Reincarnated As The Heroes Guide

Chapter 129: Forgotten Choices

With all the chaos, Kalli realized that she had forgotten all about picking her level five upgrade reward.

She still had the three options available in her System Interface when she went to update the map.

{New Skills Available} Please Choose Level 5 Reward

{Weapons and Armour Discount}

{Increased Store Inventory}

{Expanded Storage Realm}

Her storage realm was still in good shape, with a significant amount of space inside, as it was expanding with every level. All that added space was just empty shelving at the back of the warehouse, as she hadn’t added anything to it for a while, and only transferred supplies in and out for the kitchen.

Increased Store Inventory sounded like a great option.

They needed a lot of different things right now, for construction, upgrades, and quality of life improvements. If she could offer them at her store for points, that would be huge.

However, if she could get a discount on weapons and armour, everyone would be safer when they were out doing missions. Then, when she managed to upgrade the store to offer Rare Grade weapons, they might actually be able to afford them.

Or, she could start offering the Uncommon Grade armoured battle suits and the Lasrifles at a more affordable price.

Having everyone just a bit better equipped would make her feel better.

But compared to the utility, she wasn’t sure what to pick.

She was about to flip a coin when a short warning tone from the sirens in the towers alerted her to trouble.

Forgetting everything else, Kalli rushed out to the wall, and found that there was nothing attacking the walls. Nothing inside the compound, either. So why was there a siren?

Then, she saw the guard on duty pointing out into the ocean, past the fishing team.

An entire battle fleet of naval vessels was out there, but not in any sort of design that she had ever seen before. These almost looked like orbital shuttles from her past life, not something that was designed to travel on water.

However, they were the size of coast guard cutters. A little under a hundred metres long, narrow hulled. But curved for three-dimensional airflow, not submerged water flow.

Unless they were a form of submarine?

Then the radio crackled to life.

{Marimgar Academy, this is the Kalkan Naval Force Charlie. Report if you have radio contact.

Repeat, this is the Kalkan Navy. We have confirmed the presence of human survivors, and will send a rescue force ashore to effect an extraction.}

Kalli picked up the microphone and spoke in an even tone.

{This is Force Commander Kalli of the Marimgar Defence Force. Our situation is stable, extraction is not needed at this time.

Is your force stable and sustainable? A major storm recently passed this area, with a high chance of damage to surface vessels.}

There was a long pause before anyone responded.

{Commander Kalli, do you have Ascended Heroes in your force? Did they advance before the end of the first trial?}

Kalli wasn’t certain that she wanted to answer that.

Kalka was a nation to the northwest, and significantly larger than Irashia, the nation that Marimgar was a part of. Their military dwarfed anything that they could have hoped to see in Marimgar. So, they should actually be in a better position than her own force was.

If they hadn’t done anything insane like keeping all their heroes at level one.

{I can confirm that we have both heroes and civilians in Marimgar. However, the situation outside our walls is not secure, and it would be unwise for us to attempt to join you for a shoreside meeting.}

Aboard the survival arks, the Kalkan Commanders laughed.

Of course, the cowards of Irashia had abandoned their heroes to the disaster and left them too paranoid to accept that strangers might have good intentions. The Irashian Nobility was best known for its love of money and scheming.

They were not a military powerhouse.

{Madam Commander, we have helicopters. If you have a safe landing zone, we can hold a meeting at your compound.}

{Understood, please maintain an altitude of at least five hundred metres above sea level when crossing the distance between the shore and the compound. A landing zone is available for your use.}

The Academy already had a helipad, after all.

The heroes who had been doing the fishing mission were already fighting their way back to the walls, dragging magma corrupted monsters into range of the sentry turrets to reduce their own workload.

Within minutes, a trio of small helicopters, one transport and two attack helicopters, left the vessels, and Kalli let out a subconscious sigh of relief.

The ships looked strange, but the military gear was perfectly normal.

The helicopters spread out to get a better visual of the Academy’s grounds, Kalli noticed. Most likely, they had high definition recording equipment on them. But she didn’t mind if they were looking, as long as they weren’t trying to cause trouble.

Kalli went to stand by the helipad as the group settled to land. Someone had hastily repainted the markings with pink flagging tape, as the original markings were mostly destroyed when they cleared the compound of ash.

Loose stones bounced off Kalli’s armour as the rotors of the helicopters spun down, indicating that they were intending to be here for some time, and no keeping themselves at the emergency readiness status she would have expected of a foreign military.

Instead of politicians, the person who climbed out of the transport helicopter was wearing a bodysuit much like her own, but more crude. Locally made, she guessed, without the advantages of her world’s synthetic materials.

"Base Commander Kalli, I am Captain Kovalev of the Kalkan Fleet. Thank you for having us.

I must say, your force seems to have done exceptionally well for themselves, despite being landlocked."

"Captain, please do come to my office and we can speak in comfort. I will have someone bring refreshments. Tell me, are you awakened? The Heroes have different nutritional needs than the average person."

"Level three Strategist. And you?"

"Level five Coordinator."
