Nyra freezes as the words sink in. "Fun with her tonight."
The implication is very clear in their words, and it makes pure panic flood her veins. She thrashes against the ropes, feeling blood trickle from the cuts on her wrists.
"No, get away from me! Don’t touch me!" Her voice cracks, hoarse and desperate.
Nyra tries to kick at them, but her ankles are bound too. The chair scrapes uselessly against the concrete until she realizes it’s hopeless to try and fight them.
She’s completely trapped.
One of the men laughs in a low, rough voice as he yanks the paper bag off her head. Harsh light stabs her eyes. She squeezes them shut, blinking hard, trying to force her vision to clear.
But before the blur even settles into shapes, a filthy rag is forced over her eyes and tied tightly behind her head. Darkness returns, heavier this time, along with the smell of old sweat and dust filling her nostrils.
"Please," she begs, her voice shaking. "You don’t have to do this. Just let me go-"
None of the men are even listening to her. What’s worse is, she can smell the heavy lust in their pheromones. One of the men steps behind her, while the one in front rips her shirt open, the buttons skittering across the floor.
Rough fingers shove the ruined material off her shoulders while the one at the back leans in, licking the mating mark on her shoulder.
That is the worst form of degrading insult a mated Omega can ever receive. Letting another Alpha kiss or touch your mating mark.
Nyra tries to twist harder against the ropes, feeling the man’s rough tongue drag across her mark again and again. It feels disgusting, and she can’t help the tears that stream down her face and soak the blindfold.
This is really happening. They’re going to rape her?
Her heart pounds so violently she thinks it might burst. The burning in her chest from earlier flares worse with every panicked breath. She can’t reach Adrian. The bond is still muffled and useless.
It dawns on her that she’s completely alone and defenseless.
Then her mind returns to the dream she had. Her wolf!
It seemed to be with her, helping her make the right choice in that dream. Maybe it would respond if she called out now?
She tries to call out for it, and at first it doesn’t respond. But after another desperate attempt, the voice responds loud and clear.
Don’t be scared. I’m here now. We’ll get out of this.
"How?" she screams back in her head. "How are we going to beat two Alphas? Look at me! I can’t even move!"
The wolf’s presence settles deeper, steady and solid against the chaos.
Just trust me, okay...?
Before she can question her wolf any further, she feels heat flowing through her from her chest, spreading through every vein in her body, flooding her arms with strength. Her fingers tingle, almost burning, until it feels as though she’s clutching pure fire.
"Trust me. When I say move, you move." The wolf’s voice is calm inside her.
Meanwhile, the men have been discussing among themselves, planning what to do with her. They have apparently agreed to loosen the ropes so they can have easier access to her body.
"Boss wants her conscious," she hears one of them mutter. "Tie her to the bed instead."
"Now!" her wolf orders, just as the ropes fall away.
Nyra doesn’t think, doesn’t question the wolf. She immediately gets up, her fist colliding squarely with the chest of the man in front of her.
A loud crack ricochets through the room.
His eyes widen in disbelief before his entire body is thrown backward as though he’d been hit by a speeding truck.
He slams into the concrete wall with enough force to leave a spiderweb of cracks before collapsing onto the floor with a groan.
Nyra’s eyes widen. How on earth did I manage to do that? she asks her wolf. Did all that strength really come from my hands?
"I told you, you would understand soon," her wolf whispers back. "You’ll soon know how much power you have. Now keep fighting. Just let the power you feel in your chest guide you."
Nyra doesn’t hesitate to rip the blindfold from her eyes. Her eyes sting after being covered for hours, but she ignores it as the room slowly comes into view.
An abandoned warehouse. Rusted old pipes where the leak was coming from. There is also a stained mattress shoved against one wall, probably where the men were going to tie her.
There’s also a metal door on the other side, close to where the first Alpha landed.
If she can just reach it...
The first man is still lying crumpled against the broken concrete, coughing blood, still unable to stand.
The second attacks her from behind, his face burning with rage. But somehow, she knows his every move before he even gets close.
Nyra pivots, his fist slicing through empty air. And before he can recover, her elbow drives into his ribs.
The crunching sound is so loud Nyra winces. That must’ve hurt.
"This little bitch!" the man groans, folding over in pain.
He tries to grab her arm again, but she kicks his legs out from under him and shoves him backward. His massive body crashes onto the concrete floor.
