Chapter 1517: End of Colossuses Part 10
A few minutes later, after Xu Feng delivered the verdict, the soldier was about to lift Edgar up and drag his feet back to the prison cell.
"Wait, I can walk by myself." Edgar resisted the pain in his legs and raised his hand. Like hell he would allow the soldier to continue to drag him around like some sandbag now that he knew two women were livestreaming him.
The soldier sneered in disdain. He was also disgusted to touch this uncultured swine.
"Get a move on then!" The soldier shouted coldly. But then he quickly remembered the two women’s presence. He had been briefed about their presence and their reasoning for being here.
They were here to document the process and to ensure Edgar wouldn’t pull any tricks while doing the search assignment.
"Apologies for my tone, ladies. But criminals like them cannot be treated nicely." He explained to them his action.
"Fret not, loyal soldier of the Aetheria Empire. We understand the process. You can just treat us like some invisible binoculars." Cute Joy smiled sweetly.
’Ahh... What a sweet smile.’ The soldier nearly got charmed on the spot.
"Joy, you’re doing that charming thing again to get into the NPC’s good grace and test if they got rapport status." Little Honey cleared her throat and advised her that now was not the time.
"Hehe, old habits." Cute Joy chuckled awkwardly.
Needless to say, their interaction was simply intended to get the audience interested in the boring content.
As the two soon followed the soldier and Edgar back to his prison cell, Xu Feng had already made his way back to the Royal Court.
Once again, only three people were present: Emperor Aether, Judge Olivia, and the Royal Steward.
"Based on your expressions, I suppose you’ve confirmed the truth in my words, right?" Xu Feng mused.
Olivia nodded and held the vial up. "Whoever designed this is a genius. We must award this individual properly."
"Confidential."
"But how can we award them if we don’t know them?"
"Can award it to the Vanguard Guild."
"..."
A stare-off soon began between Xu Feng and Olivia.
How could Xu Feng not know their intention of wanting to poach?
As soon as they learned of Jeanette, they would do everything to steal her away from him.
"Ahem, whoever they are, the Aetheria Empire—no, the Divine World owes them a big time." Aether cleared his throat and said. He was equally intrigued and wished to employ such a person, but now was not the proper time.
He had sent his elite troops to rush over to Red Forest City to investigate the matter.
Although the city was indeed under attack, the monsters’ goal wasn’t the city itself; it was the food source. Due to the fact that Red Forest City had tossed its food source in the open, not much damage had been done.
The monsters ate their bellies full—more than enough at that.
Their aggression ceased quickly and left them for some areas to rest. During that time, some monsters were indeed a bit too heated in the intimacy aspect.
And because of how special some of them were, the babies they made quickly showed signs of contamination.
In fact, the monsters who consumed the food source, especially those with a large stomach capacity, began to show signs of aggression. The aggression that wasn’t used on humans, but their predator’s instinct on their natural enemies.
Prior to the Colossuses’ suppression, the majority of the monsters in the army were natural enemies.
The elite troops didn’t even need to do anything when the monsters all wiped themselves away.
Keep in mind that the number of monsters was in the five digits.
For such a large number of monsters to deal no damage to any human cities and end themselves was something one could never imagine.
What made it more baffling was that the substance they consumed really had no effect on humans, which meant that they could totally throw these substances into all water sources.
Who said anything that only food was the only thing available to poison these monsters?
Water sources were actually more effective because no matter where the water flowed to, people were bound to receive it if they went to their designated well to retrieve water.
’With this invention, the Colossuses would no longer have any numerical advantage!’ Aether could already imagine the peace being restored, alongside the other empires’ praises toward him.
After all, he would be credited with being the one who pushed forward for the end by noticing Xu Feng.
Of course, that meant he would also award Xu Feng heavily. Such an important person was actually a noble of his empire.
How lucky was that?
Not to mention, the inventor of the substance clearly worked under Xu Feng.
As long as he ordered Xu Feng to do something that required their assistance while paying him, that was the same thing as employing them anyway.
At the very least, Xu Feng’s loyalty to humanity was proven since the incident at Bardmon City.
"How many of these substances can you bring out, Viscount Lin Feng?" Aether inquired. To poison all water sources and guarantee they wouldn’t be dissipated during the flow, a large amount of the substance was necessary.
"I would need a ton of herbs, equipment, money, and subsequent connections." Xu Feng quickly replied.
"..."
The whole Royal Court was silent because they all realized what he meant by those words.
He was blatantly extorting them in exchange for the substance.
Right before they were about to lash out, Xu Feng suddenly coughed.
"I’ve heard the Aetheria Empire had a few rival empires who had not been quite respectful to His Majesty. They are also struggling with the Colossuses’ invasion, so wouldn’t it be just right for them to chip in a bit extra to end them?" He curled his lips upward and kindly reminded the emperor of something crucial.
Why should the Aetheria Empire be the only one to foot the bill?
They could easily send the large bills to those they don’t like, but couldn’t do much to them until now.
And sure enough, Aether couldn’t suppress his smile from forming.
