them out, and from only a few hundred metres away, the head of a Giant was not a hard target to hit for a Rogue.

They even got the bonuses from their [Backstab] and [Ambush] skills when shooting giants in the back. It wasn’t quite the way that they thought they would be using their Class Skills, but since they were effective, nobody would complain.

They just needed to do as much damage as they could before the hour was up, and they would need to return to recover and recharge.

They were burning all the mana they were recovering to increase their firepower, which left none to top off the suit, which only held 200 mana. Enough for one hour of operations, though when it got low, they could stop shooting and just channel some mana into it to get home safely.

The fury of the attack was enough that the new wave of Cyclops were beginning to look sparse before they were even halfway to the walls.

Even on the sections where there were none of the fast attack rogues flying, they were still falling steadily, and the new wave hadn’t been high in numbers to begin with. That did make Kalli wonder if there were more monsters coming. But with the power of this new group, she suspected that they were going to be everything.

After all, what other group was going to be able to deal with Cyclops warriors who could shrug off a heavy Plasma Cannon, even if it was only once or twice?

That level of defensive power was simply insane, and well beyond what would be realistic for anyone else with this world’s level of technology to deal with. If they didn’t have nuclear weapons or some sort of secret super weapon, they were doomed.

Even their heroes wouldn’t stand a chance against that.

At least, not in this sort of numbers.

One at a time, they could likely deal with the Cyclops force using their skills and tactical positioning. But when they were interspersed with tens of thousands of other monsters and surrounding the city?

No chance.

While the battle raged, and everyone was too busy to be coming to her for anything, Kalli started to make a list of things that the new city was going to need.

Obviously, they would need some interiors for the shops, but that wasn’t a big deal.

But other than that, everything they needed was all raw materials.

They didn’t have mines in the region, they had limited access to the sea, thanks to the monsters, and there was no telling what sorts of monsters would be in the region after this wave.

So, what they could actually make was questionable.

What she really needed was a way to bind the store to the computer system of the city, so that people could shop in the convenience of their own homes, instead of coming to her for everything.

Sure, it was cool that she got to feel important. But with all the level 0 members they were gaining, the shop was becoming a full-time business.

She had literally worked until the day she died once, she wasn’t going to do that again.

Personal time was important.

To take her mind off the issues outside, she brought up the shop window, and then the admin prompt, where she could try to enter commands or check system functions.

A list of available commands was disappointingly short, but there was some hope.

She could display the store inventory on other screens, so anyone could browse the shop if they had access to a touchscreen. The problem came when she tried to introduce a checkout function.

Kalli sighed and began to code a shopping cart function anyhow.

That would let them come to her with their list of prepared items already selected, and all she would have to do was to confirm them for sale. That would save her a bunch of time.

The issue she ran into was that the heroes didn’t have access to share their cart, they didn’t have a high enough permission level, and Kalli couldn’t change it. So, they had to come to her and show her the display so that she could sell them the items.

It was a little faster, but still not perfect.

However, it did come with one handy function. It showed them their points balance compared to their shopping cart, so they didn’t have to guess whether they could afford it.