Both grown Alphas groan on the floor, looking up at her in shock. She is supposed to be a defenseless little Omega, so how...?
Nyra is still scared, but seeing the way the men are looking at her makes her feel a little more confident. She bends and grabs the torn remains of her shirt, wrapping it tightly across her chest before taking several cautious steps backward.
The first Alpha spits blood onto the floor, glaring daggers at her before forcing himself upright, his knees shaking slightly.
"What the hell are you?" he snarls. "Are you sure you’re an Omega?"
Nyra takes a fighting stance, already calculating how she can make it to the door. But before it can escalate any further, the door slams open.
All three of them turn toward the source of the noise, watching Anna stride inside wearing a twisted expression.
"What the fuck is going on here?" Anna booms, her blazing eyes sweeping across the room.
The two hired Alphas are sprawled on the floor, groaning, while Nyra stands in the center completely untouched.
"I leave for a few hours..." she hisses through clenched teeth, glaring at the groaning men, "...and you idiots couldn’t even handle one little girl?"
Anna? Somehow she isn’t shocked. But she looks completely different now. She dyed her hair black, and her stomach seems flat.
Did she abort the baby?
Nyra’s eyes widen even further when a second figure steps out from behind Anna.
Mia? Has she really been with Anna since the beginning?
After everything? After she and her friends accepted her with open arms and protected her from those bullies?
Was it all an act?
Her mind refuses to process what she’s seeing. The timid, apologetic girl from school is gone. Standing beside Anna is someone completely different, her expression cold and unreadable.
The betrayal stings harder than that herbal drink did.
Wait... that’s right, the burning in her chest has dulled enough that she can finally feel the mating bond again. It’s weak, but no longer completely blocked.
Adrian... She can reach out to him!!
Forgetting about them completely, she reaches for him with everything she has.
Please find me, she thinks, pushing her emotions toward him.
Before she can fully send them, she hears the sharp click of a gun, followed by cold metal pressing against her temple.
"You have some nerve trying to reach out to him while I’m here," Anna spits, looking angrier than ever.
Nyra stands in shock. The look in her sister’s eyes tells her she wouldn’t hesitate to put a bullet through her head.
Nyra has no choice but to stop trying to call for him, standing perfectly still with her hands raised.
"Good. Now sit." Anna motions toward the metal chair. "Don’t waste my time."
Hands trembling, Nyra slowly backs toward it and lowers herself onto the seat, never taking her eyes off the weapon.
"You’re so fucking pathetic."
"Anna..." Nyra’s voice shakes. "Please, you don’t have to do this. We’re sisters. It doesn’t have to be like this."
Anna laughs in her face. "Sisters?" she repeats. "Weren’t you the one who said you didn’t want me as your sister anymore?"
Nyra remembers that argument all too well-- but still, they are still flesh and blood.
"Well, it doesn’t matter now," Anna interrupts her thoughts. "I never thought of you as my sister in the first place."
She steps closer, studying Nyra from head to toe. "What I want to know is... how did a pathetic, supposedly wolfless girl throw two grown Alphas across a room?"
She glances at the two injured men groaning on the floor.
"I... I don’t know."
"Don’t you dare lie to me!" Anna’s gaze sharpens. "I know you and Adrian have a strange bond."
Nyra’s heart stutters. How did she find out? No one else was supposed to know. Nyra quickly masks her expression. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."
"You’re lying to my face, Nyra?" Anna’s eyes darken. "You really don’t know? Is that what you’re saying?"
"Y-yes, I swear. I-" The words are cut off as Anna drives the edge of her high heel into Nyra’s already injured stomach.
Pain explodes through her body.
It hurts so much, like something is tearing inside her stomach. She coughs loudly, clutching her stomach as she falls to the floor, but it’s apparently not enough for Anna.
She kicks her stomach again. And again.
"Talk! Tell me what you did to Adrian! Why did he pick you over me!?"
"I... don’t... know!"
"TALK!"
Nyra can barely breathe. Tears stream uncontrollably down her face. The pain in her stomach is unlike anything she has ever felt before.
The assault finally stops when Mia grabs Anna’s arm. "Anna, stop!"
Anna jerks toward her. "You feel pity for her now? Is that what this is?"
"No, look!" Mia points at the floor where Nyra is still writhing in pain.
Anna follows Mia’s finger, her mouth falls open at the sight that greets her.
