Chapter 133: Kalkans Did Well
Yara was becoming concerned that the army would try to take this place over, and just land their ships around the compound or something.
The soldiers were getting far too excited about this prospect, and they had three quarters of a million civilians in their ships. There was no way that even all their heroes combined could gather enough food from the dungeon to feed that many.
They could certainly try, and they could add a bit more to everyone’s diet. But even if every hero went every day, that was simply too many people.
They had to have some sort of food production on the ships, she assumed.
If not, they would have been desperate from the moment that they heard about the tubers.
"If you could arrange it, we would be highly appreciative. We’re all heroes, so we’re all eligible to enter the dungeon. The Kalkan fleet offers generous rewards for scavenged supplies, and your dungeon should count."
"That it definitely should. Yara, would you be willing to heal for them? Then, we can have Temple or Reggie tank?"
"Reggie? Definitely not. No offence, but I’d rather have Joanna tank for me."
Kalli laughed. "While the President’s sister is much scarier than Reggie, the last I checked the Student Council team was out of the compound."
"Right, they took Amber and the guys from the bunker with them. Then Temple, or whatever one of the shield warriors is available."
Reggie suddenly sneezed twice and looked around. Someone was definitely talking trash about him. He refused to believe that he had caught a cold after the storm. It had to be one of the girls.
How could his luck with the ladies be this bad when there were so few men left in the world?
Yara exited the hall, and waved over Bert, who was carrying wood to the team making new shutters in the front yard.
"Hey, big man, want to take these special forces guys from the Kalkan Navy out on a Rat King dungeon run with me?"
Bert smiled. "That sounds good to me. Better than carrying logs all day. I’ll find someone to take over my supply run. We’ve got a whole team out making shutters now, and they’re going through a lot of wood.
Making a lot of sawdust too, which might be good for the plants?
Someone told me that it’s good for protecting soil from the sun."
Yara shrugged, she didn’t know either.
One of the other warriors patted Bert on the shoulder as he passed by, and the big man gave him a thumbs up, then picked up the healer and carried her back into the hall of heroes.
"Well, I must say that your heroes are certainly a lively bunch. I can see how she’d want him as the leader for the group. However, we should grab more supplies before the run. We didn’t come equipped for heavy combat."
Kalli shrugged and purchased a case of ammunition.
She placed it on the counter, and the Captain stared at the blank green metal box.
"When you pick a weapon and open it, the case will have a thousand rounds of ammunition in it. They’re one of the rewards you can get from the mystery boxes that come with mission completions. Easy Quests, like fishing, give the common boxes, hard quests give Uncommon Grade boxes.
Now, go. Have fun, collect loot, come back, and we can send you on more quests."
The Captain stood and gave her a stiff, formal salute.
"It’s been a pleasure meeting you, Coordinator Kalli De Marimgar. I will have someone come give you the details of the mission completion arrangement soon."
Once they left, and Kalli was finally alone in her office again, she let out a deep breath, and steadied her shaking hands.
[ Well, that went better than expected. Now, I just need to find a way to keep things from going sideways once someone lets slip that I’ve got a whole store full of items they can buy. ]

Kalli smiled.
[ Now we’re talking. If they can complete the missions back on their ships, I don’t need to go anywhere, and they can keep accepting the missions as long as they’re in range.
But this is a System linked communicator. If it’s like the one from home, as long as they’re within a thousand kilometres of me, they should be able to accept quests. But won’t that put them out of range of most of the quests?
Whatever, not my problem. If they want to go somewhere that they can’t do the quests, that’s on them. ]

Kalli saw her interface shift, and realized that she could actually issue quests remotely to Captain Kovalev’s statue. So, they didn’t have to always do the ones that were made for Marimgar. She could issue separate quests for the Kalkan Fleet.
Wasn’t that just doubling her potential reward base?
Kalli forwarded the fishing, exploration and exercise quests to the statue aboard the Captain’s vessel, set to refresh every day at midnight.
That should give them plenty of options to keep getting points, even when they were moving the fleet. Perhaps not for every hero on board. But even if they sat in front of a satellite feed all day every day, they could never finish writing exploration reports for her.
Because the situation in many regions changed daily.
If they were smart, they were already fishing, so that was a freebie for them, and for her.
But the exercise one was just a reminder to keep growing.
Kalli had no idea of the chaos that she had just caused aboard the Kalkan fleet. The initial quests had only appeared to the higher level heroes aboard the fleet. But when she pushed them to the statue, every civilian who had a {Level 0 Commoner} status had received the notification.
And they all knew that it could be turned in on the flagship, in the main training hall.
